A lot of really good films in here, Butch & Sundance, Liberty Valance, The Shootist, Tombstone, and Open Range, which is as underrated a film as Unforgiven is overrated.

But why has no one mentioned The Wild Bunch?!?!? I can't think of any movie that fits more of the Red Dead Redemption theme than The Wild Bunch. It's a perfect "guys night in" movie with a big pot of chili, some beer and some friends. Turn up the volume and send the women folk away, there's killin' needin' done.

Other classics I haven't seen on here are The Searchers by John Ford and his Cavalry Trilogy of Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande (someone may have mentioned Rio Grande). The Magnificent Seven wasn't listed either. Even if The Magnificent Seven is the western interpretation of The Seven Samurai it still deserves to be in the running. Especially after A Fistful of Dollars was listed earlier and it's a retelling of Kurosawa's Yojimbo (and was copied again in Last Man Standing). Eh, everyone rips off Kurosawa, go watch The Hidden Fortress and tell me Lucas didn't have it in mind when he was planning out Star Wars.

And it's actually a misquote, Doc used to say "I'll be your hucklebearer" which at the time in the South meant "I'll be your pallbearer." A huckle is a handle on a casket.

Actaully, I love Dennis Quaid playing Doc Holliday in Wyatt Earp (even though it's an awful movie). Loads of great lines, "My congratualtions sir...he was a skunk of the highest order." & "Dave Rutabaugh is an ignorant scoundrel! I disapprove of his very existence. I considered ending it myself on several occasions but self-control got the better of me." And then his open confession and definition of true friendship," I know it's not always easy being my friend, but I'll be there when you need me."

How about Barbarosa with Willie Nelson and Gary Busey? Good movie IMO.

There isn't any difference in the film's grain structure when comparing blu-ray and VHS and I don't think white balance existed back then. You're just seeing a drop in "resolution" and degradation of image quality which definitely has a look.
Fair enough. I guess I should have said "I prefer to watch them un-remastered." Better?

I recently watched Seven Samurai and realized I need to have a movie night of watching both seven movies, as well as yojimbo, sanjia followed by Fistful and Few dollars. I think that would be an awesome way to spend a dozen hours or so.

Read this article, granted it's not a very large list, but it is very much on topic.

to understand why Shane is number three is to understand how cinema was at the time.

I love Shane, but it's merely an ok movie by most standards.

it was a totally different western though.

it showed depth in the characters.

I love the movie and all....but it's considered a classic because of how it's characters weren't so one dimensional.

and bonus Jack Palance.
