I blasted a piece of wood on the highway a week ago and it busted up my front engine shield, and supposedly the rear one is missing. I can find the rear replacement easily, but the front ones I find specify they're for RWD and not AWD vehicle. Is there really that much of a difference that the engine shield is different for RWD vs AWD?

Here is the one I found:

https://www.carparts.com/results/?Ntt=R ... global&N=0

Also, what type of fastners hold these on? Will this kit do it:

Thanks in advance!

I would get a TBW Performance shield.

If I can't find another one I suppose, but I'm not crazy for 3 times the price. It does look completely different size so maybe the one in my original post will not fit? Yours seems to be the only one that says it will fit AWD.

TBW is definitely one that will fit. They probably will have a 10% off or something for labor day.

I was looking at the wrong part. The TBW one that was suggested is about the same price as genuine. The part I was referencing goes just behind it. I guess I'll pick up the aluminum one since it will be better for the same price. I'm going to be selling the car soon so I guess the next owner will be the beneficiary :)

Fasteners are 6mm bolts with U-nuts. Get plastic/stainless ones that won't rust, cuz rusty ones will seize and destroy the other flimsy plastic shrouds that they bolt onto. Yours are likely already seized.

I still need the other shield labeled 7 in this diagram. All the ones I find are for RWD only. Can anyone tell me if they're the same for AWD?

Same. I was the one that he used to design the M56 shield. Still rockin it, although some of my mount points are gone now but that has happened to guys without his shield so it's nothing to do with TBW.

What do you mean the mount points are gone? Wondering if I'm wasting my time getting the shield at all. I search and find posts where it was discussed to remove it completely. The consensus was that is served a purpose and should be install.

I still need someone with an AWD version to tell me if the piece labeled #7 in the diagram looks like theirs. Mine is completely gone.

The bottom of your bumper has mounting points for the OEM shield. After years of upstate NY winters, salt, etc...those u nuts tend to deteriorate due to aforementioned salt, vibration, wind, etc. Whether you use the aluminum shield (which is way more convenient for oil changes) or the OEM plastic garbage, you'll eventually, years down the road, run into the same issue.

Makes sense. Thanks for your input. Can you shed some light on the other piece that I'm missing? #7 in that diagram? Again, every one I find says it's only for the base RWD M56 and not the AWD M56x. I have to believe they're the same, but want to have someone confirm before I order it.

EDIT: Sorry, misread, you mean a shield from the very back of the car.

If you look close on this pic, I think I have that shield:

I have that #7 shield on my car. Pictured here (bottom of pic):

I don't see shield #7 in your pics. I see the main shield #1 which I just ordered per your recommendation, and #9 rear shield. I don't even see where #7 would go?

No. That's wrong. Notice he made a labeling mistake (in red, at lower right corner).

Shield #1 and #7 are underneath the car. Not shield #9. Shield #9 is ABOVE the radiator, in the engine compartment seen when you open the engine hood.

Shield #1 is ahead of the front axle, under the engine. Shield #7 is just behind the front axle.
To change oil, you only remove shield #1, not the others.

In Ilya's photo with many little red circles around bolts, the center 3 bolts and the rear 4 bolts all attach to hard metal (good). All the rest (6 along front bumper, and 2 on each side) are attached to plastic via U-nuts (bad). Those stupid OEM steel U-nuts will rust, then seize & destroy the plastic pieces onto which they fasten. That's the rusting problem Ilya mentioned below.

Yeah, I think what you call #9 is actually #7 (so I was right before my edit). #9 is otherwise known as the air intake snorkle that some of us have removed (I've since added mine back after driving without it for like 50kmi).

Obviously it's off the picture, but I labeled it #9 because it looks more like that than #7. I would like to see a picture of what all of them look like mounted to the bottom of the car. The front one is easy, but I don't see where #9 and #7 even go. I've searched and searched and could not find such a diagram.

Now it's making more sense. Thanks a ton for your guys help.

However, I'm still stuck on whether #7 is the same on both RWD and AWD. #7 in my first diagram does not look anything like what I wrongy labeled #9 just behind the front axle.

I can find #7 for RWD, but all specifically say it DOES NOT fit AWD model. Yet I cannot find any other shields. I need the #7 shield for my AWD.

They are different. Here are the part numbers:
75881-1MA0A for the RWD
75881-1MD0A for the AWD

While we're on the topic, I'll add the part #s for the main piece labelled #1
75892-1MA0A for the 2WD models
75892-1MD0A for the AWD models

Lol, I like that, it's got a nice ring to it. It's gonna end up on a T-shirt.
