Well I priced one out online today, $42,000 fully loaded. In light of this what are your opinions on the Genesis?

There v8 has some decent stats. Would be hard to beat. But at the end of the day it is still a crap car.

I still have very low opinions of Kia and Hyundai. I've heard and seen to much garbage from them.

I'm open to improving my opinions of them and FURD among other car makers, but right now, they're all still in the ditches.

Thee V8 is for the 4dr car, 0-60 in 4.8. They will roll out a 400HP+ v8 in a year or so. Their engines are also made of aluminum (just like the g's) but their v6 will be making 0-60 in 6.3 and 290hp. The car is oriented towards ricer peeps, 20k car w/a Turbo setup and it will destroy.

I don't know. 42k? wow that is a lot for it. They did not prove the car worth and it is 42k. Also it is not just about faster or not.

It is not just about the result. It is the satisfaction to get there.

If I want a cheaply made, fast car, I'll go buy a Mazda Speed series or a SRT-4 Neon.

I'm sure as hell, not going to spend 42k on a Korean "monster" car that may or may not be in the shop every other week with repair problems.

My dad tried buying me an Elantra. He said that my I30 had too many miles on it and wasn't reliable. I should ditch the performance and luxury aspect and just go for a brand new car with a super warranty.

He didn't take into consideration that the only reason they offer that warranty is because the car will be in the shop at least once a month for warranty work.

For the record, the I30 only "broke down" on my twice. Once was because my k-mart battery (thanks mom!!!) finally died. The other time was because my custom made intake melted (prototype).

This car is trying to compete with the lexus Ls 460! and by no means is it in the same class!

Price wise it is way better but I doubt that someone that could afford a brand new lexus Ls460 is going to say "gee I bet I could save 20k-40k if I just settle and buy a hyundai"

That isn't going to happen... Now maybe someone buying an Es350 lexus might say well, I get a lot more car for the money and buy it but no LS460 Owner is going to trade in on a Hyundai!

Hyundai's are crap. The girl I'm seeing now has a Hyundai and she can't wait to get rid of it. I took one ride in it for less than 5 minutes--it shakes, the transmission is going, belts need to be replaced (normal wear and tear tho), it doesn't even have a CD player! For its age, its in rough shape mechanically, but part of it is due to some shop wanting to flush her transmission at around 100,000 miles and now its probably going to fail on her. It apparently was the first time it had been flushed . If only we had met a year ago--she found out I liked cars, knew a little about them, so she started asking me about everything that she thought was wrong with hers on our first date, haha. What a way to start out by bringing a bunch of bad news, but it has worked out for the best, she just wants to ride in the G all the time now haha.

I think they are staring to GET IT a bit more when it comes to asthetics but I haven't ever heard anything good about a Hyundai engine. How about the look of the upcoming coupe version. IMO, not bad, def better than the Tiberon

i bet this car will be like a lexus ES330... looks nice, looks sporty, but my G35 will smoke it with 5 people in the car, and a fully loaded trunk. (true story)

i have driven a 2006 sonata (my ex gf was looking for a car) and i was impressed by the inside cabin, list of standard features, dual exhaust, comfy ride, and it looked nice... all for 25k fully loaded. i couldnt believe it was a Hyundai!

But their sorry track record haunts them... But on the positive side they have came a long way to even be in a position to present a car in that price range.

First question i would ask about this car and any other car is, can the engine and transmission take a beating as well as the G-35 or 350Z can? Folks, of all the things I commend Nissan on, i commend them on building a transmission and engine that seems to defy abuse. Genesis seems like a G-35 wanna be. I don't beleive the car will be as reliabel as a G-35. Most of all, can this car, even its V-8, hang with the 350Z or G-35 on a track? Remember, horsepower does not always translate into track wins---handling does.

I've seen this car testing out in the desert, I thought it was the new Tiburon. Seen them 5 or 6 times runnin around with their tails covered but the front very exposed.......just a touch bigger than the current Tib but the looks are better.......also saw the Challenger testers out there and the latest is the redesigned Dodge Ram p/u. They changed the front..........again!

Automobile Mag stats: 0-60 6.3 1/4 mile 14.6, 101mph "But add a few bumps and the Genesis takes a turn for the worse. Unlike any of the other sedans, the Hyundai falls completely to pieces on twisty, bumpy back roads. Push it hard and pavement irregularities send the Genesis heaving and wallowing down the road with the traction control light flashing and the steering wheel shuddering. When you're hustling with a car full of passengers, its soft rear suspension crashes onto its bump stops over moderately rough roads." Automobile Magazine October,2008

Have any of you seen this car in person? It is a very very good looking car.... reminds me of a G from the side!

I actually went and looked at them last Thursday at the Hyundai dealership. I can sit behind the drivers and passenger seat with them fully reclined. It is a M sized car maybe even a little bigger. Flat torque curve 330 lbs of torque 375 hp.

I drove the v6, the transmission SUCKS. It doesn't rev match on downshifts, it doesn't down shift or upshift quickly. The car has too much body roll IMO, tires are comfort geared not performance squishy and squealy

0-60 in 6 seconds isn't going to compete with the G but it will be competition for the M.

I have my name down to drive a V8

Gwoods:

Well said!

Other than the Evo and STI---4 WD, I am still waiting to see another medium RWD V-6 that can take a pounding like the 350Z or the G-35 coupe. I see many G-35 Coupe being pulled over all the time by cops---too exciting to drive.

Genesis looks like a Nissan Altima coupe in the front, and its interior looks like that of the Honda Acord Coupe.

I'm impressed with the looks and wouldn't mind test driving one for the hell of it just to feel the power. But I agree with most of you...owning a Hyundai makes me nervous.

Ever since my gf in highschool had one. We were driving home from up north at like 2am in pouring rain with only one wiper working and one headlight working. Then there was the time the hood decided to somehow un latch itself and fly up and cover the windshield.

V8? Bigger does not equal better...

There is a reason that Korean made cars get negative credits on insurance policies....

IT'S A HYUNDAI! You can throw as much paint on a piece of rotting wood as you want to make it look good, but in the end, it's still rotten wood...

The old Nissans may have been econoboxes, but they were still reliable. You can't say that about Kia, Hyundai, or Daewoo.
