Man I glad I found this thread instead of basically copying it and restarting all the important information and recreating drama! In my situation, after many years of being away from a S13, I finally found one for $900, ALL STOCK! I drove it for about two months and then the torque converter went out...yes its an auto. Anyway after she sat in my garage from October to February I was finally able to pull the engine and transmission, clean it all up and replace the TC and a few gaskets. The engine and transmission has 209K miles on it and it kinda shows its age. Luckily for me being in a military town there are alot of 240 enthusiasts around here for parts and some guidance. Saturday I managed to pick up a working KA24DE, watched it run and didn't sound too bad...all for $250. The guy told me the rings need to be replaced. Hell I told him that I am going to strip it down piece by piece and rebuild it properly. And slowly. Im 34 with a wife 2 kids and another on the way so this has to take its time to rebuild. But the info that you all have shared will help me as well in the proper rebuild of my KA. My end result will be a KA with a turbo added. Nothing to aggressive but something I can drive daily and still have a lil fun with. I had a blast in my Silvia when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and now with a little more wisdom and cash I can do it again.
After reading other forums, I am thinking about even keeping the auto transmission in it so the wife can drive it if needed. Then again if I can find a 5 speed and can teach the wife, maybe that too can change!

Kennp, thanks for posting a good question that will benefit us all and everyone else that replied with info, thank you!
