You guys are one person short of a circle jerk.

What happened to the old SS Camaro? Did you sell it?

Yeah, I sold it shortly after Kristen and I got married. She didn't want me to, but we were getting ready to buy a house and I was tired of screwing with the darn thing. The thought of a good down payment on a home sounded better than a car I had been trying to restore for 4 years.

I had sunk nearly $10k in the thing before I sold it and you could barely tell that I had done anything to it. It was a rolling catastrophe and I should've sold the darn thing to begin with, because as i've mentioned before, any Chevy motor pre-LSX I despise with a passion.

Why because you don't like easy to work on, cheap parts and reliable? I suppose I can look fwd to some bleating about the distributor being in the back :poke:

In all seriousness though, the 5.7 is an excellent motor. Gobs of torque, tons of cheap aftermarket parts and everything is available at every parts store in America.

If you weren't in love with it, then yeah, a house wasn't a bad idea. I'd guess your dad would've been happy the he could help you and Kristen with starting a life.

In other news, I got the Miata professionally tuned. Scary fast, especially at the mid-top end. The tuner said that 'timing was in the basement' and increased it by 15 degrees in some places. The turbo has a slight leak at the wastegate which makes the turbo spool linear and steady (read: kinda lazy) vs. fast and violent, on initial take off but I kinda like it that way. Either way, it doesn't affect anything when I'm already at WOT. He says theres still room for 2-3 more lbs of boost (running 8 lbs atm) with the injectors I have so that might be happening in the not to far away future. Its a VERY fun car to drive.

The distributor in the back hasn't ever bothered me. Other than plug wire + cap & rotor changes, you never really have to go back there for anything else. I've never really had an issue with following vacuum lines or wires with it in the way.

My dad would've dumped the car long before I did with all of the issues it had going on. It was in great running order when he was still alive, but it sat up for 9 years in a basement without being started or ran at all. I had great memories with that car, but when it comes down to it, it was just a car. I may get another one someday, who knows? I just don't think owning something that old is a good idea until you're older and financially comfortable or have an excess of cash to blow.

I agree with one of those statements. The parts are cheap. They're not THAT easy to work on and they're not always reliable either. I'll take a small block Ford any day of the week over a small block Chebby. Yes, one of the reasons being the distributor placement. The other being that I just don't care for them in most cases.

I never have really been a "Chevy Guy" all of my life. Every single GM product i've owned has been garbage and I have very few GM products that I would truly desire to own that is prior to the 90's. My short list would be a GNX or Grand National, Syclone or Typhoon, and 60's model Nova. Other than that, you can keep the rest. I grew out of the old muscle car obsession a long time ago anyways.

I'm not brand loyal, mostly because everyone has taken turns building a pile of crap at least once. The 350 is every bit as reliable as the 302/351 and they're really no different when it comes to working on them. Aside from the dizzy.

I'd take a LSx all day over the older iron block 5.7 design. Heck weight difference alone sells me on that.

I'd want a GN, Cutlass Supreme, Monte SS, early 70's Camaro or any year Iroc Z.

I'm not brand loyal either, but i've always had better luck with Ford compared to Chevy and have had a better experience building and maintaining them.

Move past the old carbed motors though and i'd take an LSx any day of the week over any other american V8.

If we're talking 80's/90's stuff, then i'd go for a GTA Trans Am like Ray has, except in red.

Ben, i've had several Mustangs too. Well several Fords in general. 4 Fox Body Mustangs, 2 Explorers, 3 Rangers, 1 Bronco II, 1 Mercury Grand Marquis, and then my current Ford 500.

B - I had the opportunity to pick up a beautiful limited edition (67 of 90 built I think) Black 91 GTA Convertible. It was absolutely gorgeous and only had 20k miles on it, but I couldn't cough up the $9k at the time for it sadly.

OOPH, that would've been an investment that paid off today.

You've never mentioned the Mercury before- what happened to that one? Got bored of it and sold it off? Those things are plush rides.

Heres a link to a very, very rare '89 GTA convertible, in white.

Or you could buy the original back, Brian

(same car, more pics)

Heres a beautiful Formula 350 with 9,500 miles on it.

Man, all this talk is reminding me of the car search when I was 15,16 years old. I drove a yellow T Tops '89 Formula 350 and wanted it sooooooooo freggin' bad, but my parents wouldn't let me have it. I later bought an Iroc behind their backs. Shove it, mom and dad.

Yeah I wish I could've jumped on that one, but we were in a bad position at that time due to me getting laid off from my job.

Ray, it was my first car actually. My mom made me drive it for a year before I got my first Ranger. I hated every single day in that darn thing, because I felt lame driving it around at 16. Now I would love to still have that thing and make a badass sleeper out of it!

Was pretty much identical to this one:

Looks like an '88. I had leased one of those for 3 years for my wife. big comfortble boat. I would have loved one to have one of those when I was a kid. Huge comfy bench seat + column shifter + tilt wheel + cute girl with right attitude = WIN.

Is there a photo of high-school aged Pimpmaster Brian leaned up against that hooptie?

My first car was also a boat. 1985 Cadillac Eldorado.
Looked exactly like this one, except for that pretend convertible s*** on the C pillar. Just as spotless and clean, too.
Image
It had digital everything (even climate control), a GIANT front bench seat, and a sweet rear seat, too.

This Barritz shows the color better.

They're hard to see, but the hood contours (rather, points) were fantastic. I was also a huge fan of the chrome bottom.

HAhahaha, that's awesome. I bought mine for $800 at a garage sale from some folks who's grandfather had passed away.
The car was great aside from the distributor gear stripping out leaving me stranded. Which might have been my fault because of how I drove it, or maybe because of a bad rebuild. Still unsure to this day, but wish it was still around. I sold it, not running, for $500 to some gangster.

Sadly I don't have any pictures of any of my HS era cars, not even my Monte. The pictures of my formula were lost in the divorce along with the majority of my stuff. Worth every penny to be rid of that F'n C though.

Same here. The only pics I have of my HS/early college cars are old instamatic photos.

After briefly enjoying a free 1963 Chevy II maternal hand-me-down (196ci straight 6, 3speed manual on column + AMradio + rust), and occasional use of my dad's old Ferrari, I spent $500 on an immaculate red (white roof) 1965 Corvair Monza for college. That Corvair was a real chick magnet.

For some reason my Rangers were always the biggest chick magnets I had. Hardly any of the girls were interested in my Mustangs. The Jeep CJ7 pulled a lot of chicks in the summer at least though.

Sources claimed the accumulated toppings combined with the pace of the scoop created far too much torque, causing the chip to abruptly sever in two.

My greatest chick magnet vehicle was the one that replaced my Corvair.
1966 International Harvester Travelall. Great date vehicle. Gigantic bench seat, column shifter, cavernous luggage area. Once tossed a mattress inthe back and went on a memorable date to a drive in movie in it. :dblthumb:

That one I have a few pics.

I'm not sure why, but that gave me a good laugh Joel!

I was never into the Corvair much, I did like the Alfa Romeo Spider quite a bit though. I pulled the most a** with my Monte I'd have to say. Keeping 2 liter bottles of purple and pink passion in my trunk mighty have helped a bit ;)

My Monte was EXACTLY like this, same wheels even. Kinda makes me wanna cry a little...

I think Jeeps have just the right balance of masculinity without being too intimidating, perhaps that's why they're fairly attractive to most womenfolk.
