Delaware has this law that a motorcyclist doesn't have to wear a helmet, but they must have one with them on their bike. I suppose they figure if your'e going to ride a motorcycle, the odds aren't in your favor anyway.MinisterofDOOM wrote:That reminds me of a thread I was going to make:
Yesterday, on the way to work (this is at night--10:30--DARK) I was passed on three seperate occasions by guys on bullet bikes. They were not wearing their helmet. Instead, it was hanging from the helmet lock on the side of the bike!
WTF!? Why not wear it? "It's uncomfortable?" So is a broken skull! Is it common to have one but just ignore it?
That's even stupider than not wearing a seatbelt to me. It's like disconnecting all your airbags before you go for a drive...
Anyway, my last traffic stop ..uhh.. I think was in 2003, early fall. I was doing 50 in a 30 on a twisty backroad (only place i ever speed now-a-days). I was coming around a bend, and I was fixated on the car because it was hesitating thru the gears so that made me angry so I drove faster. The overgrowth on the road concealed the cop car that was sitting on a little bridge. He jumped out and angrily waved me to pull over. I think once he saw I was a girl he went easy on me. And i was in my work clothes and my hair was messy. Was my first ticket so i just paid it, insurance not notified, no points because he lowered it to 40 in a 30mph.
I still drive fast on backroads, but not so fast that if something were to happen I can't stop in time (like I'll do 10-15 over). And I only do it during the daytime and in dry weather because it would be retarded to drive fast at night with all the deer we have in DE. Hell, i go under the speed limit at night because of them.
Anyway, I find that if you go out and do some legal form of racing (for me it's autoxing) it helps alleviate that need to exhibit speed on public roads and makes you a more competent driver in the long-run. Sad to see people who street race or race on the highways when there is usually a drag-strip within moderate driving distance. Or a circuit.
