I have almost always plugged my phone in, because I like to keep my phone charged, but there are times where I need to stream and, to be completely honest, I don’t like the fact that these cars and phones cost as much as they do and don’t work.
I am pissed with both Apple and Infiniti. I know technology moves fast with developing new things, but it shouldn't be so hard to figure how to make things work with some sort of compatibility mode. One will blame the other as the culprit and at the end me the consumer is screwed.
This has been my biggest negative with the ownership of this car.
Done ranting.

I'd put the onus on Infiniti in this case. Apple needs to keep up to date with other BT devices and therefore needs to update BT firmware/hardware in each version of their phone. Infiniti, however, hardware aside, doesn't even offer a way to update BT firmware (software side) to at least alleviate some of the issue. Basically, whatever is loaded at the factory (6+ YEARS ago!) is what you get. It's no wonder phones released 6 years later are finicky.

The problem with fully blaming Infiniti is that Apple is chose to use the intel chip, which is known to be inferior to the Qualcomm, in some of their phones which led to some of these issues. The Bluetooth and/or modem HW/SW/FW they use should be fully backward compatible, not picky.

The iPhone 8 and X are both getting two possible chips as well, a new Qualcomm and a new Intel so they may or may not have the same issues. I know I will be looking for the Qualcomm version when I am ready to upgrade in a few months.

For reference:

iPhone 7 / 7+
Quallcomm - A1660/A1661
Intel - A1778/A1784

iPhone 8 / 8+
New Quallcomm - A1863/A1864
New Intel - A1905/A1897

iPhone X
New Qualcomm - A1865
New Intel - A1901

I was hoping someone with a Qualcomm iPhone 7 would chime in with results one way of the other. This is bad news. Hopefully one of both versions of the 8/X phones work with our cars. :frown:

I can confirm that the new iPhone 8+ (Verizon) still doesn't work with our cars. Well, that is for the Bluetooth streaming. Calls work with the Bluetooth but there are initial connectivity hiccups sometimes.
Today I plugged into the USB port and used the phone as an iPod and didn't have any issues. I actually had song information to appear on the dash screen, but the buttonss did lag a bit when changing tracks. Btw..... This was using the Spotify app and a generic charge cable.

To give my experience, I have a 2011 m37 running an iPhone 6 on ios 9.3.3 with Google Play.
Bluetooth works just fine for both calls and music. I'm able to skip tracks with the steering wheel controls though music album art and song info only shows for the initial song; any following song doesn't update the album art or track info on the screen.

Because of this, I use a hardwired connection to USB so it shows album art and track information correctly with wheel controls. I intend to update to an iPhone X soon and will be testing my gf's iPhone 7 on ios 11 to see if it has any issues you all have listed.

Cyanide7730, I've never seen bluetooth display album art. Curious to see that.

I figured out what was causing my hardwired connection to act weird. The iPhone needs at least one music file on it to be recognized properly by the car. I thought it was an iOS update, but it was actually removing all the music from the phone at the time of the iOS update.

What passes me off is the phone called and steamed
almost perfectly, not bad considering the issues I had before. Now it's a total turd. I'm reinstalling it tomorrow and go from there.

I have recently just switched from iphone 6 to iphone 7 and have the latest updates on the phone. Calls work but music lags for about about 10 to 15 minutes before it starts playing normal. Also no info on the songs or album and the controls to forward songs do not work. It is very frustrating and ready to scrap the whole sound system to make it work.

Mine doesn't even show the song or anything, after my doc appt it didn't even register a Bluetooth signal. Apple is supposed to have a new patch coming soon is what I hear but none of the others work so I'm not holding my breath. Even other things don't work the same as before. They really messed up.

That’s what I get for not paying closer attention to this Thread. Picked up a new iPhone 8 (Verizon) a few days back and the phone is connected, however no Bluetooth streaming. Had an old 5c before and never had any problems streaming.
Hard to believe you purchase a phone that’s supposed to be an upgrade & have this issue.
Hopefully this will be corrected with a software update.

I've given up on bluetooth music streaming. I works 1 out of 10 tries.

I've had the same issue with my iPhone 7plus but as of last week I upgraded to the new iPhone X and it works flawless. Steering controls works fine with no skips in the streaming. I know it costs a lot but it was well worth it for me.

So I got another patch from Apple. I don't know if it'll help with any issues in having but I deleted the old and reinstalled it this morning.

I let you all know

I decided to give BT another shot for the first time in a long time after installing 11.1.1. Worked good for 1.5 days. About 5 separate trips before it started to hiccup. Still much longer then ever before with this iPhone 7. I will keep using and see how it does.

I have an iPhone 6 used as an iPod that is connected through usb. Took it in to the dealership in Richmond because it was taking 6 seconds to switch songs. They contacted infiniti about it. The answer they gave me was that with updates the phone was too fast for radio. I have contacted infiniti Corp. for an answer that makes sense.

Hopefully as cars get 'smarter' we'll be able to update the BT firmware on the car. We're basically using 2011 or whatever supplied BT firmware from Infiniti to connect our 2017+ phones. Bound to have issues. Dealers need to offer upgrade services of such firmware for like $20 (literally plug in a cable and update) or something...I'd say free but you know they'll want to monetize it, jerks.

I miss the days of having a car with an aftermarket radio. I had a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 (double din NAV) in my '99 Maxima that I upgraded to an AVIC-Z3 with just some simple steps on my computer.

my iphone 7 plus and now X on Att absolutely blows with this car. both my bluetooth audio streaming and handsfree calling work less than 25% of the time, constantly cutting out and skipping. I asked the dealer and they said its a known issue. I have to resort to USB now for music which works but is a pain and forget about handsfree calling.

I pretty much just made a habit of plugging in the phone to listen to music. Only start thinking about streaming and get upset when:
1. this thread pops back up, and
2. I get a newer loaner vehicle (have the QX60 now) and realize how seamless the BT streaming is....

All was well with my iPhone 7 until the latest update. Now, audio on my calls drops out like it did before. VERY disappointed. I'm going to have to keep a bluetooth headset in the car for calls now. It's that bad. 100% of my calls have audio issues.
