so i'm putting up some chain link fencing to make a kennel for the pup, and boy am i sore today. moving stacks of firewood and stones, busting up concrete off the fence posts (i got posts, top rails, and 100' of chain link used and free), and the ancient post hole digger kicked my a**. then there was the cedar pole/trunk that was originally used fro clotheslines. those lines are long gone and the trunk was just there in a corner with a couple pulleys and railroad spikes in it doing nothing. it would have been much more difficult to drop it once the kennel fencing was up, so we decided now is the time. i do have a chainsaw, but it needs some work and isn't running atm. reciprocating saw would work, but no, we went full retard. let's get the axe! well, i've never chopped anything down with an axe before. cross that off the man card checklist. no injuries, nothing got damaged, and now i got some more firewood for the pit. tonight will be cementing the posts in. i have until the 23rd to get it done.

GM made the confusing decision to reuse designations more than once. New LT4 is the factory S/C variant if the Stingray's aluminum 6.2.

OH DAMN. And a real RT/10 (non-coupe) too!

I've REALLY been lusting over third gen Viper TAs. If I was buying a sports car in the $100k realm, it's almost certainly what I'd get. I love 'Vettes, but there's something about the Viper's sledgehammerness that's just so much more sexy. I'd daily drive it all year, too. I wonder if Michelin makes Pilot Alpin PA4s in 335-30-19...

A Wild Minivan appears!
Minivan uses Blind Left Turn Across Traffic!
MinisterofDOOM uses Pilot Super Sports.
MinisterofDOOM's defense rose!
MinisterofDOOM uses Lightning Reflexes.
It's Super Effective.
Wild Minivan uses Massive Size
It's not very effective.
Ministerofdoom takes 3 damage.
MinisterofDOOM uses Insurance Claim.
Wild Minivan has fainted!

Some dope made a blind left turn against traffic right in front of me today. My epic ninja robot reflexes prevented a nasty t-bone, but I still managed to clip his rear corner. Fender is dented (aluminum...we'll see if they can work with it or have to replace it...it's pretty minor), bumper is cracked, and my headlight is scratched.

Not the funnest day ever, but it could have been a whole lot worse. I was actually driving pretty slowly due to lots of congestion in counter-traffic due to a much nastier accident across the road. Lots of cops and stopped cars and rubberneckers. So I wasn't going ast fast as the speed limit of 45 and was being extra attentive for impending stupidity.

The guy was really nice, took responsibility, and thanked me for being very calm.

notes after driving a viper.
-clutch is pretty heavy, but totally manageable.
-torque. get some, it's pretty awesome.
-steering is tight and direct.
-brakes grab immediately after thinking about touching the pedal, and they bite hard.
-the gears are very close together, i totally downshifted into 1st attempting to upshift into 3rd.
-the pedals are shifted to the left, i totally hit the brake pedal when i went to shift. i found that hovering my left foot over the clutch helped.
-v10 sounds awesome.
-my town sucks. who the hell doesn't turn your head when a snarling viper comes down the road?

That's one of the most common things I've heard about Vipers: The footwell is weird, narrow, and left. Probably thanks to the Peterbilt-grade transmission those beasts have between the front seats.

Those old Vipers are both awful and exciting. Drive them hard and you end up burning both your legs. turn right and your left leg gets singed as the dang exhaust is routed beneath the door sill. Turn left and your right leg gets singed by the hot transmission tunnel. The roof line is also low so you gotta hang back to see the traffic lights. They are dreadful street cars, but insanely fun track cars, though they can be a real handful.

That sounds like a blast. I need to take a trip to Vegas and rent one for a few hours for my bucket list.

MoD, that's just enough damage to be annoying. Good luck with the body panels. I was just talking to a customer yesterday about the thin, cheap-s*** body panels most shops get aftermarket. You might try demanding a used one from whomever you're using instead of new. I've heard they actually fit better and are much thicker metal.

Ugh. They're quoting 5 days in the shop to paint my bumper and replace a headlight. Other driver's insurance accepted liability, so no cost to me, but still 5 days with a rental. And insurance is covering "toyota corolla or similar" which is the most revolting sentence I've ever heard. Looks like I'll be spending at least $50 out of pocket to drive something I can tolerate for a week.

Oh, and I can't even find a shop that'll look at the car before October 31st. We had a tornado here a couple weeks ago and it was in an area where nobody has garages--just carports and street parking, so every body shop is overloaded for weeks.

And all Enterprise locations around me don't do "premium" cars which means no RWD.

I'm going to be the least fun customer they've ever had. I don't do FWD. Not for a whole damn week.

In unrelated rental news, I got stuck with a 2017 Expedition EL XLT ecoboost for 6 hours and 500 miles today. Full review to follow, but let's just say I was more disappointed than even my cynicism could have prepared me for.
