totally. especially if you walk in there with little knowledge, and even more if you tell them you have a qx4. You really should consider buying used subs/amp. You already have the deck but if it doesnt do what you want get a different one later. Just do it all yourself man were here to help, its not as hard as you think to wire up aftermarket deck/subs/amp, dont be intimidated, most of us did it, so can you.

Lol. The only part i'm intimidated with is getting through the firewall.

So the parts I need are:Interface adapterhttp://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...p=678Pocketht ... 86Steering wheel adapterhttp://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...p=701

For some reason Ebay only allows Paypal as the source for purchasing. Since I am under 18, and yes ive tried using my parent's credit cars under their permission but ebay found out, I cant use paypal. That is a good deal on that pocket with wires. What should I do?

Lets say after x years I want a new headunit. Will the above parts correspond with my next headunit?

I'm trying to save as much money as possible. My plan for the Qx4 is:Chrome tail guardsLed interior lighting20" chrome rims6000K or 8000K HID fogsfix scratchesIntakeAudioInterior Neon (blue to match blue LED lighting)White underglow (not ricey, just accent lighting)

I will email you later tonight with the prices once I get done with this pain-in-my-a** fiberglass project I am working on at the shop. Just to let you know I can easily beat all of those prices!.... and offer you some different product so you have more choices.

1: Those will be ok if they're the brush guard kind and not just aesthetic.2: Usually conversion kits don't come with very good voltage ripple filters. Expect to replace bulbs a LOT.3: I guess if that's your style, but why not more manageable 18" with nice thick rubber wrapped around them?4: NO!!! Those will not work. That spectrum of light refracts really bad. For fogs go with 3k, 4k at most.5: No, leave them be. Anything you do will be worse.6: How is the intake on these? I know alot of infinitis have free flowing intakes. 7: Cool8: No, no Nala. Grow up. At most i'd recommend white accent lighting.9: There is no such thing as non-ricey underglow kits. Not even street hotrods should have them

I suspect we are going to see a thread soon with nala asking why his speedometer, gauge cluster, brakes, car doesn't work....

Seriously though, almost every car I have seen you can fish the wires in the corner where the floor carpet comes up to meet the door sill.

LOL yeah the q is prettty much up in there. when i say under the dash i mean way deep....my forehead was bangin against the brake pedal. i had to shine light thru the other side to get an idea where the hole was. The vehicle wiring is pretty solid, he shouldnt have a problem, i mean most amp power wiring is blue or red, so hell know exactly what one to tug on. My 4 gauge wire didnt fit through that hole i had to bend it with a crowbar to fit my wire in there. Nala, make sure you have some sort of tubing around your power wire and run it near the firewall close to the brake lines like i did. MAKE SURE you have no way of wire being crimped, sliced, or cut anywhere in the vehicle. This is most important at the hole where it goes through the firewall (make sure the wire is freely moving in and out of the hole...thats what she said) and especially running it down the sides near your doors.

lets get your headunit going first though

Yea. So those above parts are what I need to order? You know those hyperwhite blue fog light bulbs? My local car audio place is selling them and I was thinking of getting some. Should I? They also have yellow, but idk.

BTW: all the partshttp://www.crutchfield.com/app/cart/default.aspxNow when my headunit was installed in my J30 by circuit city, after a month the speakers acted up and I had to get new ones. Will I have to change the speakers in the QX4?

good job on the parts, all were good prices!

as for the bulbs......are you stupid? STOP GOING TO THAT LOCAL CAR AUDIO PLACE. my god man. seriously how many times do we have to tell you that theyll rip you off.

dont go with hyper/blue anything unless its an HID kit. these "xenon" bulbs die fast, and alot of them just have a blue tint on them. They arent hyper anything.

if you want to upgrade but no HID your only option is reputable brands like silverstar or GE.

again, stop refering to that "local car audio place", im getting annoyed dude, they sound sketchy.

PIAA "hypers" are still just coated with a film.

The higher you go in the color spectrum the lower the output(lumens). Also, putting any film on the glass drastically reduces light output.

Just put the right bulb in there.

Note, a good range in the light spectrum for headlights is 4k~5k, 6k is turning blue.

4k will offer the most output. I've got 6k on my car, they've got a tinge of blue which is annoying

Ehh I like the blue tints, il just get 6000K hids and be done with it. Match the headlights.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2190923

I personally love the factory HIDs on the 01+ QX4s. They're 5000k, correct?

Here's the most accurate Kelvin color temp scale I was able to find.

Daylight is typically between 5200K and 5600K but in the film industry 5600K is the standard. My '01 is about that but they're original and need to be changed. As they age their color temp shifts slioghtly and they dim, just like a projection lamp. I'll probably replace them with 6000K globes and do an HID conversion to my fogs to match.

I definately wouldn't recommend 6k HIDs. I've got them, the output isn't as much as regular halogens in the 3k range.

Now, go with 4k HIDs and you'll be set.

IDC about output, more of the color. The 6000K HIDs I installed on my J30 were the same color, output, and coolness of an M35.

The color has nothing to do with the amount of light output, it sounds like you have a cheap kit and didn't do your research.

hes confused with the talk of "hyper bulbs" with the tint on them that reduces light output. HID bulbs have kelvin ratings, no tint

The higher you go in the color spectrum in term of kelvins the lower the luminous output.

This is assuming the same electrical input and bulb design.

The reason people perceive these bulbs as being brighter when switching from halogen is due to the increased focus on the ground right infront of the vehicle.

This puts more light right infront of you, where it does NOT need to be. Halogens and properly setup HIDs aim farther out then this and illuminate the road far ahead of you.

You're wrong. Color has no correlation with light output. Some manufacturers might not make 15,000K HID as bright because there isn't a market for it. I've got an HID that outputs 5000 lumens @ 6000K, I've got friends who have 6000K HID's from the same manufacturer that output 1500 lumens. Stating what you think people "perceive" is an easy way out, I know hard facts.. Beam pattern and fall-off are completely different issues. So your advice to stay away from 6000K HID's because they're not as bright is off the mark. FYI normal halogens are 3200K which is the same as any tungsten globes.
