I have a friend who says he changes it out once a month and uses synthetic.

He must love spending money but his car always has almost new oil.

I was just wondering what most other people do.

Its leaks so I figure if I just keep putting more in it changes itself, not really. I change mine 1000-1200 just because it sits a lot and i dont drive it.

Every 1000 kms.

Free oil changes at work ftw.

Every 5000 kms or 3000 miles is the standard though. Anything after that the additives in the oil start to break down.

As well, every time a there is combustion in a cylinder, you're burning a minuscule amount of oil and replacing it with a minuscule amount of fuel, which is the most important reason to change your oil.

Are you supposed to put oil in these things? That explains a lot!

I change the oil on the S13 every month and a half or so. Its odometer is very sketchy, so I have no idea the mileage. I use Wix filters, and the cheapes dyno oil I can get.

The S14 gets an oil change an average of 6 times during the summer. Its usually about 2500 miles between changes. Amsoil full synthetic, and a Nissan filter.

Being a mechanic I am very anal about maintenance. I push my cars hard, especially the S14, Ive put nearly 100,000 miles on its SR20 over the last 5 years. With track days, rally crosses, road trips, and general abuse, it needs all the help it can get. Even when its due for an oil change the oil is clean and gold, which is unheard of for a 20 year old turbo engine with OE internals.

The way I see it, Ive put thousands of dollars into this car. Another $40 is cheap insurance.

3-5K on a 190Kmile NA KA. I get free oil changes at work and its a semi synthetic. When I go boost with this old crappy engine it'll get the same, with changes after drift events/track days.

Once I get my other KA rebuilt/freshened up I'll swap to full syn and 2500-3K intervals

I had an FJ with such weapons-grade blowby I didn't have to change the oil, just kept pourin it in! It would suck down close to a quart a week and I would just dump in whatever I had lying around. Thing was runnin like 17W48 semi synthetic.

A guy I work with didnt change the oil on his T/A for nearly 100,000 miles. He would have gone longer, but the oil filter rusted out and started leaking everywhere.

Every 3000 miles or 3 months. Which ever comes first.
