I've installed 4 sets of Lambo doors at my shop, and let me just advise you that if your car is a daily driver, they are a complete PITA. Yeah, they look cool, and draw attention, but the door doesn't open nearly as wide as it needs to if you are heavy, and more often than not, the bottom edge of the door is in the way for you to get in smoothly.
We have done 2 Lincoln Navigators, 1 2 door Chevy Tahoe, and 1 2005 Chrysler 300M. They do what they are designed to do, and aren't a cheap kit, Around $1600 for just the kit, then the fenders have to be cut to allow room for the new hinge arm, and on a Navigator that required pretty much removing the entire nose and door, and those are a BOLT-ON kit. Not to mention the fact that you have to cut and lenthen your door wire harness. On the Tahoe and Chrysler, it was not a bolt on, we had to take an existing kit and custom fit it to our application.
The biggest problem I see with these kits, is that they are going to be in constant need of adjustment. You see, they are made of thick steel, but the points where the stops and guides are, are a metal-on-metal contact, meaning to metal surfaces are rubbing against each other, causing little bits of wear each time movement is made. Over time, this will wear out the hinge, requiring a new one. As the parts/stops/guides wear, the door will begin to drop in the rear, making it a major hassle to close the door. Also note, that most of the shocks have a 6 month warranty, but should the shock fail in that period of time, you must send the old shock back, before they will ship a new one. This leads to a 2 week downtime as the hinges cannot be used without the shock. That is IF the shocks are in stock, as 2 times when we ordered hinges, they were out of shocks. Then comes the fun part, you have to remove your fenders to get the shocks off.
If the shocks are out of warranty, one of the major vert. door companies wants $120 PER shock, and I have seen one set fail in less than 6 months.
The doors also wave like kites in the wind when they're open and in the air, I'm sure thats not too good for the hinge system.
So needless to say, yes I think they look cool, but no I wouldn't put them on my car even though I could for free, because they are too much aggrivation for a daily driver and I don't think they will be very good in the long run, and possibly hazardous.
There, hows that? I've installed them, I've used them, I've seen them on quite a few vehicles, I've given all the honest info anyone could possibly want.
