hey Greg, was wondering if you can give us an update on how this motor mounts holding up and such. If possible can you take pictures to get a better idea? Thanks. JDM and I plan on doing this motor mounts but would like a good idea on what to expect. Thanks.

300 miles since installation, and these are awesome.

I have had to tighten them a couple times, as it seems the little "ridges" on the mounting surface compress a little as it heat cycles.

Notice how the top and bottom of the mount were concave, due to the meniscus of the Flexane when wet (top) and the shape of the cup (bottom).

Nonetheless, I'm super-happy with how they're working out.

I think it'd work great for whatever you wanted to make...

I'm going to try it out with a set of tension rods.

have you made exaust hangers yet?

maybe next time try sanding the washers with very course sand paper to make it very rough, give the flexane something more to cling to.>>>>A.J.

Hey just a quick thought when i was reading through here.. To avoid a concave shape, you could always use a soup can... just a thought

No, it would still be concave. That is due to the properties of the fluid, and material of the container, not the shape itself, as well as the surface tension of the liquid. If the liquid is attracted to the container, then it will try and stick to it as much as its surface tension would allow. That being said, maybe flexane and aluminum would not have that same attraction, so you may be right.

Yeah, the meniscus of the fluid creates a slight concave shape. Realistically, once they're bolted in, it's pretty irrelevant, but I trimmed and smoothed the edges of mine anyway.

This is what I found... http://www.markingpendepot.com...D=193

I've already urethaned my stock motor mounts, so I'll try that first. This is next on the list if I don't like it.

These would not be a good idea for tension rods, for the same reason that stiffer busings (whiteline, energy suspension) are not a good idea for the tension rods.

Your best bet for awesome, reliable tension rods are high misalignment spherical bearings or heim joints/rod ends.

I already ordered 2lbs for 2 sets of motor mounts. Hopefully it will work so I work on my wiring. Question for you Greg is can you inform us on how the motor mounts are right now or sometime soon? And happen to have any ideas for improvement (before I start making mine)? Thanks

I wouldn't change a thing. I snugged mine up after 24 hours and they've been perfect since.

I'm convinced this is the BEST way to go for motor mounts.

Anyone given any thought to using this stuff on the tranny mount?

I need to replace all three mounts and was thinking about how I could fab up one for underneath.

Advice/suggestions?

Should be simple. Look at the factory mount and decide what needs to be done.

So, uh, any word on tension rods? I'm curious how they could be done so that they would stay in place.. Or would you just 'cast' them right in place?

OK, at idle, it's a little rougher than the Nismo mounts were. Good thing we went overboard having this rotating assembly balanced.

Once I accelerate, it smooths right out, and feels smooth as ever. Believe it or not, the car actually feels more "solid" or "well-planted".

I'll be inspecting them after every drive for a while to ensure they're holding up well, but I did several full-throttle runs and it felt great.
I just stumbled on this thread. Simply amazing. I will offer a suggestion though. You mentioned that you had to tighten a few times because the urethane compressed in places. Why not put a large washer on the top and bottom when you are forming these. Basically Put a washer in the bottom of the cup, put the bolt through it, pour in goo, put a washer on top of goo. This should also keep the bolt centered in the cup.

I saw this when you first posted it up and I still think it's a great idea. I do have a question, though. Do you think it might be a little more civilized if you used Flexane 80 instead?

Made this motor mounts awhile back, pretty much the same way Greg made it. Ran for about 500-600 miles. Its rough at idle. I had to raise idle to 1500 to keep it somewhat smooth. Literally feels like your in the vibrator bed in a chiropractors office. Everything blurs out on the rear view mirrors and side mirrors, if your transmission mount rubber spacer is cut off, it makes even more noise. On the positive, the turns are awesome. Grips so much better. Recommend this for the drifters, but not for commutes.
