i've been playing red dead redemption, and it resparked my old love for westerns. my grandma, on my mother's side, loves westerns and i spent a lot of time as a child watching them with her. so anyways, i ended up picking up "the good, the bad, and the ugly" yesterday (only watched about half before i left). 1000000x more sweet than i remember it. eastwood was such a bad a** back in the day, now he's just old.

good old "blondie". can hollywood make westerns again? i miss the "lawless" west. train raids, endless desert, sharp shooters, revolvers, horses, hog tying, dusty taverns in small towns. i want it all.

Not like the they used to. I thoroughly enjoyed 3:10 to Yuma. But it doesn't really have the same feel as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly or even something like Unforgiven which is far more recent.

STUPIDLY EPIC!!!!!!

i can't wait to watch this later. clint used to be the man (i'm sorry, gran torino was lame as f***). my boss is a huge john wayne fan, even has a replica of one of his revolvers in his office, among pictures and s***. most of the ones i've seen were mexican in origin (i can't even recall specific flicks), so my "american" movie knowledge is limited, but dammit they're sweet.

Tito, I'm glad I picked up the movie as well, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to watching it. Where'd you buy the BR from? And how much?

Also, I actually enjoyed Gran Torino. I don't think the movie was great, I just laughed hard at all the racial slurs. The acting in it was decent, but the plot and direction left a bit to be desired IMO.

"Man-With-No-Name trilogy"
A Fistfull of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Spaghetti westerns FTW.

Other remarkable westerns of note:
The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Magnificent Seven
Two Mules for Sister Sarah
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Once Upon a Time in the West
How the West was Won
The Man who Shot Liberty Valance
Cat Ballou (Jane Fonda was hawt back then)
The Professionals
Hang 'em High

In retrospect, the 60s were the golden age of the western.

Just as I prefer to listen to some music on vinyl, I prefer to watch some movies on standard-def DVD (no, I won't go back to VHS or 8mm) -- those old Westerns are some of those films. I like the grain of the stock, the over-bright white balance and the warbly audio.

i thought about that as i loaded the movie last night. i actually REALLY enjoyed what they did with it. it still looked like old film, but better. it's weird. i got stuck staring at this little squiggle at the bottom of the screen for a couple of minutes. it was probably there since it was first produced on film, and made it all the way to blu ray. then it disappeared. it made me happy.

also, nothing compares to vinyl records. flea markets are my best friend when i have an itch to listen to something GOOD. the last time i went i ended up bringing home a beatles imitation album, the hotel california album, and a few ray charles albums. i then spent the day in my old man's garage hanging out and jamming.

its not a western since it was set in australia, but the proposition was a kick-arse movie with a kinda western feel.

LOL yeah I found it and proceeded to go on a mass murder spree. if you wear it all the time you don't get good honor either though so make sure you take it off after murder spree. And you can still be wanted if you are wearing it. Also another thing you can do that will even get you a trophy is hogtie a woman and throw her on the train tracks and watch her get hit by the train lol.

hold yer horses here....

if you want a good recent western, watch Appaloosa.

That, along with Open Range are two of my all time favorites.

the beautiful part about that genre now is that it's hardly done anymore so usually if they're gonna bother with one it's gonna be good.

if someone mentions Jonah Hex, I'm gonna pistolwhip your a**.
