hey Dan, tell me how the cable works on your Mac when you get your cable. Are you going to straight through OS X or going to use boot camp?

You bet. I'd like to go just with OS X, but may have to go through some old windows enviorment thing. I'll try both.

Now, what's the best software? I'm sure in these nine pages there are some references, but if someone could direct me that would be so cool.

Newest ECU Talk 1.3.3 beta 4. Adds an offset to the timing to reduce by 35* so the gauge reads right.

3 Options. Don't remember which version I'm using. I'll check my laptop tonight.http://www.calumsult.com/calumsu/CalumSult/

Hi I saw Wes's first post and he said that this tool could read the BCM if the software was written. so I was wondering how hard would it be to have that done? I mean we have some programmers here but the usual question is time and inclination right?

No not yet. I just got the cable the other day. Plus, I found an old Windows laptop that I may try first. Buy, I'll get around to having it on my Mac.

I still haven't got this thing working. I haven't installed a version of windows on a mac yet, because I don't have the software. I had dug a couple of old windows 95 laptops out and tried to install ECU Talk and it said I was missing some file or something. What version of windows do you guys run this on.

What file did it say was missing? If it's just a .dll you can probably find it online just by typing the name into google.

It was some stupid dll. If I find it and download it, where does it go? I'm not a PC guy. I'm an old school mac guy and they don't have such. BTW, today I found a program supposed to run consult on Mac OS X 10.4 called ConSultan. Link is here:

I have found some other interesting software links:

I don't know if this would work or not.http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/downloads.htm

I always worry about old MAC guys the last one I dealt with drank a bottle of Morphine Sulfate every day. He wanted to die at his desk and I almost let him. He lasted less than 3 weeks after I finally suggested he go home for good.

I changed out 72 MACs to PC the day after he left. All the younguns under 60 adapted. But that was in 1993.

Just for the record MAC/APPLE DLL technology is called "Code Fragments". Put one or more of these into a file and it's a "Code Fragment Library" or"shared library".

DLL is fewer letters and easier to say.

DLL = Dyanamic Link (Code) Library

Shared subroutines, in a sense. Most are in Windows folder.

If Jobs had half a brain, he would sell OSX on the open market and get out of the proprietary hardware business. Think BillG told him he couldn't do it when MS gave him all that cash?

I downloaded ConSultan [See Above] and it runs fine on my Mac PowerBook G4. I've got Jamie's connector hooked up, but ConSultan can't see my ECU. I've tried it with the switch on and engine off. I've tried it with the engine running. No help. I tried two different USB cables and both USB ports with no success. Could be the Jamie's Consult Interface as this one has never been used.

Can some of you Mac people who know their consult interface works try it?

I realize that I'm probably posting faster than people can respond, but I figure I"ll keep you up to date and someone will help me. I downloaded OBD SCAN TECH 1.29 "NISSAN" from the website above and installed in on my Gateway Laptop running Win 98. Installs and runs fine, but can't connect to the ECU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which drivers are you installing for the cable? When I got my cable I didn't get a link to any drivers and installed the ones off Blazt's website. They didn't work...I asked him about it and he gave me a link to a different site. Now it works great with the right drivers!

That's your problem! Not sure why he doesn't send out the link with the cables! I figured he just forgot to when I bought mine.

ecutalk says says it needs the .net framework 1.1, which i doubt works for win95 (maybe win98 minimum), so thats probably why it didnt work.

Just a note to all those who have purchased cables from me in the past, or are considering one - I was without a testbed (car) for a while and so I stopped 'production' once I ran out (I used a bench ECU for a few).

Fortunately, I'm back in the S13 realm, *unfortunately*, it's not running and I haven't had another batch of PCBs made. Hopefully sometime this year I'll step things back up again. Life has a funny way of sucking up all the 'fun' time.

Anyway, that said, I just wanted to mainly make mention that I'm always available via email for support or questions, and board repairs are still possible(to an extent, if the board is roasted, you're best to pick up one of the other numerous 'brands' out ther). As linked above, you are best to download the drivers directly from Silicon Labs' website - the CP210x is the device driver of interest. I do not have any Mac experiance, but I do indeed have confirmed reports of this working back on OSX.

Cheers,Jamie

Seems to be a dead link.

Anyone have a better one for the CP2010 driver?

Sorry I can't provide a direct link, but try here:https://www.silabs.com/product....aspx

On the right, there's a drop-down labeled 'Software Downloads' select CP210xVCP, and the appropriate OS.
