you guys talk about quality. THE DASH OF THE ALTIMA MOVES WHEN YOU PUSH THE START BUTTON!

dont get me wrong i love every thing about that car but it was horrible quality. nothing but plastic. i had a engine ticking sound every time when i started it whether it was cold or not. thats not normal and i proved that with another altima at the dealership. the car rattled like no other on the inside. i wanted the cobalt at first and i talked myself into liking the altima but i do like everything but the performance of the 2.5 and the quality.

surely you will not win an argument about quality and quality control comparing Nissan to the Chevy Cobalt. Your issue here appear to be price first, quality second. And for the price, IMo you would have been better off getting a Scion and turbo charging that. BUt make no mistake about it... within a few years you will loathe buying a Chevy and understand where folks are coming from. There is just no way around it... all of the lower line cars from the Big 3 in America are garbage on wheels!

we each have our own opinions on stuff. the cars i was looking at when i was pruchasing the altima were

1. Pontiac GTO 6.0 6speed 20052. Chevy Cobalt SS 2008 Turbo3. Scion TC 2009 Supercharged4. Nissan Altima 2.5, and later turboing it.

these are all nice cars in my opinion. im not nocking the nissan brand, my brother just purchased a 350 z. Might have been my Altima in perticular. Dealers thought I was crazy. My GF owns a 2007 Pontiac g5 which is a cobalt. Has 95,000 miles and chages the oil when the oil life indicator says which is like every 9000 miles (which i wont be doing) the only thing she had to replace on it was a wheel bearing. My friend has an 07 Cobalt lt, and hasnt had any problems with 50,000 miles. I dont keep cars the full 5 years of the loan anyway.

I own a 1984 Olds Delta 88 (GM as you already know) factory motor and trans going on 300,000 miles. These cars can last just as long as jap cars. We have a Chevy astrovan where I work as a work van, that has 384000 miles on it! With just regualr maintenace.

My gf's '06 Chevy Cobalt has had an engine coil go out, needed her a/c replaced, electrical problems... and she only has 25K miles on it.

interior of the Cobalt turbo SS looks really nice with the red inserts:

it's even got brembo brakes!

but best of all is the 1000hp capable ecotec engine

one would be a fool to underestimate it. if it was rwd it would be a 240sx killer. it would slay anything on the track

p.s. i drove American my whole life my g-paw worked for gm and i got the discount. this is the first foreign car i bough and i will never buy American again there is absolutely no quality anymore and the interiors are all junk hard plastic and on and on...That is a big part why the big three are going under there not even in the top 8 car manufactures they dont deserve to be " bailed out " that is bs and i dont want to pay for it i dont care if they go under...build a better product and become compeditive again or fail and close up shop.
i agree 100% close up shop so some one else can open up and make a better product for all of us. we aint buying it becuase its mostly crap.

did you just compare a 2009 chevy vehicle to a 1997 nissan 240sx? My guess is it will NOT destroy a modern day 240sx if they decide to make one... you're comparing apples and oranges... I'm not gonna debate this any longer... America lower line cars are crap.. no matter how they try to dress them up... if you put sh*t in a can of caviar, it still tastes like sh*t!

should went with the GTO..... it's actually a Australian car (vauhxel or what ever) and it has an amazing interior and even stock that thing is way faster then your average car

what? that doesn't even make sense. You gotta give them props for making a great bargain FWD sports car.

the engine is legendary, 4-piston fixed-caliper Brembos, manual transmission with short-throw shifter, Nürburgring-tuned FE5 Sport suspension delivers 0.9 g grip and best of all ECOTEC Engine /end thread

whats wrong with you?

cobalt is the best of both worlds. fuel economy with speed. i drove a gto. theyre monsters but they also get 20 mpg probably BEST at highway. epa rates the cobalt at 30 and im only averaging 25-26.

and to everyone else that just wants to knock my decision i didnt come here to be knocked. i came here to tell everyone of my decision. if you guys decided to trade in your altima for a honda I wouldn't give any of you ****. Its your decision. Everyone has different tastes and some are opposed to Domestic. im not limited to domestic or imported. they are all nice cars.

Not Vaxhaull, its a Holden, Holden Monaro. The GTO is essentially a left hand drive version of it.

Good luck with the SS bud. I agree with your reasoning, alot of **** does rattle around and whatnot.

This thread has made me look at an STI again haha fml. Lemme ask you a question, how much did you end up selling it for? Did you sell it back to a dealer or privately?

My thing is if you had problems with your a/c why didn't you take it to a reprutable Nissan dealer. I had a couple of rattles and a squeek and my dealer took care of it after a couple of visits. The SS is an ok car if thats what you like. I like my a/c, but its no Continental GT or 911. It's a NISSAN for godness sakes.(albeit mine's a fine Nissan) I'm sure there are guys on M3 or A5 sites that think our a/c are crap. It's all relative imop. Good luck.

Good luck on lasting the Balt for 100k. Should have went for the new Mitsubishi Ralliart if you wanted something in that category.
