Hi Guys

I'm sure many on here have searched the same as i have for LSD options on there car. The main topic comes up in regard to an M45 with a confusing discussion on putting an R230 from an old 300zx tt into an M45.

I have an 05 Fuga JDM which seems to have been re branded as an 06 M35

From the RFD section in the FSM it shows an R200 with a ratio of 3.5 and 6 bolt stub axles into the open diff.

I'm looking to have 2 things confirmed for me.

1) has anybody actually had an M35 R200 diff removed from there car and had a look at it ?

2) has anybody tried an M35 stub axle into an S15 Helical LSD or R32 GTR mechanical LSD ( both with the 30 spline input )

The reason i ask this is traditionally the the Nissan 6x1 Diff inputs are 30 spline, and 3x2 or 5x1 diff inputs have been 29 spline like the older Nissan RWD platform cars, Silvia, skylines, laurels and such.

I have built many R200 VLSD, CLSD and R180 CLSD diffs for Datsun Z guys in the past so i have done a bit of this before.

I have an R32 GTR clutch lsd with 30 spline spider gears and a rebuilt clutch pack sitting on my desk in the office. My plan is to install the CLSD into the R200 housing much like i do with Silvia and skyline LSD's into old R200 longnose diffs for people.

Any Help Much appreciated, James From NewZealand

Hi James, welcome.

I've been round these parts for quite a while and you are correct in that the only discussion of anything along the lines of LSD was the 300zx swap.

No one has really every discussed this or tackled it in terms of what you're looking for...you may be the first.

I suppose its a bit of a different forum to what I am used to, the Z31 guys have to make and build machine and weld almost everything as there is no other choice.

I might look into pulling a diff input out of my own car to confirm, if the stub axle is correct for the 89 to mid 90's GTR axle stubs and the S15 Silvia Torsen LSD then those two options will be confirmed, and anybody can simply order an LSD for either of those vehicles and have it fitted to the R200 pumpkin keeping the M35 Ring and Pinion.

I will have to see when i can pull a diff input out and go from there, I will document any progress on this. We need a Decent LSD option in these cars. They are far too nice to open diffs.

Hello and welcome aboard. There was some LSD discussion when someone took the differential from an Infiniti g37S (was that a Nissan Skyline to you guys?). This might help answer your first question. g37s-diff-comparo-for-m45-pics-t464801.html

I've also considered an LSD from an infiniti q45 from 98-01 with the 4.1 VH engine. It is an R200V as well and might share a lot with the 300zx diff, as per the last time I was looking into it.

The Diff i really want to use is the R200 Helical unit from a Japanese Delivered top spec S15. I am potentially launching boats and towing horse floats in this car. From the link in that thread i can see there is 2 sizes of 6x1 flange. and i'm hoping that the G35/M35 corresponds to the same splines as Nissan used in their earlier cars.

I m hoping to get away with using my M35 diff inputs with the LSD centre

They are quite easy to swap the open to LSD, just need to measure the backlash and preload before and after, once its the same the diff should operate as OEM.

So far i have found fragments of information on hybrid Z suggesting that 350z and G35 open / Viscous LSD will swap over but nobody can give me a spline count. I have asked a guy i know to look out for a 30 spline GTR input shaft to match my diff, i can see the only option is to do a measure up on both diff inputs and post up some drawings ( I'm a CAD guy Inventor, Autocad & Revit )

i will post the links i found last night, they are on another computer.

so from searching

On Zilvia.net the consensus is that the s15 shafts are 6-bolt 30 spline and I think 31mm.
http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=50158

On Skyline forums i found this information with this discussion

"From what i have found R34 GTT and GT (NA) models have helical and open diffs respectively and stub axles will fit into the S15 diff, but are they 6 or 5 stud?? Also R32 GTR apparently have the same spline"
http://www.skyline-gt.com/forums/index. ... pic=526350

So far this is telling me
GT-T skylines would have a 5x1 axle stub 30 spline 31mm diff input
GT-R R32 skyline has a 6x1 axle stub 30 spline 31mm diff input and would fit a helical diff GTT or S15
S15 Spec R silvia has a 3x2 axle stubb 30 spline 31mm diff inout and would fit either a GTR 2 way or GTT helical

The R32 GTR uses the R200 but it's a clutch type LSD with the 6bolt output shafts on the diff (different spline count, I believe GTR 6 bolt output shafts 30 are spline vs Z32 NA are 29 spline). Z32 TT are also 30 spline but different to GTR.

This time from
http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/archive/i ... 22049.html

So its looking good that 30 spine 31mm is consistent across S15 Helical, GTT helical and 32 GTR helical. but not Z32 TT, i expect being an R230 it would be the same spline count but a bigger physical size.

and from http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/4266 ... axle-help/

"Late model (93/94) R32 GTRs came with (essentially) R33 diffs; 31 spline, 32mm."

"More research suggests that Z33 350Z side flanges are 32mm OD with 31 spline."

"Just got off the phone with my mate at a wrecking yard who yanked apart an BCNR33 (non v spec) diff for me and confirmed that they have 31 spline, 32mm splines on the side flanges. "

and some information from 350z forums
http://my350z.com/forum/engine-drivetra ... -pics.html

Nice how to install DIY
http://my350z.com/forum/engine-drivetra ... -pics.html

If anybody has an 06ish M35 up on stands, would you consider yanking a diff input counting the spines and measuring the spline diameter ?

What gear ratio are you trying to get? Do you know that the g37s/370z diffs and half shaft bolt right up for the VLSD?

I'm not trying to change ratio at all. G37 350Z diffs are harder to come by In New Zealand, I also don't like the way viscous diffs operate.

In my Z31 and 280zx i have always fitted up LSD centers into Open housings myself by following the FSM setup procedure. Thats all I'm trying to do here.

This is why I'm trying hard to find an S15 Spec R Torsen Centre, as i think it would suit the big M35's luxery nature and also not require maintenance or wear out like a clutch or Viscious LS
