Ok, so i told you guys they were coming... I'm always trying to do things a little different...everyone gets headrest monitors, but I wanted something else.... I ran the power/ground/video wires myself during my Avic D3 install and had a professional installer flush mount these bad boys for only $200By doing everything myself, my install prices went from $1400 --> $200... you gotta love it... anyway, just thought I'd post a few pics!

Awkward for who, for you? ... maybe, for my little daughter, not at all... I got this idea when trying to figure out a way to keep my daughter entertained and still give my ride the unique look I craved.

Best thing is, because of my black interior and tint, it's 100% hidden when the monitors are off, even in the daytime! couldn't say the same for the headrest monitors on my last car!

Looks good, and very unique. That's the first time I've seen a screen mounted on the side. For a child, that's a good place to have them. At least she won't bother you when you're driving

Definitely unique. I just can't imagine who would be watching those small monitors on the sides... The backseat is small as it is, and turning to watch seems rather uncomfortable.

Form and function do not necessarily always go hand in hand. This will be my final explanation (as if I needed to give one) and then you guys can react, comment, do whatever you will, doesn't matter to me one way or another if anyone likes, understands, approves, or watches them for that matter!

I originally came up with the idea for the reason I stated above...wasn't really concerned with a 6' 200lb man watching Tv in the back of my car. But after getting it done, and looking at it at night, I absolutely love them. They look absolutely sick at night... I did have one person ride in the back just to try them out, and he pretty much just leaned against one side, and watched the opposite TV, like a lounge chair. Again, not what i had intended, but whatever, he was confortable. The point is, I wanted it this way as opposed to the headrest thing because its unique.

F.Y.I. ...I posted the thread because a couple of folks asked me to, it was NOT to get anyone's approval, nod, ok, or suggestion. I don't take suggestions, I'm not on the forum to ask other folks what I should do, or get their opinions on what to do with my wide. I post informative threads, walk throughs, etc., ask questions when I'm curious, and respond with helpful tips when folks ask me a question. But as far as whether or not anyone approves of what I do with my car, well only my wife has that much clout. In my last car, I had four Tv's, a navigation system, a $2,000.00 stereo system, reupholstered seats, carpet, and headliner, interior dash kit, lamborghini doors, intake, header, cat back exhaust, 18" chrome rims... and that was all on a 1995 Nissan 200sx... folks thought I was crazy, but it's what I wanted to do, and when I was done with that toy, I sold it for 5 x kelly blue book and used the downpayment for my A/C. Didn't listen to anyone then, and I'm sure not gonna start now...c.o.l.o.u.r.s....

As long as you like it, I have nothing against it. I am a proud supporter of the idea of "to each his own." Then again, I am also a realist and support practicality.

When I installed my D3, I knew I wanted to do this setup, so I ran power/ground cables spliced from the stereo power ground cables to the video signal amplifier which I have mounted under the passenger seat. From there, I spliced power/ground cables and ran those underneath the seat to the door sill, then into the rear quarter panel. For the driver side monitor, I simply ran the power/ground cables from underneath the passenger seat( attached to the signal amplifier), underneath the center console, underneath the driver seat, and into the door sill on the driver's side. Cable ties and black electrical tape was used to keep the wires together and made for a very clean install. You can't even tell that they are there.

1st. remove the vinyl door seal. Then, take the power/ground wires and run them into the door seal underneath the kick plate. Those unsnap very easily. As far as the quarter panels go, they pop out.. well actually, they pull towards you, and then out. So if you are in the door, facing the back sat, they pull towards you and then out. Be carfful doing this as they panel is kept in blace by small clips, if you're too aggresive you could break the clips!

Thanks MAD, there's always haters, but hey, you know what we do with those... in any case, did you finish your install, steering wheel remote, motion bypass, etc? Hope that stuff finally got fixed... it took me a few years to get as knowledgable about installs as I am now, I can pretty much do almost any install, it just took time to learn. I learned by befriending the guys at Best buy, and other local install shops, and watching them work, and having them explain stuff to me. real talk, once you see it done, you realize that "it aint brain surgery"... but it does take practice! If you can, ask those guys if you can watch them work next time, in the future on this or another car, you can save so much money doing the install yourself. As I said, on this project, I've saved about $1,200 dollars on install prices alone!

Yeah man, ignore the haters, keep it moving man, keep it moving...lol.

Nope. Motion bypass still not working and haven't been called back re the steering wheel PAC-SWIZZIE. I'm done with dude. I got one of those remote control joints, so that helps. I need to find a new installer. So, like I said, if you decide to come through this summer, we gotta get up and have you look at this, maybe do a Coupe Meet or something in the area.

The fit is not as snug as yours. It's off around the sides, about .25 inches. It's enough to piss me off. I'm going to fix this if I have to melt something up in there...lol.

Your Metra is real snug...that's what I want.

Sounds like I'm going to have to learn how to do this ish.

Knowledge is power and I am powerless when it comes to this bro, but I'm planning to start lifting some weights soon...lol.

No prob, man, I just found out that I'll actually be in B-more sometime in January... I don't know exacly when, but I have some business there that month... I'll let you know ahead of time! Meanwhile, what I would do if I were you is purchase another metra kit from honestDee, I'll do the Pac-SWI install and motion bypass for you when I get there. If you can't wait that long, you can always find another installer, but most likely, because they didn't do the original install, they're gonna charge you by the hour to trouble shoot, and fix the problem and complete the install , probably looking at a min. of 200.00!

Cool. That works for me. I'll be off the last week of Dec and first of Jan, but I will work with your schedule bro.

I already have a second Metra at the crib. It took so long for our boy to order the second one after he cracked the first, I went on and ordered another one. I would need to get another PAC-SWI. I'm not sure if he left it in there somewhere or has it with him and I prefer not to ask about it.

I'll willing to pay whatever is necessary to put this behind me, have streering wheel controls, motion bypass, and a Metra kit that fits snug...priceless bro.

lol... that's comedy...I'm doing this for MBC because...

1. I went to Medical school in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins, so I'm back there often for business

and

2. I recommended this spot to him, and feel awful that their service has gotten so God awful! Doing the install myself for free is the least I could do since I'll already be in town...

besides, I actually really like doing installs... real talk... God forbid , if I ever lose my license to practice medicine... I'd open an install shop and do this for the rest of my life!
