Once again -

Jamie: Does your CONSULT interface require a different Data Link connector in order to be usable with the late-model Y33?

Hi Skibane: unfortunately the second gen, Y33 uses the CONSULT-II protocol, which will not work with these boards. Sorry! I saw your original post and was actually looking for a schematic until I noted the year.

Well it is by default, a limitation of the coding on the stock ECU. The PLMS board is as Wes said, basically an EPROM emulator with a graphical interface and CONSULT functionality. If you can chose a COM port from the application, this board will work fine with that software(of course no map changes are possible).

I want to get in on this but I won't have the funds for a couple weeks. Any chance I can reserve my unit somehow?

Very nice work Jamie! I contacted you a while ago about getting one of these but wasn't able to swing the money at that time and forgot about it. I don't want to miss out again.

On another note Jamie, do you make the PCB's yourself or do you have them made? Reason I'm asking is I have a few circuits I would like PCB's made for but don't have the time to make them myself, just too many projects on my table right now. I have software to design them but that takes time too. If you do these yourself and are interested let me know. Idealy I'd like to send you a diagram and have you lay it out on the PCB, drill, and etch them. You can e-mail me if you want to keep this separate.

Thanks.

Wes- just sent ya the cabbage.

Jaime- Of coincidence, i was looking at your stuff on ebay just the other day before Wes posted up this thread. Was on the fence, but now that i know i've got tech support from a NICO brotha it's even worth the extra $5.

for other folks interested, there's a group called BLAZT that also offers cables (don't look as clean IMO) but perhaps more importantly, they offer a software package including a datalogger (Brian) for $50.

qsiguy: The basic CONSULT 'concept' circuit is that which is publically available. The design as a whole however is done by myself, including the addition of the USB bridge, 95% surface mount components, all the component tweaking (values), and some additional reliability. So is the PCB layout. The boards are manufactured at an off-site boarding house, and are about the best quality FR4 boards you can have made. The units are hand assembled and tested by myself on my own S13.

These PCBs have soldermask layers, which the cheaper units do not(this is the green that you see). This keeps corrosion from forming on traces and in the end, results in a longer lasting, more reliable device.

GQ Jay:Yes Blazt is a good source for the Nissan DataScan software and the DataLog *viewer*. I emphasize the viewer, because the logging is a function of the DataScan: you can still view the log files with Excel, but it's a PITA. The optional viewer piece of software just makes this much easier.

Of course DataScan and LogViewer are completely compatable with these cables, and I highly endorse DataScan.

Kevin: sorry, but these boards are for early-mid 90's Nissans and Infiniti's only.

There is a timing adjust function which relinquishes all control of timing and locks the IAC valve to allow mechanical adjustment.

Thanks. Datascan looks like a winner, but is another one required for diagnostics?

No, DataScan does it all: there is a seperate program to aid in viewing the datalogging, but it is not neccessary.

What is the extra program? Guess I need to go back and study the offerings again. I thouight datasccan was the acquisition and dispaly program, hence my question about diagnosis.

Sorry if I confused you. Here's the deal: DataScan does everything from display the data(on-screen gauges) for timing, temperature, RPM, etc, allows you to turn off cylinders, temporarily adjust things such as timing, AAC valve, etc. It also allows you to record all of this information to a file, aka datalogging.

Now, you can open up that record file in Excel, and see rows/colums of information. If you want to be able to view that information in nice charts and graphs, the *other* LogViewer program just makes this easier. You can still do it in excel, it just take a little time.

Hope that helps!Jamie

OK, I got you. DataScan + LogViewer

I guess I could rely on pivot tables.

So, if my Q runs fine and I've gotten by these four years without ever needing a CONSULT, then do I need one of these?

where can i get a free nissan DATA SCAN? jamie i checked the link but the link on data scan is: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

how much is to purchase a software for your usb-consult? i am not an engineer but basically all i need is a basic diagnostics and how to reset that i guess and prolly fix some issues?

will it read all/most of the codes from the original consult form misfires to sensor failings right? if these usb-consult will know what's the exact problem on the car, i would say this is a must-have for G50 owners.

thanks for your geniuses..........

ponzy: DataScan is not free, but there are plenty of other free programs out there. Check the link I posted above.

If you would like to purchase DataScan 1.5, it is around $20-25USD if I recall correctly. It also is in the link above.

Yes you can pull the diagnostic trouble codes stored in the ECM.
