haha my friend's SR has been nothing but a pain in the a** since we put it in. It runs and drives but won't boost. I think the POS BOV could be the problem.

wat bov is he using? recirc? whats it doing when he tries to hit boost? it bogs out and runs rich? or jumps and pops?

if it bogs and runs rich the bov is allowing metered air to pass thru when its supposed to be closed at wot, which in turn is telling the ecu that theres more air going in to the motor then there really is.

if its poping and jumping its something to do w fuel deliv/lean or timing issue.

lmk

(btw i hate sr's )

Ok well here is the story....first we were having overheating problems with the car. Hoses leaking etc, I spent $38 on two damn heater hoses so I could run them from the block to the firewall like they are suppose to. So after that we fixed the overheating problem (so I thought). Let the car idle for 20 min filled it with coolant, ran fine didn't bubble out or anything. So we went to drive it. Got on it a couple times to try and get it to boost and nothing...the last time he f***ed with the BOV and floored it and it boosted, but the temp shot up right afterwords, thinking it might have been an air bubble.

It's a BOV BlackZenki had on his gray car. It's a knockoff HKS. When it tries to hit boost nothing happens. You can hear the turbo spooling and you wait for it but it just never catches boost.

hey guys, some of you may remember me.... i was trying to get a 240 a while ago and the deal ended up falling through...

anyways, ended up picking of a 95 SE but the downside is, its an automatic.

i remember of few of you said that you had the parts to swap it over... just wondering if that offer still stands or if anyone can help me get the parts to throw a 5speed in this thing.

Any help would be awesome

thanksdave

What's vaccum at idle? Any massive exhaust leaks?

sounds like the coolant system has air in it like you thought... as for the boost issue, im going to piggyback on clawhammer... what is the boost gauge doing? Not spooling at all except for that one time? Sounds like a possible leak?

and how do i contact that basson?

He doesn't have a boost gauge hooked up to it at the moment so IDK. It's open downpipe so no exhaust leaks.

It spools every time it just doesn't boost.

There's no PM feature btw.

Exhaust leak after the turbo doesn't matter; it'll just be loud. If there's a leak at the head/mani or mani/turbo it will be detrimental to spool.

Also, is it stock T25? Internally wastegated? Have you tested the WGA? If that's blown and the WG is always open you'll never build boost unless you build enough boost to overwhelm your wastegate (boost creep).

Sounds to me like it's something exhaust related; leak at one of the aforementioned places, or a wastegate problem. A turbo is not a complex thing. A bad BOV (stuck open?) would give you a boost leak big enough to stop the car from running unless you constantly gave it gas.

Nevertheless, hook up a boost gauge immediately. How's it run? Although you don't need a gauge to know you have a boost (vacuum) leak cause if you did it would run like s*** which you haven't mentioned. None the less, vacuum readings are a great diagnostic.
