Ok well first ill say this is my first post here on the forum and am new to the community and am glad to be here. I just picked myself up a 93 240sx that the previous owner had swapped a redtop into. It made the trip from Indianapolis IN to Louisville KY no problems but the big issue right now is a bad idle that would almost seem to be the result of a misfire.

I have already tried setting timing, cleaning iac, swapping coils around to make sure all coils fire properly and checking all injectors for function and they seem to be fine. So after checking for spark and fuel and timing etc.. im open to suggestions and yes i know im going to hear use the search button etc.. but i cant really seem to find anything definitive just threads that die off without anyone posting the solutions to their problems.

There is a specific way to set timing on these... I forget what you have to unplug when you do it, but if you try do set it with it plugged in the timing doesn't take.... sorry forgot what it was... I'm sure someone here will pipe up..

You may want to check for vacuum leaks...Are you getting any ECU codes?? Try check them as well. Just some advise.

Its a 93 S13 and yup picked it up from Indy on sunday , bought it from a guy named patrick found the car on autotrader and grabbed it up nice n quick. As for codes im not getting any thrown out so it doesnt help trying to pull a code to at least start diagnosing it unfortunatly.

Is your BOV recirculated?

You need to unplug the TPS while setting electrical timing.

Try cleaning the MAF before buying a new one, and if you do have to buy one buy a Z32

To clean the MAFs use either, MAFs cleaner, electrical parts cleaner, both are available at most auto parts stores.

You are correct, to use a Z32 MAFs you will need a retune or an SAFC to adjust the signal.

You need to check your information, you cant just slap a different MAFs onto a car and expect it to run correctly, had he listened to you he might have spent hundreds of dollars uselessly. Please try not to spread misinformation.

how often is it the case that these mafs are actually salvagable by cleaning them?

If you're going to replace with a stock, just buy one for an 89-90 SOHC car. You can get them for a fair price from most salvage yards. Make sure to get the plug too. I can't remember if the plugs are identical or not.

Hey I had the same problem recently, unplug the tps and set the timing to 15 btdc, I searched ALOT to find out what it meant "second from the right" so basically its like this when your looking at it.

I hope that helps, it wont hurt to clean the maf either, and check all your plugs, for looseness, cracks etc

Close, your spaces dont show up in post, it should look like this.

Before replacing the MAFs I would recheck timing, and then do a thorough check for vacuum/boost leaks.
