LSD - Nismo or KAAZ?

Nissan dominates the drift scene - Always has, always will.

I've been researching getting a 2 way lsd for my 91 fastback for about a week straight and I was wondering which of the two 2-way lsd's were more suited to drift/auto-x? I also wondered about tomei but I haven't seen any for sale online. I have about saved up 800 to spend (even though for the lsd + extra can gear oil it's 950 for the kaaz...).

Anyway I haven't been able to ifnd the specs to see if there is any reason to pay extra for the kaaz versus the nismo. Any input would be welcome.

nope

My beater is a lumina, though I enjoy driving the 240 often in the summertime cause its a lot more enjoyable just to be driving in, if you know what I mean. ^_^ So no but I like to drive it weekly for non track/race purposes.

I only ask because a 2 way is really loud and clunky. If you are wierded out by this sound use a 1.5 you will still hear it but not as bad as a 2 way.

No I'm prepared to live with that. ::shrug:: My cars already afraidof speed bumps, may as well make it emit random noises too. But do you have any comments on the 2 different lsd's I am considering? nismo is around 750 and kaaz is 895...::shrug::

Honestly the only feedback I can give is that I've heard a lot great things about Kaaz. I can't say the same for nismo lsd. Overall an LSD is an LSD it will do the job, but I would still go with kaaz. That's just me.

"My cars already afraid of speed bumps" - lol mine too. Theres a 2 inch clearence on the front lip and the cat conv. Speed bumps are my worse enemy. I dont drive anywhere specifically in shopping centers unless I have it mapped out in my head all the isles and exits of the area.

I think the nismo one is a VLSD...the tomei is a refab Kaaz...at least thats what ive heard from reputable sources. CUSCO also makes a prity good LSD but they are a bit more pricey...like 1050 or something like that. I hear they are quieter then the KAAZ and Tomei. PM me if you wana know where to get the CUSCO

lol maybe so but I have to do it somewhere. They can deal. I know of a few places that should be low traffic enough. Or just hit up the mall parking lot on a sunday night or something. I'm sure I'll get stopped no matter what. 30 minutes of 8's? What kind of oficer *wouldn't* see what was up with that haha.

Do you have an lsd touge?

i just got the kaaz ( the day before drift day i broke it in hehehe), its noisy and does wierd things when you uturn going slow w/ gas. its really jerky.when you turn it feels like the back ids turing a little lo. its wierd.it does make a HUGE difference drifting though. you have to try to get understeer. its fun:)

i was breaking mine in at mission bay (pacific beach) during the middle of a sunny friday. big no-no. one guy was staring at me for honestly 5 minutes. then i rolled down my window to tell he is was breaking in my lsd but he left as soon as i rolled my window down. also be careful of pedestrians.

just tell the cops you are talking apart your lsd and your mechanic told you to do this so you dont have to take it to a metal shop or some bs like that.

i highley recomend the kaaz unit. its pretty solid. i went from open diff to 2 way no problem. people say the have a hard time but i didnt. i kinda suck though thats probably why:)

this was a long post

I run a few cusco products with much satisfaction, but their lsd is a bit out of my price range. I have heard that os giken makes pretty much all of them anyway save for certain settings ie breakaway torque. If that is true then I just want a good quality piece that will do the job and be reliable. I'm planning on spending about 950 on the kaaz and gear oil+shipping...that's stretching my car budget by about 150 right now, so the cusco may be a bit too pricey for me unless it has some special characteristic I don't know of that makes it stand out in front of kaaz?

The Nismo one is a 12clutch lsd i believe compared to the KAAZ which is 16..am I right? But the Nismo one is not VLSD. KAAZ is way better than the Nismo but the I heard the Nismo is more of a street type lsd.

Nismo makes 2 models

I plan on running the Nismo GT or the ATS Deftforce. Ive driven on Kaaz and Tomei and liked both, all 2-ways are good tho.

Yea i was under the impression Nismo made a 2way and a Viscous.the ATS Deftforce is a hell of an LSD only heard grand stories and reviews about it, but it seems not many people know about it (also the most expensive)I however just picked up a Kaaz since I got a great deal on it... now I only need to install it before I can make any reviews. or opinions on it.

Im getting the Nismo one... All i know is is a 12disc clutch type. I get a big fat discount too...hehehehe The only other Nismo one I can think of off the top of my head is the Nismo GT Pro lsd. And i read that Nismo stoped making the Vlsd one a few years ago...hmmm...

I have had the kaaz in my s14 for about a half a year now. Its only noisy when turning in parking lots and i like the looks i get because people think my car has a problem. Yeah a 1000 dollar problem. Install was very easy and my car is a daily driver. After having this oversteer will be your friend and rain will be your enemy.

i have a cusco rs, and i have friends who have kaaz and tomei also, and honestly 2 ways do no good for auto-x, they will cause more undesteer. 1.5 is just a bit better suited.

wow, great feedback

I talked to KAAZ USA two days ago and found out I have to cancel hicas first, before I can use any 2 way. I was wondering about that and it turned out that yes I had to cancel it.

So now I'm having to worry about that first. I don't have the money to do both at once, so we're all looking at about a month minimum before I order the lsd (college student...you know how it is...) but just cancelling hicas will probably feel great since I'm used to the rear having nearly unshakeable amounts of traction in the dry weather. I have a factory vlsd so it won't be as bad of a change going from hicas/vlsd to no hicas/2way....compared to open diff

I have a post about getting rid of hicas in the 240sx and silvia general forums with some decent links if anyone's interested in reading more about that ::shrug::

I believe a 2 way is not a good set-up for s treet driven car as it inbtroduces drift sometimes on decel when not wanted in rainy waether.I was in your postion wondering like you are when the experienced Nico guys told me.

I went ahead and got the Nismo 1.5 way (of course from a sponsor as should you) and was very happy w/ it.

The choice of Nismo over Kaaz was partially for cost as the Kaaz always seem higher even though they are reputed to be a better unit quality wise.

It came ina box saying Nismo 2 way so I was confused at first but it can be installed as a 1.5 way very simply as a bolt on.

I suspect the kaaz is the same way, but dont know for certain.

^^yes, I know of Brian and many other people who drive a 2 way for their daily drive and they are fine...

you get used to the sounds..

although I do not have a 2 way but I do have stiff suspension.... the noise and the ride was not barable in the begening... but now, I don't even notice anything...you get used to the cars squeeks and bumps and all the weird noises it makes that you never thought it would...
