LSD - Nismo or KAAZ?

Is there a way to run the KAAZ as a 1.5? Also, being that the KAAZ and the Nismo are clutch type LSD's. How often do you have to rebuild them?

if you rebuild, or have kaaz rebuild, the diff with a 1.5 cam yes it can be a 1.5. mine is a 1.5 that was origionally a 2 way. im not sure if kaaz is making 1.5's anymore for the S Chassis. i know they are special orders for the s14Non LSD. i had kaaz do my 1.5way, its a cam from a FD rx7 kaaz differential. and rebuild depends on how well you take care of it. there is no set number of miles, you just need to keep on the maintance and every so often inspect the turning torque of the differential. once the breakaway starts to get far out of spec its time to have it rebuilt.

the clutches dont designate how the diff locks, its the cam. or the "pressure ring cam" as its called. thats what takes the torque and pushes out onto the pressure ring then the pressure ring them pushes on the clutches to lock them.

edit: all their LSD's arent 2 way from the factory, and you dont have to order direct from kaaz. i got my 1.5 from a shop in phoenix.

CUSCO also makes a prity good LSD but they are a bit more pricey...like 1050 or something like that. I hear they are quieter then the KAAZ and Tomei. PM me if you wana know where to get the CUSCO
Hey i know a shop where you can get an cusco lsdit may take a while but if you want it, you'll have to wait.............special order............here's the info for the shop

Ok, hoiw about this. I just put a 300ZX, non-turbo-auto rear diff. in my '92 240SX. I want to get an KAAZ oor Nismo LSD for it, do I get it for an 300 or 240? I want to keep the rear gear of the 300 in it.

thought i'd give some input since i have the nismo LSD in my s13. It's the GT-R 1.5 way model, which is the only one i know about, its the only one in the nismo catalouge last time i checked. Its fine for drifting, drag, but i'd go with a Quaife (sp?), for auto-x since its a torsen. They don't lock up as hard from what i've heard.

The nismo unit locks the wheels together fast and hard, which is much better than open diff but feels a bit too much like a solid rear axle. It creates more understeer since the rear wheels are forced to move at the same speed so early in the corner, but thats no big deal if you have an adjustable susp.

You get both wheels spinning right from the corner exit so drifting is fine, but on the tight lower speed corners the inside tire has a little bit of tire hop/squeeling. This is the solid rear axle feeling i was talking about. Only comes up on tight low speed corners that you aren't drifting. If you want to drift them its fine.

Hence the reason i say don't get the nismo if you want to auto-x. I do auto-x, but the nismo was the cheapest, my nissan dearlership gave it to me for $800. So i just slide the rear a little in the tight stuff.

So there's my input, i think the kaaz and nismo are probably pretty similar, just the torsen ones are different. It's probably more a question of price than performance, since they are both high quality clutch type LSD's.

dude kaaz usa is down the street from me, that's what they told me... all of the lsd's they get are all 2 way. kaaz use to sell 1.5 and 2 way but now they only recieve 2 ways. if you want 1.5 you must request it.

do you plan on a 2way clutch type or helical, ive heard that clutch type can make turn in slugish and is not as good for auto cross or street driving. I prefer helical for its versitility

look torsen (helical) lsd's once you get one wheel air borne, might as well be open diff. i think you should go to some auto x events or road race events and ask some of the drivers out there. all the people i know that went with quafe or whatever dictched it after a few months of auto x'ing. they changed to the clutch type lsd's and have been satisfied ever since. torsen is good for daily driving, but if you plan on tracking it, clutch types the way to go. i'm saying this from my experiance and feed back from other avid auto x'ers and road racers.
