Let's see, I'll just list the encounters of the past year.. I've dealt with them in-person too much this year, but only half relate to driving.

Jan 05- Talked to, and harrased, for being on property after closing. Luckily he didn't search the car...

Feb 05- 65 in 45, passing someone to get off an exit to go fishing- under cover crown vic comes flying up behind me after I'm off the exit and sitting at the stop light... got off this one for going to the 8 hour AAA driving class

June 05- 89 in 70- Father's Day- coming back from road trip... Driving '96 Volvo- Camaro cop.. Working on this one at the moment

July 05- 55 in 55, apparently this cop though that the speed limit was 65 and we were doing 10 under- which obviously meant that everyone was DUI. "You look nervous, are you okay?" - "Well we did just get pulled over for no reason, sir" - "Are you a lawyer?!".. I've given up on talking back to police. Tired of dealing with 'em..

Hmm, pulled over once for 88 in a 45 on my SV650. Kinda funny when the Deputy realised it was me. Thought he had a good ticket.

Then I got pulled over for 50 in a 35, in my Z24. Deputy didnt know I had the Z24, they all knew my truck.

Got pulled over and searched one time while cruising. It was one of those places they let you cruise. I hate cruising, but some friends of mine wanted to go. Officer said he thought he smelled something in the car that didnt belong. I told him he was wrong. He was.

Pulled over when I was 13. I was driving the M3 with my dad riding shotgun on this back road where they were building these humongous houses. Cop pulls me over but doesn't ask for liscence or anything. Just wanted to know what we were doing bck here. I was freaking out so my dad did all the talking. I pulled away and after the cop left me and my dad switched back.

That's it.

Arkansas I can never get a ticket. Unless I'm down south but anywhere up in the NE corner I'll just talk to the cop for a half before before he says s*** I need to get back to work.

My dad may not be the smartest guy when it comes to things like that. He let me drive the 3 series loaners when I was around 12.

And I'm a pretty big kid. I was probably 5'9"-5'11" at the time.

Yup. Lately we've been getting automatic transmission cars which aren't as fun. I learned to drive a stick on those loaners but we have gotten one of the new X3's. Those cars are very nice considering its an SUV.

It's even cooler when you don't wear a helmet!! seriously man, you need your bike taken away. you could seriously hurt someone doing that. its NOT cool!

edit: oh and only one ticket so far! didn't know it was a school zone :P i was still going the regular speed limit! this was like 2 weeks after i got my first car. haven't had one since!

NEVER ride without a helmet. I ALWAYS ride with full gear. Leather jacket, full face helmut, gloves and boots every time.

My worst crash was when I looped my former bike at about 80mph while riding a wheelie. I must've slid for 1/8 mile. I got up, picked up the bike and rode away. My only injury was a little rash on my right hand where my glove tore away and a bruise on my right elbow where I landed...

There's a time and a place for everything. There's risk in everything. even driving fast in cars is risky these days. That is the reason we all modify our cars, isn't it? I noticed if I;m driving fast, or aggressively in my 240, cops really watch for me and pull me over more often. I've ridden wheelies by cops before, and most of the time they appreciate the skill and control it takes to do so, and 80% of the time they flash a thumbs up.

Think about that....

That reminds me of a thread I was going to make:

Yesterday, on the way to work (this is at night--10:30--DARK) I was passed on three seperate occasions by guys on bullet bikes. They were not wearing their helmet. Instead, it was hanging from the helmet lock on the side of the bike!

WTF!? Why not wear it? "It's uncomfortable?" So is a broken skull! Is it common to have one but just ignore it?

That's even stupider than not wearing a seatbelt to me. It's like disconnecting all your airbags before you go for a drive...

Here in MA, we have mandatory helmut laws. If I travel out of state (RI or NH), the only time I don't wear my helmut is if I'm cruising the strip, in traffic, less than 10mph. I find the wind uncomfortable much above that. My eyes water, the sand hurts, etc.. I never see a point to not wearing a helmet. The helmets I wear cost approx. $750.00 and is a small price to pay for my skull...

somehow i get the feeling he didn't pick up my sarcasm there :P still man, if you're going over 3x the speed limit of a public road, you're risking hurting other people as well. just DONT DO IT! save it for the track man. i don't mod my cars so i can go fast on public roads. i seriously HATE those crotch-rocket driving ***holes on the freeway going 120+ all the time cutting through traffic, driving in between cars. i couldnt give half a damn if they die from their own stupidito, but they're putting a lot of other people in danger as well. i have a lot more respect for the "cruisers" who follow the rules of biking(act as if you were a full-size car) i rarely ever see any of them blasting past me in rush-hour traffic at 100+. save it for the track man!

Those no front plate laws are a PITA!

We have to have front plates here. But some cars don't have mounts, or a place to put a mount ('Vette, Ferraris, etc.). I've got a friend with a C5 (low end model, nothing special, but still fun) who's been pulled over-AND TICKETED-for not having a front plate dozens of times. Every time, he gets it thrown out, but every time it requires a trip to the courthouse to take care of.I've know another guy with a couple ferraris and an NSX and he has no front plates on his Testarossa or his F355. There's no way to have front plates without damaging the car. You don't go drilling holes in the frong bumper of a $200k car. He's always getting pulled over for that.

The worst one, though, is apportioned plates. My dad uses company vehicles a lot for his job. Some of them are just "universal" for dough-duty offroad middle-of-nowhere stuff, and they have apportioned plates (a tax and registration paid for more than one state--you see them on semi trailers a lot). Apportioned plates are a federal thing. You get one in the mail. But Utah is a state that requires two plates...So he spends a lot of time waiting for the cop to radio in to headquarters and make SURE he really only got one plate.

I can see where front plates COULD come in handy. But the only time I've EVER gotten a plate, I've been behind the car I needed the plate number of. To me, all they do is destroy aesthetics, and increase drag coefficients. And break off. My ford had no real mount, just two bolt holes in the bumper. For a while, I had a plastic frame to hold it, but after going through a couple, I said forget it. The plate sticks out several inches in front of the bumper (Ford's fault completely) and gets bent to the point where it's not even readable...

Something needs to be standardized. It's dumb putting up with garbage because no one knows what's what.

If I could remember all the tickets/warnings and generally being pulled over I have had. Maybe the DMV could give me a print out or something.
