Horrible, horrible news. $3700 Built engine exploded 15 minutes ago.

That's the shop's fault, 100%. Any time you buy a tubular manifold, there will be slag inside it, unless it's welded by professionals, and backpurged. When Boost Designs was sponsor of two forums, and everyone liked them, I bought a manifold to replace my revhard. And after spending $450 on the manifold, I spent 3 hours with a dremel and chisel getting slag out of the manifold. That's just something that the shop should have known to look for. However, my BD manifold has 4 welds per runner. The SSA has 2. What do you think has/had more slag in it? And I'm 100% sure that without deburring my manifold, I'd have a brand new blown Precision SC50.-Jeff

can you give me more info on that? I did a quick search on yahoo and didn't find detail instructions on "deburring the manifold"

if my dc manifold is salvagable, I'd like to, becuase it looks crummy on the inside

Really sorry to hear that another KA-T bit the dust.. I'm still going to have my KA-T up and running soon enough. I have faith in the KA. Also, when you get down to UNC, let me know, I'm always on Franklin Street in my Kouki

I have a 1/2" chisel, hammer, and a dremel tool with the 3' flexable extension - which is only 3/4" diameter rather than the dremel's 2" diameter. Then the grinding attachment, and get all the burrs and slag out. But.. this is way off topic.-Jeff

Yes, I would say common sense would tell you to check the entire manifold for slag/foreign material...

A rule of thumb for me is not to trust someone else's work. At least not 100%. Inspect everything before using it. When I had replaced my Revhard mani, I inspected the new one and found a small rod lodged inside a runner. It looked like somehow it got casted into place. It was rather easy to remove but could have caused a catastrophic turbo failure had it come loose during operation.

Hey MarkEmark, you go to UNC eh? I am currently going to NCSU and was thinking about getting an IAP stage 1 kit. Since I am pretty clueless about installing anything, maybe I could offer you a job at installing it for me. Of course I have to work out a few details like compression / 02 sensor issue / alignment.

Of course there is the issue of how high of a chance it could blow the motor....

This isn't definite of course, but if I decide to turbo it, i'm sure this would be some easy money to help you get back on your feet.

There are actually quite a few KA-T's in the Raleigh area, off the top of my head I can think of 4 within about 30 minutes of my house.

Just a quick reply to the SSA posts. SSA mani's aren't rediculously terrible. There's a local guy making over 600 rwhp with an SR using guess what......

an SSA mani.

By the way, sorry to hear all of this Marc. I don't post here a lot, but I've been around quite a while. Mostly just reading. Been collecting parts for quite some time, and I'm finally getting around to starting the project. Oh, and BTW, no Eagle doesn't make KA rods yet. They have been BSing about them for the past 3-4 months, but haven't actually made them yet.
