Thanks I appreciate the compliment! To be honest though, I just sort of skate by on reading a lot and then practicing it a couple times.

The best thing about this generation of technology is that we are able to learn so much from other people on the internet and that si great for those of us willing to absorb it.On the other hand the most difficult thing about this technology os that there are always people out there who unashamedly act like asses and trash on everything you do.

Whether you are a newb or have 20 yrs experience I always tend to appreciate the level of commitment people have in a community like this to "Do It Yourself"... experiment with new ideas and be ready to pay the consequences! LOL

Anyway, I am almost finished with my write-up on "Lincoln Locking" the rear end. Mine should be called "Hobart Locking" hahaha I like that!

DIY: Removing and Welding the Rear Differential

1- Jack up the rear end of the car. Follow safety guidelines for jacking up the car because you'll be way under this thing and getting rough with it at times. Also drain the fluid at this point which (I forgot to until it was down... whatever

2- Remove the axle shaft bolts first, 6 per side (Green)

3- Remove the Drive shaft bolts next, 4 total (Pink)

4- Remove Subframe Differential mounting Bolts, 2 (Blue)

5- Place car jack under differential and support weight

6- Remove Chassis Differential mounting bolts,2 (Red)

7- Drop the differential by lowering the jack. This is harder than it sounds. Getting the axle shafts to seperate is tough because they have a large nipple (lol) that goes in to the differential. There are ways of getting it done but there's no one way, so advice is great but in the end.... just get it done.

8- Slide out the Differential and Remove the Cover bolts

9- Clean it out with Brake Cleaner. Make sure to spin the center housing to clean BOTH sides because you will weld both side. (You can only spin the center if both shafts move the same direction We'll make that stop soon!

10- Once it's clean weld the Spider Gears to each other. (They are the four gears in the very middle)

Start in the corners, also weld up the edges to the outer wall.I only got one pic of this by accident, sorry. I meant to take a lot more but this was the very first pass getting into the corners.

11- Once you're satisfied and it's cooled down try and clean out some splatter (It's inevitable imo).

12- Using a small amount of liquid gasket install the cover. Replace the fluid. Put the dang thing back up under there... again easier said than done but you'll be fine.

RESULTS: OK so I started to upll out of the garage slowly... I turned the music off, windows rolled down... The slightest turning WILL cause squealing, hopping etc... A small drive down the street showed a car with totally different characteristics. It will drift sideways with absolute ease! Imagine being in second gear rolling at 25, cranking left and flooring it and the thing will absolutely fly... hehehe very fun. My Launch jumped by 1500 RPMs (Up to 2500) and with sider tires and traction control I am sure it would make a good launch upwards of 4K.

Anyway... So I took it into a local school parking lot and even at night I was invisioning trying to drive this everyday if I worked in a city with lots of parking lots and short roads etc... Ehhh Your call but let me state my opinion on this::::::This is not going to be a good choice if you drive this car every day to work, store, church, pick up kids etc... LUCKILY for ME I have an I30 and G20 that I will be now using more frequently.

The performance characteristics are GREAT! but the daily drivability is just a little over the top and imo you'd be better off buying an LSD of some sort.

I'll try and get a video very soon... Since it's basically 4th of July is should be easy to tear up a parking lot without Cops barking around... too much noise outside :D

I've decided to sell the wheels I bought.

I was going to buy some 18" 350 wheels but I think it would be slightly counter productive to what I want to achieve.

This is an image I have burned into my eyes. So I'm thinking about buying some Weld 15" draglites now.

Weld Racing is actually in KC so I might just be able to find a good deal if I go down there.

God has smiled nicely on me. Yesterday my wife was driving and a semi-truck backed into our Infiniti I30. The damage was minimal but those I30 hoods cost a ton. Plus the bumper has to be replaced.

It's looking like a $1500 claim. Gonna go to a couple body shops. The business said they would pay everything out of pocket to us rather than an insurance claim.

I'll probably fix and paint it all myself and then I'll have the rest for... you got it.

Yeah probably but only if I get some at a good price. plus I'd prefer not to have to swap over to a 5 lug... that would increase my costs without any real benefit IMO

OK made a change in my wheel choice. I'm gonna go with 17" Rota P45R. As much as I like the full drag look I think it's functionality over aesthetics is so minimal that I'm gonna choose to 'lean' a little towards looks.

I think I'll try to get them in a 9.5" rim but if 9" is all I can find then so be it.

Some body work I'm doing.

It's taking some time and I'm not in a rush. I simply want to remove all the little dings before I paint it.

This is my first attempt at body work so I won't be laying down ANY paint until I have someone come by and check my work first. (FYI)

That was a prep stage after I hammer out, sanded and primed.

This next part was the first paper thin layer of bondo.

After a days work it seems like the only spot that's going require any extra bondo is going to be the side right behind the door. The dent wasn't deep but a single layer of paper thin bondo simply wasn't enough. I have a feeling though that this area could potentially be out of abilities because of it's general size getting it even all the way across without any waves thus far has been next to impossible.

All the other areas are raised above the paint so I am confident with a little more work it will be unnoticeable by touch or sight.

Any comments or suggestions PLEASE feel free to criticize.

The tough spot

The rest just need a bit more sanding, except maybe next to the gas door it might be ok

Upon much more thinking about the larger section I determined that my problem was the way I was laying the filler on. I was using a smaller spatula rather than the wide one.

So I leveled it out and reapplied a much larger area but still then. Thinner towards the edges and slightly thicker in the center.

Even the actually coating looks a lot more presentable than it did before.

These other spots are areas that are totally done. I only have to finish the dent above the wheels well up front. (and sand down the big one in the pic above)
