Well now I feel like a d!ck.
One of the Bridgestones I was bitching about in Gold Digger's tire thread decided to throw a cord loose today (I was wearing them WAY down on purpose...there's no rain in sight and I don't want to buy tires until winter). I decided I shouldn't drive on it much longer. So I called around to find used tires. A local Les Scwab had some the size I was looking for. The guy said they were not very worn and quoted me $40 for one and $50 for the other. I misunderstood and thought he said $40 for one and $50 for both. My brain did not see anything odd about it...used tires are cheap. So I went to the store, forgot the name of the guy who quoted the price, and talked to someone else. The other guy asked me what I'd been quoted, and I said "$50 for both, but I'd like to see them first." Looked at them, both looked quite good, so I agreed to $50 for both.
Later the guy who quoted the price saw the paperwork and asked why they were selling them so cheap. He realized I'd misunderstood. He came over and explained it to me but said it was already written up like that so they were mine. I told him I'd take just the good one (my second Bridgestone was still in decent shape) but he said not to worry. I feel like a d!ck.
So I got two lightly-used Michelin Pilot HX MXM4s for $50. A quick Google shows they're $200+ apiece new in my size. They look like they'll handle snow okay, so I might have just found the winter tires I was waiting to buy.
As a guy who trains customer service for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, it's nice to see a company make this kind of positive impression. Doesn't happen often.

It's the process of breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones.
Not to be confused with Fracking, or hydraulic forced fracture extraction of underground petroleum deposits.
