actually dude if u go to the camaro & f-body forums there are a lot of guys who like lt1's better than ls1'sand defend it every time someone asks them wich is better. and ive talked to guys on the street who have beaten ls1 and lt1 powered cars and said those are bad gm engines compared to older 350's 440's and 383's. im a fan of old muscle cars. and many other cars and engines so i think everyone needs to stop making themselves look like their so broadend. ls1's ARE SH/TTY engines. bad years in gm developement. their cheap engines cause their cheaply desinged and fabricated. if u buy an ls1. the only way that engine will last is if you drive like a gramma and change the oil evry week. as far as replacing rotary's with an ls1. sh/t i would replace a rotary with anything. you would have to be really well versed and have some luck to keep a rotary runnung good. top of the line engine for a 240 swap. would be 2jz-gte or rb25/26det. supra engines can do 800 - 900 horse on a stock bottom end. now thats fvckin beautiful. if i ever did put an ls1 in my 240 it would be built. but almost any built engine will prove reliable and satisfactory.

Hey *******. I've got an LS1. Look at my signature. I also run with corvette guys every other weekend up north for some 'fun' driving. Not ONE of them has blown a motor yet. LS1's are not unreliable. You are on some serious crack dude. I see supercharged LS1's and LS6's almost every week. We're still waiting for any of them to pop. As for changing oil every week?

Try once a year. Or once every 7500 miles. Yeah that's right. I check my oil once a month just to make sure she's not burning any oil and she's good to go. I beat on my C5 all day long, everyday(my gas mileage has dropped to 18mpg daily driving because of it), and the car just begs for more. I go to events with over 100 corvettes once a month. Then we take 30-40 of them and see what they can do. Haven't had one corvette die yet. We're still waiting.

I know quite a few hard driven corvettes with 100-150k miles on their LS1's already still going strong. We cracked open an LS1 with 90k on the clock, and that sucker was CLEAN. Felt like it wasn't even broken in yet. Spend sometime with the motors. These things are damn near bulletproof.

OMG, as for the LS1 vs LT1 argument...If I'm swapping a Chevy V8 into a 240, its gonna be the LS1. Its lighter and newer technology. Nothing against the LT1, but thats like saying a carb'ed V8 is better cause FI was designed during GM's bad years. WTF? Nothing wrong with carbs or the LT1, but I'm going with Chevy's choice for the last two generations of the Vette. Safe bet in my book.

Good grief guys. Theres no 'best engine' for the 240. You just pick which is right for you. And let the other guys do the same.

how is the rb or 2jz better? weighs more, sits more towards the radiator, wastes more gas, less power.

yer sayin the ls1 isnt reliable? and doesnt last a long time? you need to read up about it.

LT1's are heavier than ls1's.

many things in this thread have already been explained. but none of you "enthusiasts" can actually back up what you say.

I've owned both. I love my SR20. Not the craziest about the 13B but it's fun to drive. I also love my Ls1(Ls6 block and intake thanks to the 01' change over). I don't regret doing the SR20 swap as I learned alot mechanically, and it's a blast to drive. However, to say it's superior to an LSX motor, is completely laughable. It's in my car because it's fun. If I ever wanted serious power/performance/reliablity/etc./etc., I'd drop an LS1 in it.

It's not that I'm hating on imports. Far from it. I've owned an S14, 2x S13's, an FD, and an AE86 GT-S. I love imports. But I also love domestics too. To all the domestic haters in here. You're just as bad and ignorant, as the import haters. Making the rest of us look bad.

Friend of mine use to have the 6cyl Fiero(he's 6'3"!). He loved that little car for some reason.

He's since moved on to FC Turbo II, then to MR2 Turbo, then STI, now 2.5RS. I always laughed whenever he crawled out of the Mr2 or the Fiero considering his size.

It's not that I'm hating on imports. actually the hating was coming from import owners (not all of them as marshun, d!ck, and a few others are exeptions) towards an american engine. Far from it. no no i wasnt saying you were hating on imports, i firmly believe the lsx would be the best performance engine readily available for the 240. i've actually changed my mind from the ka-t because i like being able to have power from 800 to redline, not having to wait on the turbo. the ka, sr, ca rb, 2j, 1j, l28, fj, are all great engines, i just think that the car would be alot better off with an lsx series engine performance and reliability wise, plus its cheaper to mod if you wnat more power. i only want 350 max in my s14. thats enough power to spin the tires till my hearts content and scare my passenger.

btw, im in sd. email me at [email protected], i want a ride in the vette as i've never been privelaged enough to even sit in one. (my uncle owns one too)

Oh sorry I was just quotting you, and it wasn't directed at you in anyway. My bad bro.

I'll even let you drive her sometime. She's about as slow as a C5 corvette gets(I got stuck with the 2.73 gears the base model automatics got), but I'm sure you'll see she still has some pep. She'll be getting traded for a Z06 sometime next year when my finances are put back in place.

For an unbelievable sounding Rx-7. My buddy jdmfreak sent me the link. Your 240/RX7 etc can sound like that too.

No he's hitting 500hp out of that badboy. Probably has intake, cam, headers, basic boltons.

Trust me I'm looking at my FD right now drooling.

That car makes beautiful music and broken collar bones are annoying. I hope you heal up fast sdwyzs14.

BTW, C5's weren't known as the "ubervette" for nothing.

Wow, you guys are still going on about this. Well...Ok... here is my view:

I like the LS1 but hate GM, so the conflict goes on with me. I can appreciate the LS1, its technology (26mpg), aftermarket (low cost to maintain, low cost to upgrade).I do not believe the SR will get as many miles (being pushed to the same HP levels as the LS1). There was a period where they were having an oil burning problem (1qt every 1000 miles, depending on how much you pushed it first year - 2001), the problem has been addressed and is said to have been fixed. The T-56 is also an amazing transmission which deserves recognition. Even Ford couldn't resist using it for their late model Mustang GT's.

I still prefer the sound of my SR over the LS motor (the turbo does something for me). Although the cost is said to be the same for the LS vs. SR, I don't believe it. I think the SR swap is much cheaper, although getting the same HP out of the two makes them about the same cost, with the SR being on the loosing end of the Torque, and most likely reliability. I only assume reliability because I don't really know and just assume that 2.0L putting out 300whp will not last as long as 5.7L putting out around the same (I could be wrong, only time will tell).

Personally I have had no problem with my SR, I’ve put 20,000 really really hard miles on it, at 12-14lbs of boost. The compression is the same today as when I did the swap. I’ve ran it lean, rich, too hot, too cold, and every other torturous thing you can do to a motor, but it keeps going, no oil burning, no complaints.

The thing that can't be ignored when comparing the two is the range of usable power; with the LS1 you have power from 1000rpm-6000rpm's with most of its TQ between 1500 and 5000, SR's have it (the way mine is tuned) 3800-6800, with most of the TQ from 4000 to 5500. My point is, you don't have to be a good driver to go fast in any condition with an LS, but behind the wheel of an SR powered car, you need to be an ace driver just to keep up with the chump behind the LS powered car. ^^ 100% personal experience talking (I own an SR powered 240sx, and I have dyno's), and more than one friend with a late model (LS1, LS6, & LS7) Corvette, which I have driven and seen dyno sheets for. I guess what it boils down to is just what has already been said many times; preference. When will Nissan come out with a small block, large displacement motor that will fit in the S chassis? Even if the cost was 2x that of the SR or LS swap, I’d be all over that one. Any one know if the VQ56 will fit?

Don't forget location. I'm from socal, so... an sr would be much more of a hassle for me than an ls1. I don't drive like a grandma, but neither do I drive like a madman; however, knowing my luck, I wouldn't bet my chances on any illegal engines, especially an SR. If I were exempt from that law for some reason , it would definately be a coin flip in the dark on which to swap. The sound of the bov in a turbo makes up for any reliability issues a turboed engine might throw at me.

Anyhow, imho, for people in SoCal the LS1 is definately the obvious engine of choice.

Actually only some of the 2001 LS1 motors burned oil. And the ones that did, it was 1/2 - 1 qt of oil every 2500-5k miles depending on their rings.

My FD burns quite a bit more oil.

OMG! The silver RX7 in the link Justin posted is totally badass. If that sounds doenst make your heart skip a beat, you shouldnt call yourself a car fanatic.

The first link JEff posted is the first LS1 RX7 I ever saw. These LS1 swaps are constantly growing on me...

Whats a ballpark price for intake, cams, and headers on an LS1? Maybe $2000?!?
