That's like $1/gallon less across the board from DC prices. Apparently DC has, on average, the highest prices in the nation right now. Northern VA is not much better.

Hopefully our prices will begin to drop as more oil flows from the refineries and the pipeline gets back to full operation.

Considering what's going on down here, I'd say it would be a serious mistake for the oil companies to give us the big "f**k you" by gouging us at a time like this.

Prices were over $3.00 last week and there was no gas!!

I hear some places in DC are, yeah.

I just heard it on the Today show, which is a national news program, so I dunno why they'd be biased to saying DC was the highest average unless it really is.

I'm sure that title changes hands on an almost daily basis anyway.

^ hahaI heard a news report on the radio saying the DC area was 2nd highest next to Buffalo NY. The average here $3.41 for low grade.

I waited in line again this morning for $3.11/gallon...

And closer to the refineries?!? Does it cost a $1/gallon to ship/truck/pump the gas here??

I saw a guy pull the bag off a 87 nozzle and try it, but he put it back and used the mid grade. I didnt think to try to others, but I'm glad someone did.

I waited in line for 20 minutes last night to buy 87 octane at $2.93. This was across the street from the place I mentioned above, and they were charging $3.49 for 87 cotane.
see, that's b.s. I managed a gas station a few years ago and know for a fact that you can't use 89 if the pumps for 87 and 93 don't work. 89 is actually mixed on site as you pump its a 50/50 blend. For the station to make you buy 89 is crap, that was a attempt to make money.

2.80 - 3.10 for 87 Octane 3.05 - 3.30 for 93 Octane

And get this... $4.49 for 100 octane at pump $6.50 for 110 octane not pump

Its about 3.05 for premium here in Los Angeles, but at least not all of you see this everytime you're tempted to use regular.

Prices are dropping here in nor cal, maxed at 2.99 for low grade over the holiday weekend, yesterday it was down to 2.95. Why is it when gas goes up it shoots up quickly, but when its on the decline it takes much longer to reach a low point?

TMS, Of course your gas is more expensive. what do you expect when there is no where to drive? whats a long trip in that country ? an hour drive to the coast? from either side of the island?

"PREMIUM FUEL IS RECOMMENDED FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE" my ***

Transverse the same engine (Altima) and it runs fine on regular with 5 fewer horses.

I am convinced it's part of a conspiracy! Make people THINK they've got a premium motor when all they've got is a transplant from the hardbody pickup.

The thought of tuning an engine like the KA24DE run on Premium Fuel is so outrageous.

And I buy into it. I run premium and always have. Never have tried regular.

Have you advanced your timing a bit to take advantage of it?

suddenly i don't feel as sorry for myself. last time i filled up it was 2.89 for regular (87 octane) i use midgrade, i actually get better gas milage with it. 2.99 for mid-grade, 3.09 for premium. Vancouver Washington area. Sucks if u go off the freeway though, 3.49 for regular *gasp* i live in the middle of nowhere so gas is cheaper where i am.

Also, the refineries that were hit by Katrina only contributed about 3% of our gas. Why the sudden spike i wonder . . . .

There's no crude oil to be refined, my good man. The rigs in the Gulf are all a mess right now.

Further, I wouldn't rule out Chalmette Refining (ExxonMobil) or Murphy Oil. That Murphy refinery supplies the entire southern United States Wal-Mart and Sam's Club gas stations, including Texas. Those were both MAJOR refineries and they will be hit hard.

LESS CRUDE + LESS REFINING CAPACITY = Higher prices.

that's not why. something like 80% of oil entering the country goes through the port in NO, and since that port has been closed, everything has been a mess. luckily around here the prices seem to have dipped a bit. i think the federal reserves have been tapped so that may be the reason. anyway, gas around here is at about $2.79-2.89 for 87 to ~$3 for 93.

I'm not certain, I'd search in the NA KA section. I know it provides a discerable gain though.

Exxon had revenues of $88.6 billion and $7.6 billion in profit for the 2nd quarter 2005. They may pass WalMart as the largest US company by revenue.

So what if the price of oil is going up. Theyre still making huge profits from us at the pump.

And if octane rating is the fuel's resistance to knock, how can higher grades increase fuel economy? Unless your ECU adjusts timing, etc in response, mileage should remain the same.

The real truth is that US oil prices have been far out of line with the rest of the world for years.

They were looking for an excuse to jack up the prices for years...they got it with 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Prices will never be below $2.00 a gallon ever again. You can bet money on that. US oil taxes are among the lowest in the world outside the middle-east. That gives the oil companies plenty of room to nail the consumers without the outward appearance of screwing people. Europe and Asia's high oil prices are mostly taxes and always have been. Charge the same prices here and, boom, you've got profit.

EXACLTY... MY A**

the higher the octane simply means more resistance to detonation... Thats why when u run nitrous or turbo, u have to run higher octane fuel..

Going from 87 to 93 is NOT gonna make u go faster, it will ONLY make u faster if u advance the timming along with the higher octane...
