Well, thats pretty cool. Does it require a s*** ton of supporting mods to do that? Is it (close to) bulletproof?

I vaguely remember a thread about an FJ from back in 2005 or so where someone had dropped a valve and the piston ate it without a problem? Is that the same engine?

He told me how he recommended a particular Bridgestone summer tire to someone with a BMW 1 series because " the tread design is like an all season" ...to which I said "doesn't matter what the tread looks like when it's under 40 degrees out, they won't have the same traction characteristics" and I just got a blank look. I pretty much just got the "you're a Yankee so it makes sense you would have two sets of tires for your car."

I think people in north Texas feel as though you may as well run summer or bald tires all year because the one or two ice storms they get isn't worth investing in tires and "you're going to crash anyway" mindset. I'm running Pilot Sport A/S 3s on the Z because the weather here is really wacky. Probably one of the few states where all seasons make sense in the winter. It was 25 degrees Monday morning, but then 55 in the afternoon. Personally, I would not like to be driving to work in the morning on summer compounds when it's 25 deg out. :ohno:
I very foolishly tried to save money by running my Hankook Ventus V12s (a pretty decent tire for the price, but certainly not Michelin PS caliber) all winter a few years back . That caused me to get stuck (only time I've EVER been stuck in the snow) on a 1-lane offramp with a blind curve, blocking all traffic. Never been more embarrassed about my driving in my life. Very, very stupid decision.

The SuperSports basically turn to hockey pucks below 60 F, so they're just not even a possibility after November around here.

the focus is still rocking the factory eagle f1 summers. i just tend to be a bit more conservative with my throttle. they sometimes slip in first getting out of the driveway in the morning, but they've never left me with unease in the colder temps. if i have any concern at all, i take the exploder.

The FJ20 really perplexes me. Nissan R&Ds a motor from the ground up for racing, they punch it up to a 2.4 immediately for their rally cars only to do so right as the Quattros come out and destroy the paradigm of a RWD rally car and Nissan gives up. Then their most epic R30 race car doesn't even use the FJ20, it uses an LZ22? What was the point, Nissan? Nothing against the LZ, it's a nasty mill in its own right, basically an L4 with a twin cam head, but why do all that work and spend all that time and money designing a motor and not use it?

The FJ20 exhibits evidence of Nissan's work to build a beast. Iron block, fully counterweight crank, connecting rods thick enough to do p0rn hanging massive 3 1/2" wide pistons and the head looks like it can move enough air to feed a hurricane. with massive ports and valves actuated by direct solid shimmed cam on bucket tappets and chain-driven cams. Here is one one of my FJ heads next to one of my Euro spec CA ones for reference.

For now, I want to get it running again and replace the tired turbo with a new ball bearing one. I'm always talking big and never delivering so I'll keep it realistic this time. Add an intercooler and a full exhaust and see how much fight is left in this old warhorse's heart before I build something nasty. I've never broken an FJ, but everything has a limit. I figured who better to get advice from than the guy that built this. I hope he will school me some, he seems to understand how to squeeze the ever loving s*** out of an FJ.

Here's what's under the clamshell.

It's kind of fast and stuff.

Jesus. Thats quite a lot from small displacement- not to mention taking up little to no real estate under the hood.

I wonder if thats where Subaru got the idea for their large pistons. Theirs measure nearly 4" across.

Holy crap, I am now addicted to Euro Truck Simulator 2. It's so therapeutic. I have been shopping around for driving wheels with stickshifts so I can get a more thorough experience from it, but DAMN are they pricey, and none of the shifters seem designed for a 12-speed/split rear-end setup (6 gears max, sometimes including the spot for reverse).

I was excited for American Truck Simulator to come out in a few weeks, but now it turns out it only covers California, which is the single least "I'd love to have a truck simulator set there" state I can think of. It will also include a small bit of Nevada, which might be fun, but the obvious correct choice for American Truck sim is the the east coast and Colorado/Wyoming/Utah area, not effing California.

The FJ...always going to be a mystery as to why they went away from that one. I couldn't really figure out the need for the SR20 and RB20 or RB25. I understand the RB26 for the GTR, but why the other options? Not to mention the KA. Nissan just did some things that made no sense and really, they continue to do so.

Looks like its only one trim.

A corolla will be that less awful, though.

Ugh. The description is awful
S Plus 6MT
$21,665 starting msrp
28/37 est. mpg
Designed for the driving enthusiast.
Highlighted Features These features either add to or replace features shown on S

17-In. Alloy Wheels Pure driving fun at every corner with these 17-in. alloy wheels.
Rear Disc Brakes Rear disc brakes: performance for your drive.
Rear Spoiler Adds function, and style, for those spirited drives.

FUN FUN FUN SPIRITED ENTHUSIAST MORE FUN
Do Corollas really still come with drum brakes on the lower models??!

At any rate, at least they're offering a 6 speed. Nissan is content on giving us piles of CVT s*** to shovel through.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to plunk down TWENTY TWO GRAND for a COROLLA?! Soul-crushing! The only thing worse would be paying dealer price for a Mitsubishi.

TWENTY TWO GRAND!!!!

YOU CAN BUY ENTIRE, BRAND NEW, REAL CARS FOR THAT MUCH!

$22k gets you four-wheel discs, a spoiler, a clutch pedal, and 17 inch wheels. Did we just timewarp back to 1995?

At least the 6MT is an upgrade over the truly ancient 4AT you normally get in a Corolla.

Also, unrelated:
When I'm Emperor, I will strongly suggest that all manual transmissions use a dogleg first gear. It's just so much more sensible.

Well, time for me to be the voice of dissent again:

Deadpool was s***.

Badly written, badly paced, largely badly acted, boring, dragging, and not very funny.

Not sure what movie everyone else is watching that's supposedly so great, but it can't be the same one I saw.

My 17 year old son hated it too ... he and his girlfriend went to it last weekend.

I have not seen it ...
