I just got this info back from import trans performance. They have a kit specifically for the R34R03A.

The valve body mod is $495 and the solenoid assembly is $189.

I usually do a package at $625, which is a savings of $59.

As far as the valve body modification, we are able to reduce shift times byaround 500%, as a minimum setting. If even firmer shift are desired, at thecustomer's request, we are able to go beyond that.

In addition, lube flow through the converter, cooler and transmission lubecircuit is increased 2-3 fold.

The torque handling capacity of the clutches and band is increased by over50% at the minimum firmness setting.

You can expect the car to feel like a whole different animal with a properlymodified valve body. You will notice firm, crisp, performance shifts thatwill greatly increase the durability of the transmission.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like any other questionsanswered.

So basiclaly this mod will give us something nearly as good as the level 10, without the High performance stuff (I wouldnt need that), but the feel, and increased durability...

$625 is pricey... If someone goes in half we can use my car as a gunea pig!

You get much faster shiftsMuch better feeling shiftsAdditional transmission life as well

$625 isn't bad at all.. You are getting a transmission that can shift as fast as new modern 5/6 speed trannys

I don't really care about the additional features of the level ten, personally..

I don't need a transmission that can handle 400-500 hp.. I'm not planning on that much power for my Q..

$625 is a bargin compared to nearly $4,000 for a level ten..

All the good benefits, without all the benefits I don't need..

I wanted the transmission for faster shifts, and more crisp shifting..

This accomplishes both goals.. Like I said read that lexus review, it seemed to make a very good difference..

The only thing you would get with the level that would be nice on top of this is the modified TC convertor, which you could still do to an oem transmission for another $800 or so..

That would still cost you have as much as the level ten, if you modified your TC

Glad you guys asked..

I really like this gentlemen I've been talking to. He has been 100% honest, and always eager to discuss this mod. IN fact I would go with him over level ten for his honesty, and quickness to reply to email.

If you would like, I can send you an instruction sheet via email forremoving and installing the valve body.

I need to be honest with you, even if it means losing a sale. As far as thevalve body reducing 0-60 and 1/4 mile times- unfortunately any of thoseclaims are totally bogus and are propagated by unscrupulous manufacturers(I've seen this on some Nissan sites and elsewhere). Speeding up the timethat it takes an automatic transmission to shift is usually not measurableon a timeslip, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The one transmission modthat will make an automatic trans equipped vehicle faster, however, is aperformance converter.

The reason to modify a valve body is mainly to enable the transmission tobetter handle increased horsepower, reduce its operating temperature, and togenerally improve its durability- while providing a more performanceoriented shift quality.

Please let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

Regards, John

John knows the R34 well..

I think I am going to have this done. With this and a nice transmission cooler the OEM transmission should not only feel much crisper/shift faster, but will have a much easier time handling the increased power from the JWT/exhaust.. and any future mods I do.. It should have no problem handling the HOT az summers, or any trouble on the track.. He also sells a nice autometer gauge.

If it blows, I can always do a full level ten type rebuild.. may as well make the oem transmission as good as it can possibly get.

I am going to request the install instructions. I will post them here when he replies.

It sure is nice having someone actually reply to your email, and eager to help.. Very odd in todays world..

Hi again Ryan,

If your car does go a little faster that would be great- I just would bevery hesitant to guarantee it.

I'm very familiar with the Toyota and Lexus valve body set ups, I modifyseveral of them every week. In many cases of elevated power levels, thetransmission simply wont survive without a valve body modification- thesecond clutches can be destroyed in a matter of miles in some cases.

It is very common for Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner owners to have me modifytheir valve body before the installation of a supercharger (the superchargeris a very common mod for these vehicles). Most of the people with thesevehicles know that the factory trans wont last long otherwise.

Most of the comments that you forwarded to me are relatively accurate, witha few nit-picky exceptions. I'm sure that after having it done, you wouldinstantly realize the benefits the first time that you drove your vehicle.

I think I was planning to revise my instruction sheet, but I will send youthe current one for now, along with the illustrations that go with it.

If there are other people in your forum interested, I will consider givingyou an even better deal, I realize that being the first person in aparticular group to use my services is important. Most of my business startsthat way- the first person has a positive experience with our products andour customer service and the word spreads.

Also, if you're are interested, we have a discussion forum on our websitethat definitely could use some more people from the Nissan and Infiniticommunity on it.

Regards, John

I have heard that modifying the Valve Body is common, in 300ZX Twin Turbo's. Z-1 has a guy that does it for them. I was considering it, myself.

I am not sure how different the 300Z transmission is from the Q45 transmission. The 300ZX's they modify have nearly 600 RWHP, after their midifications (or so they say). I understand they have a second location, with a dyno, though.

This is very intrieguing. Post the instructions, or email them to me.

Thanks!

John has also offered us a group buy discount. He has also welcomed nico to participate in his forums!

Here are the install instructions

Import Performance Transmissions

244 Rt. 23 South. Hamburg, NJ 07419

Modified Valve Body Instructions- Nissan RWD

Automatic transmissions operate at temperatures that can exceed 200 degrees Fahrenheit, we strongly recommend that you let your vehicle cool down before beginning this operation. If at any time during the process you reach a step that you don’t understand, call us for product support. Please read and familiarize yourself with the instructions before you get started. Remember cleanliness is very important in any automatic transmission work- have a couple of cans of brake parts cleaner on hand before you start.

Securely raise vehicle and remove transmission pan.

Remove filter, being careful not to misplace the filter “o” ring

Straighten harness retaining tabs and then remove clips and separate internal trans harness from the temperature sensors and solenoid assemblies. Note: often times, the plastic connectors are brittle. A heat gun, used in moderation, will serve to enable you to remove the connectors without damaging them.

Remove all but one of the valve body to case bolts (see illustration)

Carefully begin loosening the remaining bolt and lower the valve body from the vehicle, at this point, three springs will fall down with the valve body.

Installation procedure

Sort all hardware by the respective bolt length.

Install supplied 1-2 accumulator spring, in addition to the two factory springs. Use supplied assembly grease to retain springs in pistons. (see illustration).

Raise valve body to case, taking care to simultaneously engage manual valve into protrusion on the rooster comb assembly.

First install one bolt, finger tight, then install remaining bolts and brackets- just snug, using the illustration as a guide to bolt length and location.

Torque all bolts to 80 inch pounds.

Reconnect connectors and secure the harness into its tabs.

Install filter and filter “o” ring- torque filter bolts to 80 inch pounds.

Clean and install pan with new pan gasket.

Adjust band- 50 inch pounds and then back off 1 ¾ turns.

10) Put 4 quarts of ATF into transmission and start motor.

11)Check fluid as you add until trans is full (this could require 3 or 4 more quarts)

12) With the drive wheels off the ground (and the vehicle securely on jack stands) Run the transmission through the gears. 12) (Continued) Note that many Nissan computer systems will not enable overdrive until the engine has reached normal operating temperature.

13) Lower vehicle and road test for 2-3 miles.

14) Recheck fluid level.

Also, if any of you guys are considering a full blown level ten type rebuild, you may want to check with John@ import trans performance, first.

He is confident his product is superior.

I can tell you his customer support sure is. Also I have heard of some level ten quality issues from other people, but I've also heard good reports as well.. I don't have enough experience to say one way or the other..

IF you are considering it though, you may want to discuss it with him first.. Unlike level ten, you can actually communicate with them quite easily!

Good find Ryan...I wish I had known about this a little earlier, but no big deal as I am happy with my LevelTen.

Quote »IF you are considering it though, you may want to discuss it with him first.. Unlike level ten, you can actually communicate with them quite easily![/quote]

Well I am not sure about the quote above, as I have spoke with Sam @ LevelTen on many occasions (at least 15+ times about what the transmission will do/warranty/what each mod will do/etc) and he always took the time to answer my questions...no matter how novice minded they were and they always returned my phone calls within the next day.

Ryan...this sounds like a great deal for many and I am all for it as it would be a very cheap alternative as I am all for saving me and others monies when it comes to mods....God knows I have spent enough $$ already :-).

Just one question though and I have not seen any of this mentioned before in the previous posts so please excuse me if I missed it, but has he actually done a Q45 transmission before and can he provide you with contact information on somebody who has used his service for their Q45? I don't know much about transmission's and how each one is similar or different, but IMHO I like to know for certain that somebody has worked on a particular thing before and has had good results. With LevelTen we now have about 4 NICO members with LevelTen and I am not aware of any issues, but I could be wrong. This is just something to think about and maybe ask him if he can provide you contact info with someone who he built a Q45 transmission for.

Well regarding communication, allow me to clarify..

I was refering to answering email.. This may not annoy some peope as much as me, but it's a real deal breaker for me, when they don't answer their email..

I don't want to start a huge arguement over companies answering emails, but I can tell you, it really annoys the living hell out of me, when they don't...

John does alot of business, and can take the time to answer email.. Maybe it's just me, but I really like that.. Not everyone has access to phones, and email is very convienent. Personally I've given my business to companies who have answered email vs ones who haven't.

I've found if they do answer their email, this usually leads to them being better all around..

It's sort of like going to a mexican restaurant.. You know if the salsa isn't any good, the rest of the food won't be either..

Just my humble opinion, of course..

As per the first thread from the transmission guy from 1st post.

As far as the valve body modification, we are able to reduce shift times by around 500%, as a minimum setting. If even firmer shift are desired, at the customer's request, we are able to go beyond that.

As per the transmission guy from another post.

I need to be honest with you, even if it means losing a sale. As far as the valve body reducing 0-60 and 1/4 mile times- unfortunately any of those claims are totally bogus and are propagated by unscrupulous manufacturers (I've seen this on some Nissan sites and elsewhere). Speeding up the timethat it takes an automatic transmission to shift is usually not measurable on a timeslip, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The one transmission mod that will make an automatic trans equipped vehicle faster, however, is a performance converter.

Can somebody clarify the above 2 statements. They seem to contradict one another. I don't understand how one can claim to reduce the shift times by 50% through a valve body mod, but yet in another statement say that the reduction in shift times is neglible? As per q45tech...shifts take (I think) about 0.8-1.0 secs to fully complete...is there something that I am missing here? I am not trying to be argumentative or anything, I just need to know so that when I do my next transmission mod with my next vehicle I will have all the facts already sorted out so I don't waist monies or time.

Thanks....

Further clarification.. Competition is always good, having two choices is always better then one..

When I was posting about level ten a few months ago, people told me the quality can be questionable.. I don't know one way or the other, and I'm fairly certain that all of L10s Q45 trannys have been 100% rock solid.. I have heard musings in the supra forums about them not living up to expectations, but again NONE OF THIS I know personally..

I do know RSI, and a few other nico members (one with 100k+) have been very pleased with their L10 products..

So again, not trying to say one is better then the other.. However you now have one more option, if you want to go down this route..

Clarification;

Say you reduce shift times to 1/5th or about 0.1 seconds from 0.5 seconds... This is equal to being off the gas for 0.4 seconds per shift. Say two shifts in the quarter mile that's 0.8 seconds of being off the accelerator. That's not much in the scheme of things... I'm sure Q45Tech will be able to pull out some formulas to equate this to ET, 0-60, etc.

My best guess would be 0.1 - 0.2 seconds and a few MPH.
