Bummer you guys got sick! I thought I was until I took an allergy pill. Its started early this year!

In other new, just got the WORST f*** ALIGNMENT EVER on the Miata. The car pulls HARD left. I asked for specs just slightly modified out of stock and the guy missed 2/3 of them. When I called to complain the manager told me that the car needs camber plates
Its a double wishbone. I know there isn't a TON of room for adjustment, but christ, if its WAY out of stock from the get-go the problem isn't "the factory" or "unevenly worn tires from the previous alignment" (of which the car tracked straight previously). Its your goddamned idiot of an alignment guy who "has been doing this a long time" and is obviously lazy or can't identify the type of suspension hes doing the job on.

I'm letting them fix it once and if it still blows f*** balls, I'll be getting my money back from the credit card company for not providing the service I paid for and moving on to a race shop. Which, I don't really want to do because the specs are NOT hard to hit- barely off of stock.

Any other suggestions on how to deal with this from anyone? Ben?

Mornin'/Afternoon guys.

Ray, that sucks on your alignment. I'd definitely take it somewhere else that can do it right for sure. That or buy a lifetime alignment from somewhere and maybe that way you can make them dial it in without charging a second time.

So i'm considering buying a project from a friend of mine. He needs some cash and he's got a 97 Chevy Blazer 4x4 that needs some work. We've been working on it for the past week, but can't get it to run right and he's already sunk too much money into it trying to fix it as is. I suspect that it has a blown head gasket or cracked head, considering the laundry list of stuff that's been done on it so far. I offered him $1,000 for it as it sits to help him out and finish up fixing it myself.

It could still be something easy, but the engine is very worn out. I can pick up a used motor for cheap, or rebuild it and have a decent truck for very little money. Any thoughts? Am I nuts, or would it be worth the time? The body is great on it and everything else is good. It has new tires and a ton of new suspension parts on it too.

I love the old blazers dude. Even if it needs a new head gasket, its not expensive. Just a little time consuming.

What if you don't have two valve stems? Does the edge of the tire work?

Isn't that distributor is in the "wrong place?" :gapteeth: :chuckle:

Check it over for rust- they're particularly cancerous once they start.
Otherwise, its probably a pretty easy repair and with your time invested, probably won't be that expensive. However, even in running condition it may not be worth much more than 2 grand, 3 on a good day to the right person. Unless that thing has a sweet jacked up lift to run through the mud with, then it might be worth fixing for yourself.

Dunno, but the valve stem is in the foreground of that picture, pretty clear to me, anyway...

They look like some kind of plastic forked thing with a sprung rod on the other end.

Ray, i'm not looking to buy it to turn for profit anyways. If it were anyone else, i'd probably give him $500 for it and no more. I'm doing this as more of a favor, because I know he'll help me out with something else again down the road. $1,000 isn't too bad to let go of and I can actually afford to do something with it, unlike him.

I may even do a V8 swap on it if it won't set me back too much.

No rust issues either. Body is clean and frame is clean on it surprisingly.

It's not a bad choice for a beater if it were a good running example. I know you said you're not looking at it as an investment, but you might want to crunch some numbers on what it would actually cost to fix it to be reliable before pulling the trigger. It might end up costing you more than you bargained for helping him.

This statement made me pause and re-access. I couldn't remember what year the full size Blazer became a Tahoe and the Blazer name transferred to the smaller and much more useless vehicle. Turns out it was 95.

So you're buying an old S10 Blazer with a bad motor?

I've worked on some 350's of that era. I'm pretty sure that in 1996 they went with a weird version of MPFI. It's referred to as "the spider" because it has the injectors centrally located and uses hoses and poppet valves attached to the injectors. My brother-in-law had some issues with the poppet valves getting stuck or only partially opening. I thought the system sucked...

Check This Out

I can't say I recommend this anymore.

I wasn't really thinking of a flip potential, more than I was about the insurance value if something unfortunate were to happen. You may never get your investment back. But, if you're helping out a bud who would do the same for you, then its a noble cause.

Yeah the spider injection system is absolutely horrible.

After thinking it over though, you guys are right and I think i've talked myself out of it. I can fix it and be in it less than $2,000, but it's hard to pull the trigger on when I can buy a running one for $1,500 or less.

Plus the wife asked if I really would want to build something like that. The answer is no, I really don't. I can't see any value in it aside from it just being a beater. She also told me that she'd rather me spend $3,000 on something I actually really like, rather than $1,000 on something that I don't and isn't running.

Craigslist is covered up with cool stuff for less than $3,000 and if i'm going to buy something, I want to buy something rad and that I can have fun in.

Every once in awhile I get an error that the site is down, and I've seen others complain on the Jauntaroo FB page of the same thing. But it works for me most of the time.

However, like you said, with Ray I'm sure it's operator error.

This freakin' town. Went to Wingers on wednesday. Was eyeing the Bootleg Porter on the first page of the menu. Server comes by, notices. Says "We don't sell the specialty beers here...no market for them." WTF? Bud Light or Fat Tire were the options. Easy choice, but damn. Take that stuff out of the menu if you're not really selling it!

Then...tonight...I decide I'll go see Elysium. Because Blomkamp is awesome. Check for tickets at theaters in town. OH, RIGHT. It's rated R, and theaters in town don't show R. So I get to drive half an hour to Idaho Fails and pay $10.50 to watch the movie in what would barely qualify for dollar theater status back home? I don't smegging think so.

I am so wrong for this town.
