I'd submit that Favre is the all-time greatest. No one can turn a game around by sheer will the way he can.

Marino is certainly up there, but so is Montana, Elway, Young, and all the old-schoolers: Starr, Namath, Unitas....

Joe Namath is the most overrated quarterback ever. He was never really that great. All he did, which, yes is a great accomplishment, was win a superbowl that he said he would. His numbers compared to Starr, Unitas, Marino, Montana, Bradshaw and dozens of others are not even hall-of-fame worthy. He just got a name for being the guy who wore the fur coat and won a super bowl that he wasn't supposed to. OVER RATED, OVER RATED.

I think that Favre is the best ever. He is the guttiest QB ever. He surrounded by a usually average group of players that he turns into great players and wins games. Plus, he is the most exciting to watch besides Mike Vick.

my favorite ncaa:1.uf2.miami3.fsu4.georgia

My favorite nfl1.jaguars2.Bucs3.dolphins4.falcons

college:

last year the buckeyes had alot of luck. But,sometimes that is what it takes. If I had to pick a state champion this early I would say miami or georgia. But,still too early.I like where florida is on the polls and alot of people have already have counted them out(i like that).they will surprise someone though.the gators toughest game will be their second (at miami).who knows what a win will do there ,but loss will surely drop them out of the top 25(if so no biggie,we will be back).

nfl:who knows. everybody looks good right now.pats,phins,bucs,falcons,.

i think the falcons have good chance with P.price but i think the rookie WR's Jon Olinger,LaTarence Dunbar will decide the arial assault. And if vick gets hurt(god forbid)in the regular season d.johnson has proven himself a reliable back-up, but if post season rolls around and vick is injured hang it up.

I think dolphins will be good.jay will miss games!back spasms have already began.unless greise proves me wrong miami is still lacking a Qb.I would like to argue the ray lewis, brian urlacher*,l.arrington best linebacker comments with one word "JUNIOR"!I still think ricky has it and will prove it season after season.

Bucs:yup look like the bucs could win another.except i've thought they would win one every year since 96.we will see.the real debate this season is after this season who do you keep?mcfarlan or sapp?the heat is on both and on alot of the bucs as after this season alot of contracts are up and alot of qaulity free agents are coming available after this year.

the jags or the buc should pick up that guy that is holding out in philly.I forget his name.

Who do you guys have on Vick vs McNabb. I of course, am going to be the lone McNabb supporter. When healthy the guys stats far and away smoke everyone's except some of rich gannons passing stats. Both guys have cannons for arms(advantage Mcnabb). Both guys are FAST (advantage Vick). Both are smart and can improvise at any given situation (push). And have capable teams around them (BIG ADVANTATGE McNabb).

I think that they will be pretty good, but I am not too sure how their defense will fare. The offense should be killer as long as the line can hold their own.

As far as QB's? Marino was great, no question, but not the best. I'd pick Terry Bradshaw and Johnny Unitas long before Marino. Of the active players, I'd probably pick Favre before picking Marino. Sorry.

no, the best quarterback ever was definitely Elvis Grbac.

no question at all.

Who else can have a 3:2 int ratio and cry at the end of every game?

None other than the Grbacinator.Who could take nearly the same team that had won the Super Bowl the previous year and lose the game for them by throwing 2 INTs in the redzone?

The Grbacinator!

I Forgot about Elway. King of the comebacks, Montana too, and even Staubach (despite being a Cowboy). Danny-boy is Definately Hall of fame material, but not greatest of all time

allright, i'll jump in! instantrice, you're right, at your level the next step is HUGE. i was talking more about the recreation level. being very competive, i can live with missing a 20 foot jumper, but it S*CKS when you chunk a chip shot to the green or miss a simple 5 foot putt. what i meant was, i'm pretty athletic, played competitive football, hockey, basketball and tennis and could still jump out there and look respectable, but golf can make me look like i just lost 50 IQ points!!!!!! who knows???

Ok, the Marino issue.all the "other" quarterbacks listed had a great running game and a great defense. quarterbacks are the ONLY position in football where a ring has weight in determining how good they were. quarterbacks don't play defense!!!!! marino would lose games after throwing 4 touchdown passes. he NEVER had a defense that could protect a lead. the other MAJOR point to consider, when matched against all the other great quarterbacks, is he NEVER had ANY type of running game to supplement the offense of the dolphins. the marino offense was never balanced. defenses could focus on one thing,,,the passing game. they never had to bring their backs to the line. they were, basically, always in the nickel package to stop the pass. the whole preperation was to stop the pass,,,,,and marino shattered every passing record.

even if you don't like him, this fact is huge. that's like a jorden with only one move, or a pitcher with only a curve ball. you know how to prepare but they still beat you with what you know is coming!what would have happened if marino had the 49'ers defense or a franco harris/dorsett/terrel davis in the backfield????? remember, doug williams/jim plunkett/ what's his name from the ravens, are super bowl quarterbacks-----better than marino???

would anyone expect favre or montana to put up his numbers without a running game or a defense, they haven't and they HAD a running game and a defense!!!!! all in fun guys,,,,arguing about sports is the best,,,doesn't change the world or anything,,what the hell!!!!! jeff

In all seriousness, I love both the Dolphins and Eagles. And I do truly love Randall Cunningham. But I do think Dan Marino is proably the best pure traditional quarterback of all time (in company with Joe Montanna, John Elway) - most DEFINITELY the best pocket passer of all time. His career numbers bear that out. AND his 1984 season was also without a doubt the best season a quarterback ever had. 48 touchdowns (NFL record), 5084 yards (avg 320 yds/gm - NFL record).

Moreover, all time he has over 10,000 more yards than number 2 on the all time list. and over 120 more touchdowns.

But Its time to flex some pre-season domination muscle! The eagles rolled the Saints like a drunk ******. I know its the pre-season and all but our 1st string vs their 1st string Dominated them. Mcnabb 5/5 w/ a TD to top off the drive.

Though so much is always made of a ring - that Marino never won a ring takes nothing away from his stature as a quarterback. The numerous records he holds are individual - a ring is something that takes 22 men to earn.

I agree, the ring is the difinitive mark that a QB must have to normally be considered a "GREAT", but we keep talking about Marino and he doesn't have a ring. He has to be considered one of the "GREAT" QB's. And yes football is a team sport. I still argue that Favre is the best quarterback.

Favre does not and never has had the best arm, the best speed or the best anything. However, I do feel that he has the biggest heart. He was never surrounded by great players, with a few exceptions, however he continued to win. He is similar to Marino, but has made it to 2 Super Bowls and has won one in 1997. He makes the players around him better. Marino makes some of the players around him better, but Favre inspires the entire team to play to his level. A quarterback that can lead the entire team and make everyone better, even the defensive players, has my vote for best of all-time.

Arguablyt though, Marino is perhaps the best pure passer the game has ever seen.

are you kidding?? maybe your thinking of the favre now. His arm was/still kinda is a rocket launcher. he's never had the great speed but he was a mobile quarterback before the McNabbs and Vicks of the world came of age. On top of that Favre is made of Steel. He was the ultimate steal from atlanta. They got him for 2 pennies and a paint chip. They guy hasnt missed a game since.

I Think it has to come down between marino and elway. Marino has most of the records, elway has the rest. Elway has a ring, marino doesnt. Elways the king nay, GOD of 4th quarter comebacks, Marino controls the game all the way through.

no question, favre, incredible quarterback, gutsy, plays with pain, and yes, rings. let's remember though, took him a while in the league to figure out how to be a top notch quarterback........ marino steps in and tears defenses apart from the start. not mobile like favre, i.e. yet another thing defenses can zero in on but can't stop,,,,,,,,no running game----STOP THE PASS!!! no defense could. don't bring the whole team into the quarterback position. a quarterback controls the offense and puts points on the board, nobody, NOBODY, did that like marino. favre will never touch any of his records. look at the defense that favre was playing with and compare any of the years with what marino had. marino had no running game his entire career!! NONE. look at the running game that favre had. having a DECENT running game takes huge pressure off a quarterback (forces the defense to guess, they never had to guess with marino, they knew he'd throw and they still couldn't touch him). just saying that you can't argue with the numbers. no one will ever say a running back, that breaks every rushing record, shouldn't be considered the best ever because he doesn't have a ring! maybe someday, someone, will touch marino's records,,,but there isn't anyone now that can. just to put perspective on things...48 touchdown passes in a season,,,,, that's like three every game.....you're running back takes two TD's in a game and you win,,,,,you've got to throw at least five the next game to stay on track,,,,and don't get hurt and miss a game (two horrible knee's and still tough----still remember the monday night game where bruce smith hit marino after he threw the pass and knocked the wind out of him, but still grabed smith's facemask and pulled him down to try and yell, for what marino thought, was a late hit). ALRIGHT,,,,,SORRY, SOULD STOP BEATING THE DRUM FOR MARINO!!! MAYBE WE SHOULD DEBATE THE BEST PUNTER OF ALL TIME!!!LOL jeff

The best punter? That is a tough one. Ummm, I can't even remember a single punters name. Dang, there has to be a best punter, but who????

Ok, you guys are starting to win me over on Marino. 48 td's in a season is ... , well, I can't even think of something to say. I am speechless.
