Ahh, to get arid of that horrid tan color! Lookin good man. You're making me want to play with the interior now. I've a few cracks in my dash and would like to try something like what pezi has going on, though I doubt I'll be able to pull off the finish near as nice. Was the shifter boot a part of the kit? or did you put that together? Can't wait to see more.

yeah the shifter boot came with the pedal/shifter kit at walmart for 20 bucks. I really like pezi's dash too, but I know I couldn't pull it off. I found a dash cap at www.autopartswarehouse.com it's a little pricey ($91.10) yikes! I'm going to get it though cuz my dash is really thrashed. Not just a crack or two but like the whole thing is just a series of dry rot and cracks. I thought of a hundred and one ways to repair it / redo it and finally just decided to go with the dash cap instead of the headache of fabbing something that's prolly going to end up looking like s***. They have the dash carpet kits for about a third the price but I don't really like carpet on the dash.

This prolly goes without saying to most of all of you who seem to be much better at painting than me, but for racing stripes / lines especially on vinyl get some of that expensive blue 3m edge locking tape. It'll save some head aches. capillary action sucks.

Finally before I started redoing the interior I looked all over the board for things other people have done. Seems the 720 guys really don't do much with the interiors. I'm glad this thread has inspired ya metalfab.

OK, now that you've said that Pezi has a cool dash, I want to see it. But how? Where can I see the pics?

I'll be using the diff off a Toyota prado. Just some brackets to move and install the land for the springs and you got 13.5 discs in the rear and of course you'll have to change the cable ends to suit the hand brakes.

well I was going to wait until I had pictures to post on here again, but its raining cats and dogs out there so the photo op will have to wait, I installed the carpet (looks awesome), and did the rest of the interior in black, minus the headliner which I did in charcoal gray (but did the visors and details up there black for contrast). installed some speakers in the rear (just little 5.25s sony splodes) makes a huge diff. I'm getting my subs this month, as well as the dash cap, weber 32/36, oil pan gasket, new rear view mirror, plug wires, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pressure regulator, and other assorted odds and ends. still to come electronic ignition (if cylinder pressures check out) otherwise a rebuild or swap, HID lamp install, suspension component replacement if required, someone remind me to go see the alignment guy. pictures to follow, letme tell you metal fab the interior looks so much better black and gray as opposed to diarrhea brown.

so I got a weber 32/36 on its way, a dash cap, new windshield molding, new plug wires (blue to keep up with you cool guys), wire looms, and a chrome rear view. $516 bah. I'm psyched can't wait to get going on it again. It'll be so nice to have a working choke! also got some more lights for the under dash area in the front. flexible leds they mount pretty much anywhere. Going to pick up my amp and subs in a few days woot! the GF and I decided we'd like to go to london this summer so I guess I'm going to have to ease back on the project funds :ohno:

Ah you have a previous tie to the city. I just think its interesting as to why people choose the places they do to go on Vacation.

I'd go somewhere with good food and drink and nice weather.

got my 32/36 weber in the mail today and oil pan gasket. Replaced the oil pan gasket today yay no more leaks. Removed the steering cross member to drop the pan but I still didn't have clearance without taking out steering linkage, so had to be patient and work with about an inch of clearance but managed to get er done. took a bunch of pictures and will post em up as soon as my phone figures out how to email them. oh got my dash cap and plug wires. waiting on the wire looms I ordered to do the wires. dash cap is laid in but not glued down yet. Its a less deep black than the rest of the interior so I'll get another can of black vinyl paint and hit it so it'll match perfectly. Interior is just about done :)

nah not yet I put about 6 coats on it. Its a concern though that vinyl paint doesn't seem very durable. yeah it's like a ufo at night. all the blue still makes it hard to see into the console when your looking for something though, hey at least it looks cool

installed the weber today, it was a process. took me a while to figure out the cable guide is upside down on these trucks and to flip it on the weber. I stood there for at least an hour scratching my head and trying to figure out how the hell they expected me to reverse the direction of the cable with the meager hardware they supplied. I'll take pics tomorrow it was too late and too dark for pics by the time I got it done. Runs good and I haven't done anything to it. Completely still factory specs. found some really interesting things in the vac lines. the line running to the dizzy is back and forth all over the engine compartment. going to get to deleting the rest of the non essential lines. deleted the egr valve in the install and it seems to do fine without it.

yeah don't mind my vac lines its a work in progress. I have caps I'm just waiting on some more line to do it right. I can't wait to get all the mech and suspension stuff straight, so I can feel ok about going forward with the body. I can't wait to see her matte black! :woot:

xD an understatement eh? I got owned by a similar year mazda pickup today at a stoplight and vowed for the millionth time on swappimg in a v6.. but a weber and a month or two later perhaps a pacesetter exhaust really does fit my budget better. Although knowing me I'll end up blowing the headgasket and have that much more cash tied up into it that a v6 would have been cheaper in the long run. o.O If pezi is autocrossing with a 38/38? I suppose my misconceptions about this motor have been strictly user error =P It's good to hear you're happy with the weber. Just remember where the vac line from the dizzy goes on the vac delete, above or below the plenum, as it does make a difference in vacuum from what I'm told. I have no idea where mine went and I'm too lazy to research it lol so I have it where it runs best at idle. Might not be best for higher rpm range though =(

ehh i'm not winning any races in this thing. it's not so much about going fast as it is looking good and taking your time getting there (with great fuel economy). That's my philosophy. I'm worried about the head gasket as well, but if it goes then I still have the carb and an excuse for a rebuild which'll put me back at 0 miles :) thanks for the advice on the dizzy line. i'm procrastinating on the vac lines.

redoing the fuel system today, new filters, lines, a pressure gauge, and a regulator if I need it. That way I can tune this carb properly. I have a question about timing though. My dizzy is advanced as far as the bracket will allow, if I retard it from there at all the thing runs like crap. There's no pinging and I don't have a light so I can't tell how many degs its actually advanced. I'm just a little concerned. would worn points or other ignition components require the dizzy to be so far advanced? I check the spark and its good and strong. just how far can you advance these things safely? would I consider modifying the bracket to allow for more advance?

installed the gas pressure gauge, the first one didn't work the second one read 2 psi, then 4 psi then 3 psi then quit working. mr. gasket brand pressure gauges from advanced are junk don't by em. in any event got the weber tuned in pretty good. still acts like its leaning out with both barrels open, but throttle response before that is friggin awesome. I actually chirped the ole tires on take off! not bad for a 150,000 plus motor. it's prolly only a matter of time before the head gasket goes. Just a note when replacing fuel lines there's no such thing as too tight on the hose clamps. really torque those bad boys down. Got my vac lines cleaned up too. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

alright a few note for those looking to upgrade to a weber or other after market carb. Something I didn't read anywhere before without a whole bunch of looking. when you first get it check your throttle plates really good for binding / stiffness (the baffle little circle dealies opposite of the choke baffles). Lubricate lightly if necessary. also insure they are closing all the way. If they stick slightly open or hit a stop slightly open it'll run crazy lean almost impossible to get to idle at all (essentially a major vac leak). check this before just going for richer idle jets.

Next fuel supply. when I installed my fuel pressure gauge (buy auto meter, stay away from mr. gasket anything it's crap). the pressure was ticking alot (+- 0.5 psi). Also the pump was making an audible clicking sound you could here it as soon as ignition was turned on before starting. I plugged the return line and now no ticking and the fuel psi is nice and steady. I don't know what the long term affects will be on the fuel pump. I'll let you know if it fails in the near future.

finally they don't mention in the install but the fuel intake port on the carb can be moved to the other side. You always want to install lines away from motor as engine heat will cause fuel to vaporise in the lines causing a lean condition. It was further recommended and I may try this moving the fuel filter to right before the carb to increase surface area for cooling and so you can visually see vaporisation of fuel in the filter if its occurring. Other recommendations were installing a heat shield, I don't think that is really necessary though. I might vent the hood to improve cold air flow through the top at some point. Besides it'll look cool.

in any event I'm looking forward to moving on... finishing my other projects (door switches still... been procrastinating), amp and subs still, cleaning up the back piece my speakers are mounted too, I have a new windshield seal to put in, gluing the dash cap down, etc....
