Speaking of Jeeps, i just saw a new Cherokee this afternoon,i must say that IMO it looks a lot better than it does in the pictures i have seen.

I always wanted a nice clean Monte... with a twin turbo V8. Make it a sleeper though. Man that would be fun.

So what's everybody's plans for today?

Mine? Taking dogs and our new baby to my wife's old work to get vaccinations for the dogs and so everyone at her old work can meet the new baby. Then I'm going to pick up my other daughter from her mom.... 60 miles away. I really wish they lived closer. It sucks spending so much time on the highway bringing her back and forth.

You can also call Autozone or Advance and have them cross reference the part numbers.

I've looked for 3rd Gen Monte several times to no avail. I just love the lines of that model. I'd take a 70-72 as well, but the 78-79 would be my first choice. A single or twin turbo 5.7 would be very easy to do in that car, so much room under the hood.

I'd trade the Bimmer in a second for one with a decent interior.

I like all of the third gens and the late 4th gens. You're right about the interiors though. GM was making terrible interiors back then and I've never seen one that's in any kind of respectable shape.

Yea, I think a couple of cheap SR T25's running low boost on a "steam pipe" log manifold fed into a dual plenum intake with just some water injection with a cheap standalone (megasquirt) would make for an AWESOME toy, and wouldn't cost a lot either.

A twin setup would be sweet looking too!

Tennessee is cold. And I'm sorry about your terrible luck at getting an Avenger.

Avengers are terrible, terrible cars. New ones get Pentastar sixes, but that still doesn't make up for everything else the car does wrong.

At least it's not as ugly as a Sebring/200 though.

Valid point. The original car parked in my spot was a prius. I went to the 'select and go' area and hopped in the next most sensibly priced vehicle.

Is the Pentastar 6 any good these days?

It's fantastic. After GM's LLT/LFX family (you know, the one making 420hp in factory TT guise and putting Ford's EcoFail to pathetic shame) it's probably the best V6 in production right now. Refined, torquey, responsive, and efficient. It doesn't sound half bad from inside the car, either. The best thing about the engine, though, is the fact that Chrysler (in a stroke of unexpected genius) replaced ALL other sixes across all their brands with the Pentastar(including the ancient SOHC 3.5 liter and the anemic DOHC 2.7 that was bafflingly the base engine in the 300 and other "musclecars). Suddenly even horrid turds like the Sebring/200 gained bragging points, and cars like the Challenger and 300 got a little more muscle for lower end models. Even the Wrangler got to exchange its much-maligned 3.8 liter V6 for the excellent new 3.6.

The only Pentastar vehicle I've had a chance to drive so far was a Grand Caravan. But I liked the engine quite a lot in that car. It was paired with a pretty good transmission, too (albeit one that was far too eager to settle into high gear for the sake of economy).

I tried and tried to suck it up and go look at a Chrysler when we were looking, but a Dodge Journey is too much of a pile of junk otherwise and the Jeep Grand Cherokee was just too big and too much money. It really is an excellent engine though, but i'd still go for the LFX over the Pentastar. I also prefer the looks of my Chevy's it comes in anyways.

Agreed. If I needed a minivan, it'd be Grand Caravan all day long. For EVERYTHING ELSE today, GM has what I want. Except Midsize sedans, since the Malibu is stupid. Of course the Fusion is Ecoboost-only so there's no winning there, either. I feel really bad for anyone needing a midsize family hauler these days. You get to choose from two categories: crappy cars with great powertrains, or great cars with hippie-a** powertrains. Fail either way.

Also:
Used tires FTW. I picked up a set of four lightly-used (~900 miles) Maxxis MA-V1s for $375. Not bad for practically-new 17'' tires. I've never run a Maxxis tire before, but I figured for the price it was worth the gamble. They seem pretty sticky for an all-season, so I expect maybe 30k miles out of 'em. Maybe fewer considering the way I drive. We'll see how they get along in the rain. The tread design is pretty blocky so I'm hoping they'll be fairly competent in the snow (lack of siping means they're going to be useless on ice, though).

I drove back from Utah on them (about 220 miles) and was pretty pleased. Ride quality is pretty damn good, and they're very quiet. But they're still a performance tire and do a good job of keeping both ends stuck to the road until I tell them to do otherwise. Grip's pretty predictable, and throttle steer's nice and easy to manage.

It's nice to have the same tire front and back again. I've been running super-cheap (heavily) used tires in pairs and moving them frontward as they wear. Problem with my last combo was that the Pilot Super Sports on the back were WAY grippier than the Pilot HX MXM4s on the front. Really killed the car's balance in corners.

The Fusion is GORGEOUS and actually you can still get it with the 2.5L 4cyl, which is what i'd go for since I don't want anything to do with the Ecoboost. If I were going midsize though, it would probably be a Optima with the 2.4L 4cyl and 6spd manual or the Buick Regal.

Chrysler has come a long way and they continue to improve. Personally i'm happy to see them pop their head out. I wish Nissan would do the same.

Cool dude, not sure where I'll be when you get here, but we can figure all that out when you're closer. Might be at the Yuengling Brewery...if not there then I should be at the hotel in some state of inebriated.
