Well I think a lot of cars "can" be fast if you mod it right.

this is still going?BS gm cars a governed at99 or 107. we had a granprix rentacar and it didnt complain goin 119 and up.just becouse you havent been beat by a fast cav or any other car, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. modded right, cavalier can spank a stock sr no prob. cobalts are decently quick but honestly, for a SC car, id expect faster. the new turbo one should be better.

to sum up the top speed of the cavalier i am sure that the 01-05 top speed is 106-107 stock. the only way i was able to go any faster was to disconnect the speed sensor from the transmission which did no show anything on the speedometer.....so i had a friend follow me on the highway to judge top speed and i was able to hit around 124 mph. but like i previously said that the cavailer does not have the following or tuning potential that my 240 has...i've hit 120 mph in the 240 first day i had it stock......so again....

i love my 240sx

The top speed of all 3rd gen J-Bodies is 108 mph. Cutting the VSS wire is one way to disable this but it will also stop your speedometer from functioning as well so you'll have no clue how fast you're even going. Another way is with tuning software like HPT. This is what i used on my old turbo Z24. I have no clue what my top end would have been since the speedometer can't read that high but with spinning the motor 7,600 rpm i would hit 118 mph in 3rd gear. I miss that car....

Any car can be fast with enough dedication and money.

So true but when they are basically stock with a cold air right below the hood and an exhaust, then they arent shvt.

Lulz. How about an Integra Type R? Of course the 240 will run circles around it just because it's a FWD and nothing more, right?

Idiot.

you have a point 4lug. but if you look at any time attack event the fwd cars are usually alot slower then the rwd and awd cars.

EDIT: didnt realize he was comparing a 240 to fwd. alot of fwd cars could kill stock 240sx.

On the topic o f the thread here.

Genetric racing used was a company in the late 1990's early 00's who would take the 2.2 cav and sunfires and do some wild stuff to them. They offered 3 stages of heads, bottom end kits, rebuild services, ect.

Anyhow they were able to get their 97 Sunfire 2.2 to break into the 7 second mark in the 1/4 mile. (massive boost of coarse).

But the market for these cars was not there and they went under.
