seatbelt must be on another fuse. you know that is only supposed to go forward with the key out right? and you should have apositive wire behind the radio that is unswitched (i would tape this off before you blow the fuse again.)

use the test light with the ign off, the only one that lights it is your constant. used to be a dead wire before. and i would tape off all the hot wires that light the test light.

but how do i know which wire is the positive wire. after i tape off the constant there are going to be 2 other wires that are live. well at least when the key is in the ign

positive wires are the only ones that light the test light, basically tape everything off that lights the test light key in or not. you don't want to blow any more fuses.

Yeah it's a bad idea to have live wires not contained.

No problem man, i hate cars without at least a radio.

And on top of that, you learned to use a new tool and you learned a couple of wire testing techniques that will be transferrable to any car.

Good job on getting the radio working.

Hey take it easy there killer, that was my chosen profession for 6+ years. The problem is that they call Best Buy installers, professionals. The only ones there i would even come close to trusting would be the MECP certified ones.

make wooden plates 4 the front doors and you can fit a 6.5. if you are creative, you can fit an 8.

4x6's are not meant to reproduce much bass.

Hey Dak. That's awesome. :) Rock on!

Camel. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I'd decided I was going to fit the blame on the installers since they've not connected my deck properly and I also had an alarm installed that is now seriously out of whack. I know, I know, my apologies for slamming the audio folk but this work is under warranty and I didn't like the original service I received. They'll get it right or they'll do it again and again..hehe.

I was told that the dimmer wire (when audio guy #2 looked at the car a second time) was not at all connected..perhaps that would help say if one would like to have a dimmer working! Argh. I also don't have reverse lights at the back so perhaps they're on the same circuit? You would know better than I. End result though, is I'm not getting power to the switch, not getting a dimmer on my deck, not getting a siren on my alarm and scaring the bigeezus out of people in parking lots.

Can an improperly connected alarm drain the battery? I've had to buy another as it just couldn't start my car. Please explain as much of the dimmer circuit, or wiring that you can as far as what and where it should be connected to.

Sorry If my writing is a bit disjointed, i'm on break and rushed.

Cheers and thanks for your help. =o)

Not too sure about the dimmer circuit. Usually the tail lamps and the dash lights are on the same circuit. So make sure you have both of those.

Have you checked every fuse?

Personally, I would blame it on the audio shop if it's a big national chain and tell them to make it all work or your going to get your lawyer involved (or your dad's lawyer, whatever). Working in the industry in a large reputable atlanta shop, the squeaky wheel ALWAYS got the grease so to say.

As an installer, i hate to tell you that, but as a knowledgeable individual, I would be remiss not to tell you that there is a 75 percent chance or so, that they did cause the problem. I know i screwed up on a few when i was learning.

Hell, my buddy blew an airbag over his head while putting in an alarm (couldn't hear for a week!)

Well. The car went in for warranty today. I provided a lovely compilation of all the info I received from this site yet they didn't read it. The alarm is fixed (for today), it's wiring redone, re-charged and working. The dimmer on the dash works (i think how it's supposed to work) the dash lights do not. If he had read the notes I'm sure he could have figured it but I think he (the installer) was put off my all the electrical tape wrapped round the wires in there which is something done the first go round.

He wants to figure this out, said he'll absorb alot of the costs with warranty but I'm beginning to think bringing it there is not worth it. It's probably something so damn simple!!

Oh, but it was sure nice taking the car out for a stretch today. No snow.

Argh. Camel where are you located? lol!

edit: I have checked the fuses tested and switched new ones in and out to make sure but I'll try it again.

Oh, that's right, you have those custom JDM light up smart fuses don't ya. hehehe... I am in Atlanata man, probably the farthest away from you as it gets in North America. If you fly me up there and take me sboarding at whistler, i'll fix your car for free.....

lol.. well I'd take you boarding in Whistler but you'd have to pay the air fair. :pface No, no smart fuses. I've looked for them in store but never seen them. I just swap in new and known good ones for each different fuse.

I did mean the dimmer on the deck works, the dash not..but not like anyone cares. :)
