I hate cops

OK, so last night I drop my girlfriend off at home, and then head back on my way. I pull out of an intersection, not going quick or anything, doing below the speedlimit, and I see the lights start to cherry on the top of the car. He pulls a u turn and pulls me over. He tells me that my exhaust is too loud, and in new york state, its illegal to modify an exhaust if it makes it louder then stock. Is this something hes making up? The exhaust is just 2.5" pipe cat back with a chrome, straight through muffler. I know that if youre above a certain decible level its illegal, but this laws sounds like bull. The first time i got a warning for the exhaust i was kind of hot dogging it around a corner, and this cop told me that it was illegal in new york state to modify an exhaust. period. he said anytihng over 1971 had to have a stock exhaust, which i also believe is bull. does anyone know how to look this type of thing up?

I dont know about looking it up...but i had the same thing happen to me. Got a fix it ticket and had to buy a silencer. I took the silencer off the same day though.

i live in cali and got a fix it ticket for having my front license plate on my dash, instead of mounted on the front bumper, isn't that legal though to have it on my dash? as long as its in the front and is showing?

I HATE COPS TOO! Cops are ****s.I was pulled over and I had a pocket knive on me, in my pocket (go figure) anyway, the cop says to me " Dont go for that knife son or I will have to pull my gun on you." What a prick, I couldnt believe him. sorry,venting. I HATE COPS

Interesting - There was a thread JUST like this about a year ago... Seems history repeats itself.

Everybody talks s*** about the PD... until their crap gets stolen, or they're getting smacked around by someone bigger, or they've got beef with a neighbor that they're too chicken to deal with. THEN the story changes.

Most of the guys who talk s*** about the PD are people who are too big of a pu$$ to even pass the physical requirements to BE a cop. And if they did, they'd piss their pants if they ever had to deal with the BS that the PD has to deal with (for a crappy salary) and still maintain their professionalism.

Ever stop to think that cops are typically guys our age, who might be into modding cars as much as we are? Maybe they're sick of wanna-be import boy-racers making the rest of us look bad with their stupid lous-a$$ fart-can exhaust (which, incidentally, is NOT a performance mod) and their poor driving skills (look, guys, I can drift, woo hoo - OOPS!) and their damn miserable attitudes?

I'd raise the BS flag on the pocketknife story, but I might get called a pr!ck too...:rolleyes

Dude, you didn't even get a citation, so QUIT crying about it. Learn the laws of your state - that's your responsibility as an informed citizen. If your exhaust is too loud, fix it. There's lots of guys here who can give you the RIGHT way to mod a 240 (to make more power vs more noise).

Amazing how fast people forget who the real heroes are in our society. But then again, you probably look up to Eminem or Tupac or whatever-the-hell his name was...

And in the future, please THINK before you post something so blatantly stupid as you did.

In my experiences I have found that cops are never there when I have needed them, and have always been there when I least wanted them (of course, speeding IS my fault, but couldnt they be out stopping drug deals or something?) Here in denton, it is BLATANT when the end of the month rolls around because there are speed traps galore from cops trying to meet their quota (even if they say they dont have one, these do!) I've met a couple nice cops...probably about 3...but I've met a lot more cops who were rude/arrogant/had an attitude problem.

we've heard enough "I hate the popo" sheit, we don't want to hear it anymore. If your local police say that your exhaust is legal, then fix it, don't whine about it, and if you feel like whining, then do something, that's also what your government is for.

stop whining about sheit and change it, you have the power to change your local laws, get it on the ballot, get sponsorships, DO SOMETHING!! I, too, am tired of peoples whining.

I for one have a GReddy SP style exhaust, intake, hell...I even have washer nozzles (though they are completely legal since they're white and blink with my signals) But I have NEVER been pulled over or hassled, I think everyone that "always gets hassled" is doing something to get themselves noticed, but that's just me

100% agree with hitman and xero. cops risk their life when they go to work. cops are a brave bunch. i know several patrol cops and sheriff's deputies. all good men, and all have the same desire to do good for their community. i've been on many ride-alongs and have seen first hand the crap they deal with. if you have a grudge with a particular police officer, write down his badge number and report him. otherwise show some respect to the man who risks his life to protect yours.

if its so hard to pass a cop physical why are there so mant fat lazy ones? I know there are cool cops, I have met many of them, however I have run into just as many that were pricks. There are a lot of racist cops too. Many of my friends who are asian get pulled over and harrased for stupid things that I would never get pulled over for, and our cars are similiarly modded.

lets just say if you had to deal with the lowest and nastiest of society everyday of your life ... youd be a complete as$ hole to a punk teenager that has a attitude towards you just cause you have a badge and are telling them somthing the already know but chose to do it anyway.... trust me i dont like cops or authority figures much myself being as im a two time convictd fellon and my old lifestyles consisted of nothing legal... and i hated all cops just cause they were out to put a stop to just about any activity i wanted to do... but now that im nolonger into that lifestyle.. im seein the other end of things. like the cops that join up to do good help out fellow citizens... we give them attitudes for bothering us when we are being foolish or doing somthing illegal.... yet they are doing what they get paid to... so quit beinng a jerkoff and just except your tickets and pay them and dont change your exhaust just keep on payin for it.. i got illegal tint and i get tickets i dont ***** much i just pay my fine and go about my business, i knew it wasnt legal i did it anyways and now i pay as i tell it to my friends a "maintence fee" !!

not true, i hated cops with a passion only because i use to skateboard and i sreet race, well it turns out i have gotten caught racing my 240 and i thought the cop was a total a$shole, it turns out i see him the other day, went up to him and shook his hand and told him that i know i was being a punk and even though i gave him alot of s*** he still did not arrest me, he let me off with a fuc|<ing Careless Driving ticket because there was no speedlimit in the lot we were racing in. I really hated on him, but then i seen him and i realized he could have cuffed me, arrested me, and had my car taken, I also found out his is a import fan himself, he has this bada$s celica with i believe to be a wingwest kit. It is as simple as don't break the law and they generally will not mess with you. Cops are your friend as long as you are obeying the law.

My two cents:

I am one of those who, first off, don't trust cops, but then I have a general problem with most ANY authority figure. On the other hand, I've had some very good dealings with some. Met many who seem to have it down the way their (collective) motto reads: To Protect and Serve. And many of those are just really nice guys.

HOWEVER... I also believe from both experience and reading the psycho-social dynamics of their culture that the mystique of 'being a cop' DOES attract many who shouldn't BE cops. The uniform, the big gun, the POWER!! (oh-my!!)

I don't believe in giving ANYONE more respect than they've EARNED, so I try to give each the chance to demonstrate what kind of cop they are. And deal with them accordingly.

And YES... some will try to baffle you with bullsh!t as part of their power trip. That's where the advice given earlier in this thread applies: LEARN YOUR APPLICABLE LAWS.

So, if you have a run-in with a cop that you think was feeding you a line or otherwise conducting him- (or her-) self inappropriately, GET THE BADGE NUMBER, do your homework to be able to prove your case, and REPORT THEM!!

Or if you're like the vast majority of the little guys like most of us, weather the experience, keep your head down, make them happy....

And then DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. But if that puts you right back in the wrong, be prepared to pay the price if caught.

Oh... one more thing.

LEAVE THE ATTITUDE AT HOME.

ANYONE deals better with a real and considered person.

as an EMT I work side by side with a lot of cops, and I have to say, a LARGE majority of them are very cool, responsible, and just generally excellent people. there ARE, though, enough of them that are just complete d!cks. I respect police, and I am greatful for the service they provide, but I WILL NOT accept everything they say/do at face value simply because they have a uniform on.

If you did something wrong and you got caught- than deal with it. If you think you were treated unfairly, or the cop lied for some reason, than we have a whole SYSTEM for dealing with these types of disputes. It's not "the man" against you, beleive me- if you're in the right, things will work out. We should all have that much faith in our communities.

Most cops around here are pretty fair and decent. I'd say about 60%. But the other 40% are out to ruin your life, might be simply from past experience because they are older. Also in hanover a nearby town of mine the cops let off these people I know for dui and possession of marijuana, sometimes they can be too lenient.
