You can put together a nice Eaton setup with 6 psi or so, netting you 400+ hp, with no internal modding.

A nice JWT ECU to keep things smooth, and you're set to go

Intercooling sold seperately

personally, if you do it, do it right.

you can drive around at the wastegates pressure and have 400 horses with normal reliability.

on the highway, straight, no traffic, you can put down 700 horses to put the competition in their place and not worry if the motor is gonna explode.

i have been compiling this plan for a while. its going into a j30.

its probably going to take me another two years. [look at the prices]

the way i see it, there can never be enough boost. it doesnt make sense to me to toss the motor in stock, and then have to pull it again for internal mods. most of the parts used for the buildup with a stock internal block would be unsuitable for the built block, and would be a waste.

i would rather take my time and get absolutely everything straight before i order the first piece.

luckily the J30 is not too popular, so i dont run to much of a risk of this being done before me.

as if you couldnt tell, im a big fan of the sleeper.

my old dsm was in the 11's, with steel wheels, and oxidized paint on the hood and roof.

What I meant was. If you were to build a completely custom 302. Why would it cost less than if you build a custom VH45DE. I mean, getting all the stuff that you mentioned custom made. About how much difference in price would/should there be?

The Vh45de has been succesfully supercharged.

Been done before. Simply no need for internal modding, the engine is fine.

Intercooling becomes mandatory at higher PSIs, but the BAD Q was pushing over 400 at 6 psi.

JWT has already designed a boosted ECU, most of the work has been done

It's not that difficult of a proposition, BAD accomplished it.

If you search through the archives, I have a HUGE thread on this issue.

It started with Thomas Knight being able to make an Eaton 112 kit for the VH.

There are also pics of the B.A.D blown Q

"So, I don't understand why it costs so much to build up a VH45DE engine. "

suppy vs. demand....there is very little suppliers out there and very little demand, hence the high prices. When I was looking for somebody to make custom headers...I got so many hang ups after they heard it was for a Q45 it was not even funny. Headers are the same way...but to find somebody who wants to work on a Q is so difficult.

There is nothing cheap about the Q.

You dont have to tell them what car/engine the stuff is going into. You just give them a description of exactly what you want, and they do it.

I have found this out a few times. Once a mechanicic/machinist finds out that you have a luxury car/sedan, they will automatically jack up the price. They assume you have alot of money.

When you got your headers made, did they have to know what vehicle that they were going into? If you designed them yourself, you could/should have given the design to them, and they would have made it. Telling them what vehicle the product is going into will usually end up in them raiseing the price.

I'm dead serious. I am guessing that they designed your headers for you.

If that was not the case, then all you would have to give them is a design of what you want. You give them the specifications of what you want, and they make it.

i should have clarified.

that parts list is for a constant 450 hp, and the ability to run 700 horses on pump gas.

even higher with good fuel. those turbos will still be within 70% efficiency at 30 psi from 4k to 7k rpm.

a street only 400 horses most likely would not be a problem for the stock block on pump gas, supercharged, with bolt ons.

another thing, with a supercharger and light boost [6-8 psi], you would not have to worry about the VTC.

by the time the motor is making boost, the intake cams would have returned to their minor overlap timing. you shouldnt have a problem with reversion.

unless you use a positive displacement charger. in that case, i would disable the VTC. the supercharger would make up the difference in torque lost by not advancing the intake cams.

We can only dream of something that simple and even then....that is some pretty far day dreaming going on.

I am not a mechanic of any kind, but I do have a great appreciation and understanding of what it takes to preform customizations.

Just like anything else...you can use all the computers/books/expertise to design something and build it, but real world testing for fitment and functionality is a whole different story.

My headers are about impossible to build a jig off of becuase of the steering column and the crazy pipe bending around it.

PMQ....if you can find a cheaper way to get some real reliabile HP then go for it and you can be sure that I will be one of the first ones in line waiting for your new found mod as the only mod left for me out there is a carbon fiber driveshaft without getting into mods such as a SC, turbo, NOS.

AGM has the only working s/c Q45 on the board. There were pics of his engine available on the board.

Thats got nothing to do with the fact that he is the first to succesfully have a daily driven boosted Q that puts out well over 400 reliable HP, and based on the pics of the car that he has sent me its a RHD Q not a President.

I see why everyone talks about it! Is that the kit that some people have been talking about??

That is one clean engine compartment. It looks like it's used for show, mostly. I've never been able to get any engine bay that clean/shiny .

When you say reliable, what do you mean? How many miles has it survied? Have there been any problems due to increased stress on the motor?

In the first picture. Is that a vacuum canister where the air box used to be.

You guys that are thinking about boosting your VH45DEs. Have you thought about what effect the decreased vacuum in the intake will do to the Vacuum assisted brakes?

Vacuum shouldn't be an issue. It'll still be above 16" Hg at idle. Unless you apply the brakes repeatedly with the throttle plate open it should be fine.

the only change to the cam timing i would make is disabling the VTC.

when you use the brakes, you usually do so with the throttle closed.

if its a concern, put a check valve on the booster line.

I think all Q's have a check valve. Don't most cars?
