sandblasters dont hurt the valve cover but you have to blast it kinda evenly. but at my vocational school we have a media blaster that i threw it in and its on a rotisserie so its all hands off, then took a wire wheel to scratch it up and painted with hi temp 500 degree black paint

Hey, nice car yourself! Looove the Zenki's... I used Dupli-Color brand hi-temp engine enamel with ceramic. One can of semi-gloss black, one can of clear.

alright folks. kinda nearing the end of the weight reduction stuff. finally crossed the 100 lb mark, which was my goal. The tar that i removed was sadly only 21 lbs. There is some more on the wheel wells, but its a little different, seems to be glued on. im not real sure how to get it off. it was like 2 degress the other day when i was working, and while the other tar lifted off in huge sheets, this other stuff still stuck and was pliable! argh. anyways, i have to remove that other tar, remove the upper seatbelt assemblies, and then take that wire brush to the nastiness in the trunk. maybe some spray paint of something after i get rid of the rust. any suggestions? ill get more pictures soon, the digi cam is MIA. -Enzo

Yeah it comes in a spray can and there should be about 3 or 4 different brands of it.

I also painted my SOHC valve cover but I don't have a camera to take a pic. :(

i just took the VC off and covered the open head with some plastic wrap. VC took a little longer than expected cuz i had to disconnect a few wires and brackets to get to some of the bolts on the VC. ill go see how this aluminum stripper works

yea, i think im just gonna have to pull an all-nighter. the aircraft stripper seemed to do a decent job. i put it on and left it for 15 mins then scrubbed it down with a wire brush and rinsed it, then repeated that proccess except leaving the remover on for 30 mins instead of 15 mins. i couldnt really tell if it was doing anything because the finish on the VC is similar to the look of the aluminum underneath but i noticed it helped when i went to sand it down a little bit. took about an hour to an hour 1/2 to do all the sanding and i wasnt too thorough. then cleaned it and taped up the spots i dont want paint on and just put on the first coat.by the way, i decided to go with Ford Dark Blue Dupli-color hi-temp paint

Well my Hatch is totally stripped except for the tar. All I have is a driver seat, an I mean only a driver seat. No dash no nothing. I left the tar cause I live in florida an itd be too hard to remove. But for road noise its very very loud, you hear everything that hit your car. Also with exhaust its very loud. The car feels more nimble I guess you could put it but realistically I wouldnt strip your car unless your make it an all out track car. I just did it cause I was bored an trying to put HUD in it right now.

update: i stayed up all last night and by 7am i had 4 coats of paint on it and decided to get some sleep. woke up around 1 and sanded the lettering down and in doing so i made a few scuff marks near the lettering so i finished up the lettering, taped the lettering, and added one more coat of paint (5th coat) got back from a friend's house 30 mins ago and took the tape off the lettering and did a real light sanding of them, then just put on a coat of clear. it looks great.

Couple days, but you should be able to do it as soon as the paint's dry. I wasn't in any rush because my car's parked for the winter... Make sure your oven area is well-ventilated too. You'll get some wicked fumes.

well, i had waited about 2 hours after putting on the last coat then put it in the oven at 200 degrees for about 15 mins. went well except for when i went to take it out. i used some oven mits to remove it and where i handled it with the mits, some smudges were made. its not too bad but i notice it more because was the one that did the whole process. besides making a few little smudges it looks great. i just got done installing it because i need to use the car tomarrow. i took some pics that ill post up tomarrow cuz i need to get some sleep. thanks for all the help cam and everyone else who added input
