I went 6 years without having a spare, well 3rd vehicle. It always seems like when i'm working on a car it's when the wife is at work. I don't ever plan on not having a spare vehicle again, because it's very nice when you need to put one vehicle in the shop, need to make parts runs, or have family in town.

Speaking of that - I really wish my mechanic would hurry up and get done with the Miata. It's been over a week now...

Good morning. Just got home from Summit Point Raceway, after doing a one day HPDE gig designed for 1st timers. Fun time, perfect weather. No camera, but I'm sure I'll see pics/vids show up on-line if anyone wants to see 'em.

Had a local celeb in attendance. For those in the DC area, Bob Ryan, NBC weatherman was a student. Nice chap. I didn't know who he was til later. Caught rides in some fun cars, including a 1st gen Viper, fairly new Carerra, R8 V10, a slant nose 930, and a brand new CTS-V. Had an awesome student with a nice S5 with flappy paddles.

For those familiar with Summit Point. I was on the small but newly expanded Jefferson Circuit. I really like the changes. They added about a half mile to it. the course now has real elevation changes with some nice off camber turns. Of course in true SP tradition, the extension already has a patch or ugly glob of sealer at the compression points....

You mean CTS V-Sport right?

420hp twin turbo V6?

I didn't think a new V was out yet.

the CTS just seems to get better and better each generation.

Agree. It's improving. I'm guessing it was the twin turbo V6. I didn't ask the owner, and it was quiet. I was in it during the braking exercises. Pretty quick car with very nice front seats, but I'm not sure I like the oversized computer screen that seems to dominate the center console.

Noticed something familiar on this motorhome I randomly parked next to last weekend:
Image
Those are early-model LS headlights, corner lights, and fog lights. Much more natural fit on the big motorhome than the 2000s Camry taillights I've seen on a few.

Morning fellas. I'm in the exotic locale of Green Bay, WI visiting a copacker. Had a pretty cool dinner last night at a place called Hinterland Brewery. It wasn't what I expected (not loud, bright, or gaudy) it was more of a fine dining place. They nailed the dishes, very good stuff!

Alrighty, off to the grind. Hope y'all had a good weekend.

Did you get a chance to see the (insert deep voice) "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field"? ;)

Morning guys. Laid up with a nasty pulled muscle or something in my shoulder/back. Couldn't sleep last night, only to wake up and learn that I can't twist or even bend over to tie my shoes.
Went to the doc, gave me muscle relaxers and percocet. Took the day off because I've never had muscle relaxers. Gotta say, they work.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Pro-Tip: I used to fly back and forth from Oki to the US with a 2 Percs and a 6er. Makes a really awful experience suck way less.

Haha. I've never understood why people like painkillers. I have (not exaggerating) bottles of percocet I've never even touched. I hate how it makes me feel.

Actually, don't do that. The affect on your liver is not good, at all. Even for a healthy liver.

If you really must, just drink more and pills less. I can't say I've ever not advocated alcohol though... ;)

Regardless what you choose, take Charcoal and Milk Thistle. They protect your liver from the damage done from the pills / booze.

I assume if the patient is a smoker, they skip the lighter fluid when consuming the charcoal... ;)

I don't particularly care for them either, but yesterday just flat out SUCKED.
The drugs did allow me to move around without pain and did loosen up the tight spasm'd muscle. Most of all, they allowed for a comfortable sleep. Aside from the ~20 minutes I feel a little stoned, they just do their job the way they're supposed to for about 5-6 hours.
I usually have meds in the medicine cabinet that I haven't touched, but not this time around. However, I do keep 1-2 in my ski coat just in case some really unfortunate injury happens while way away from home. The last time that tactic came in handy was when I broke 3 ribs after nailing a tree.
I only drank and used vicodin once. That was when I broke my hand and went out to a bar for a beer. After 1 beer, I was nearly in insta-sleep. That seemed like a pointless combination to do for recreation and I'm not sure why folks would do it.

Morning fellas.
Long weekend! More subaru stuff, some relaxing, moving a friend, loads of excitement.

What'd y'all do?

Ben and those who are mechanically inclined- mark and I made some progress on the Subaru. Anything you can weigh in on? I'm in deep and really want to get this car going again without visiting the dealer and throwing money at them.

Some quick background-
Swapped head gaskets with the engine in the car, work went off without a hitch. Went to turn the key, got nothing- no crank, no fuel pump prime, just an ERHc code for a bad abs wheel speed sensor and CAN bus communication problem. Replaced it, same condition still presents itself. Went through a lot more diagnosing without success- security reset, ecu reset, etc.

Messed with the car some more this weekend with Mark. We found that the voltage at the battery and typical sensors is 12.3-12.7, like it should be.
Moving down the line with the multi-meter we found that the ecu is only getting 9-9.3v. There is also no CEL present, which says to us that the ecu isn't getting enough power to turn on the entire system.

We can jump the battery to the starter solenoid and get the engine to fire, but since there is no fuel present it will not start.

Is it that they key may need to be recoded to the ecu/biu since the battery was disconnected for so long?

Any ideas?

Mornin' Ray!

We didn't really do a whole lot. We went to Louisville on Saturday to scope out some more areas to potentially move to, so mainly a lot of driving. Then I repainted the fender Bethany's little truck/gator this weekend from where she ran it into the 500 and the fence a while back. Kristen had to work most of the weekend, so we just hung around the house mainly.

Ray, it sounds like the ECU may have gotten fried somehow but i'm no Subaru tech by any means. I know very little about them.

Not to be a downer, but sometimes when it comes to gremlins like that it's best to just pay someone else to deal with it. It sounds like you've already sunk a ton of time into it trying to troubleshoot without any clear answer on how to determine the problem, much less get it running again. I've had those kind of issues before and they can be VERY frustrating.

Speaking of mechanics - The Miata is still in the shop. My mechanic had a health issue last week, but last I spoke with him he still hasn't found where the oil is coming from and has come back around to pulling the transmission again(which is what I assumed needed to be done). He said he's gonna pull the trans and replace the rear main seal again at this point.

Not a downer at all. I don't mind doing minor tinkering to my cars, but I'm a firm believer in having a good, honest mechanic fix problems. The trick is finding one. I guess I've been lucky to have found one years ago and both of us have stayed in the same area.

Very true. I found a mechanic here that I trust a lot and i've used him for a few years now. Honestly that's one reason I dread possibly moving - having to find another trustworthy and fair mechanic. If we just move to Louisville though, I will likely still bring my vehicles back to Lexington for him to work on because it'll only be a little over an hour away. I usually only have him do big jobs anyways or stuff I just don't have time to tear into myself.

So you're saying she drives like a woman :P
Only kidding. At the least, she isn't afraid of driving after colliding with other objects. :chuckle:

You're both right. Just dreading the dealer prices. I wish the ECU wasn't something coded to each individual chassis, 3x over. It would be awesome to just plug in another to see if that was the issue.

Goddamn! So many days of top down driving are going past you. Hopefully its just the RMS not being seated correctly and you can be on your way to curves and smiles soon.

Oh right after she wrecked it I made sure to say "You drive just like Mommy!" :chuckle:

Actually Mommy is a good driver. That kind of driving is more like her Aunt Amber...

Yeah I have barely driven the Miata at all the past two months. It's been rather annoying. I'm not even sure it'll be going to TOTD at this point unless i'm sure it's good to go by then. That's only about 3 weeks away now.

When we were driving the Pathy this weekend though I realized we've already racked up 2,000 miles on it in just under a month!

WOW! You must really be loving that truck. Good for you man, run it until its dead!

There is always a crazy aunt in the mix, I swear. We get double dose of it with a crazy uncle added to the mix. The not surprising part- they're on the same side of the family.

We've made multiple trips to Louisville in it since i've had it and we pretty much drive it everywhere right now. We probably should drive the Kia more for the sake of saving fuel, but with the flip-down DVD player in the back it makes long drives with the kid A LOT more peaceful and that's worth spending some extra cash on fuel most days.

Yeah I have a crazy aunt on my side that drives me absolutely insane most days.

Amber is my sister-in-law and while she's really not crazy, she is absolutely the worst driver i've ridden with in my entire life. She scares the living hell out of me. Just is completely oblivious when she's behind the wheel.

Afternoon gentlemen!

I finally got my truck back from the shop! Couple things still need to be attended to by the shop that they somehow missed the first time, but I'm just happy the back isn't crunched in and the front bumper isn't dented anymore.

How are you folks today?
