Both engines completely stock, but with the Neon one without trubo. Which engines is better built? More potential? Both are 4 cylinders and 2.4 liters.

It all depends on how much money you have to drop in the motor. Either can be fast with the right mods

^I'm sure it is. But I am saying take that motor the way it is (turbo form) and take off the turbo and run in NA. Which one is better built? More HP torque?

if it does not have the turbo, it is not an srt4 and only has about 130hp

the srt4 is totally different from all the other neons, sure the block might be the same, but everything on and in it are different.

that is why they call it the srt4 and not a neon, but to me it will always still be a neon

did you guys know that the srt4 engine is made by mitsubishi. if you were to race him with a NA setup, you will smoke him like a bat out of hell. the 130 HP can't beat 106 HP Hondas, and 106HP Hondas can't beat a 240.

If you pull off the turbo I would assume it to be worse than a stock neon because it prob. has low compression and what not since it is set up for a turbo.

umm u guys have no idea what you are talking about. first of all the regular neons have a totally different engine and im not sure if it is 1.8, 2.0, or 2.2 but that is the one with 130 horsepower. there is then the 2.4 liter engine used in the neon acr and the neon r/t which has 150 horsepower. that is the engine used on the srt4 and the pt turbo cruiser. this is als the same engine used in the 4 banger dodge stratus and the 4 banger mitsubishi galant. and comparing a hp to weight ratio i would say a 2.4 liter 150 hp neon would probably be just as quick as a 2.4 liter 155 hp 240sx.

well, looking at the dodge hand out that i got today when i went to test drive an srt4, it says nothing about the rt, it does say 130hp, but does not specify the model

so you are right, i checked some places and the neon rt has 150hp out of a 2 liter engine.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Dude most turbo cars run a lower compression than a n/a car. Thats why a 300zx TT runs 8:1. So if you were to simply remove the turbo and put a normal manifold on it it would be a POS. Without the booste to give the higher compression it is just crap. Thats my take on it. Now if we are talking about a n/a engine and not the actual turbo engine minus the turbo that would be different, but the way it is stated suggests taking a turbo engine and removing the turbo.

krazy skwerel is right though. anyways, it's kind of hard to compare since the srt comes standard with turbo...so it's tuned for the turbo and built with the turbo in mind.they're light and quick.

Quote »SRT-4's engine is a turbocharged and intercooled 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder that produces an impressive 215-horsepower and 245 lb. ft. of torque. Producing that kind of power from a 2.4-liter engine is one thing, but few could make it work day-in and day-out like SRT-4. [/quote]basically, dodge just wants a part of the aftermarket tuner scene.it's still just a 4 door neon though. get your turbo and have no worries ;)

I had the 150hp r/t engine when I had my neon. Absolute garbage.

the whole question is messed up.Unless you plan on taking off some guys turbo off his srt-4 before you race?

There isn't an srt-4 w/o a turbo.

And like krazy skwerel said it would run like crap unless you put a header and did compression work.WHY?

if you would like to compare stock form try comparing the pt cruiser n/a vs. ka24de.I'm almost positive they do not make a 2.4 n/a neons.

hope this helps

THE SRT-4 ENGINE IS NOT A MITSUBISHI MOTOR!!! WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THAT? DODGE ARE THE DUMBASSES THAT CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF A 2.4L.... YOU KNOW THE WHOLE "NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT" BULL****. MITSU MOTORS ARE 2.0 AND 2.2, DODGE TOOK THAT DESIGN AND BORED IT OUT THEN PUT CHRYSLER INTERNALS IN IT. THIS IS WHY IT IS ALREADY HAVING RELIABILITY ISSUES.

CHRYSLER IS KNOWN FOR ENGINE ISSUES. ASK ANY NEON, STRATUS, LEBARRON, SIRRUS, PRACTICALLY ANY DODGE/PLYMOUTH/CHRYSLER OWNER. INFACT LOOK AT THE WEEKLY RECALL SHEETS. THE SRT-4 WITH LESS THAN 4MONTHS OF EXISTANCE HAS AT LEAST 7 MAJOR RECALS. ONE WAS ON THE TRANSMISSION.

The new neon wieghs close to 2900lbs and the S13's weighs around 2700. I'd say the 240 has a better p-w-r. Now the S14 on the other hand....

Some of you start spouting off Sh*t as if you are some authority on the subject without doing any real research yourself.

The 2.4L in the SRT-4 and the 2.4L in the Mitsu Galant are two incredibly different engines. The 2.4 used in the SRT-4 is a rehash of the Chrysler 420a-based turbo Stratus motor that has been used in Mexico since ~1995.

The 2.4L in the Galant and new Eclipse is the 4G64 which is based off the 4G63 used in the turbo DSM/Evo. This motor in stock form (at least the 90-early 95 model years) is incredibly strong and quite reliable if taken care of.

The Neon R/T has the 2.0L 420a Chrysler motor which has 150hp and 120 torque. The same motor is used in the 95-99 Eclipse/Talon to get 140hp and 130 torque. (heavier car so they gave it more "get-up-an-go".)

The actual question is silly because why would you even bench race a turbo car without a turbo? That's like saying "YAY! I can beat a 1000hp Supra as long as they take the turbos off!". :rolleyes

Factory turbocharged cars have lower compression pistons to make a boost-friendlier CR. What would racing that be like? Let's put it this way, (in DSM terms since that is what I know best). The 90-94 2.0L non-turbo and turbo DSM have the same motor with different internals. The NT has 9.0:1 while the turbo has 7.8:1.

The NT has 135hp and the turbo has 195. If you were to simply take the turbo off the turbo motor you will have a number FAR lower than the 135hp that is created by the same motor with the non-turbo pistons. (probably in the 60-70hp range.)

So having said that, you would toast a de-turbo'd SRT-4 in a stock 240sx. But the real question is, why?

I've heard about some issues with the flywheel, but nothing else. I've been following the SRT-4 thing fairly closely and haven't heard of any major reliability issues. I'm curious to see something more on these recalls.

Whoa. I meant what engine is better built? Which one could hold the most power on stock internals?

Forget the taking off the turbo comment.

I would assume the turbo car would take more since it is built for a turbo, but then again it is dodge so who knows.

Well, to me don't care which will win.

The fact is our cars are RWD, yes " Right Wheel Drive"Whereas, SR-T is a "Handicapped Front Wheel Drive"Yes SR-T gets power, but only good for straight line compare to our 240SXs.

just my thought.

hmm rather than comparin a srt4 without a turbo to a ka24, why dont we compare the srt4 to a stock jdm nissan silvia or 180sx?

Yes they aren't good on tracks, that is why the Mopar SRT-4 came in 8th OVERALL in the One Lap of America this year:rolleyes .

omg.The SRT-4 finished 8th behind:1.MTI Z-072.Corvette Z063.Viper4.RGT5.996 Twin Turbo6.Supra Turbo7.CORVETTE ZR18.SRT-4Which isn't even in those car cars class. But managed to finish first in its class(MidPri Sed)beating out 3 wrx's,1evo,is300,and a thunder bird. not to mention finished over a diablo and audi s-4 which are in ahigher class.

pretty impresive if you ask me .http://www.onelapofamerica.com/

Ok guys, if you really wanna get technical about it, check it out. If you just up and take the turbo off the motor, you'll be lucky if the thing even runs. The fuel system and ECU is set up for a turbo car, so it will be expecting to see a LOT more air coming into the engine, and expect to get a completely different AMP and O2 reading than it will be getting. You'd have to remap the ECU for a non-boosted car, and probably change out either the fuel injectors or pump just to get it to run right. Then, like it's been said, the low CR isn't gonna produce any kind of respectable power on an N/A motor. It's really kinda hard to ask whether you'd be able to beat a turbocharged car if it didn't have it's turbo though...

I've yet to read a credible (i.e the reviewer actually drove the car in question) review that really criticized the handling. SCC mag got some good skidpad and slalom numbers out of the SRT-4 in their round-up of cars < $30K. Dodge even managed to minimize torque steer according to one of our fellow NICO members who has one.

Except for the issue with the flywheel (a part which is being redesigned), I haven't heard of any major reliability issues with this particular car.

I had a chance to ride in an SRT-4, and it's most definitely a fun car. As a car enthusiast, I'm lovin' the fact that you can get some many exciting cars for less than $30k.
