I can't tell from the after pictures, but I guess you completely removed or cut out part of that battery shelf?

No, it just just surface rust.. hit it with a DA to smooth it out. The car is surprisingly rust free. There is even no rust in the rear 1/4's although it wouldn't matter anyway I guess since they be getting cut out..

I think the pic makes it look worse than it actually was.

That's good for sure.. I see you are plugged into some serious metal fab talent out there.

Do you know anyone out there who could make a G50 lift kit -- 1.5" for the front and 1" for the rear?

I'm plagued with speed dips out here in suburbia.. They are the opposite of a speed bump where your wheel sinks down and it causes lower built cars to bottom out..

Really a badass job man! Don't sweat the haters, it's easy to be a chair jockey. Frankly, they should have more respect for the fact you're even able to do it! Cool idea and please keep us posted.

Just so you know, we REALLY eat up videos of finished product, wink wink :)

Nice work, yes the Toyota logo hurts badly, but like most 25-40 year old men, I had many wet dreams about Supras in my youth so I still have respect for the Toyota name, in some applications.

Thanks!

I spent some quality time with just me and the Q today :) I got the radiator situation figured out, I'll be running the OEM G50 radiator and custom lines. The OEM radiator is huge, so it should be more than sufficient to cool the new engine. I made up some custom Radiator hoses as well and got everything mocked up.

I also managed to figure out the heater hoses, and get them installed.

All little stuff but necessary. Getting close to first start time!

Oh and quality pictures will be up next week! Videos will be up shortly.. speaking of videos, here is one of our last demo car:

I thought I was the only one to think of dumping a 2JZ in a Q45. Well now I can't do it since someone else did.Glad you are too since mine would've been done later in the years. Can't wait to see it running. :naughty:

I think it was $125... but I had some other stuff done by them at the same time so I could be wrong.

So, the JDM Headlights came today. The goal is to make them look like this:

Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen right away... haha USPS decided they would rather break them :(

Well believe it or not, I was able to source a new JDM headlight lens in the US for the one that USPS broke. It was shipped today, so I thought I would go ahead and start on the non broken side. Enjoy the pics, I think it turned out great:

Cleaned the housing as good as it would get and removed all of the plastics and lights:
Image

Here is what the light looks like from the factory:
Image

Baked it in the oven for a bit and removed the outer lens. As you can see it is clear:
Image

A little more baking will allow you to remove the inner lenses and trim ring:
Image

Inner lenses removed:
Image

I'm not sure how other people do this set but I decided to paint the inside of the headlight housing black, since it will be visible now. I used to be the same color as the outside of the housing:
Image

Almost finished, just need to repaint the edges of the lens as most of the oem paint was flaked off:

Final Product after baking:

I just reused to OEM goop, it seems like it was in good shape and plenty of it left to use.

Hopefully it will start this week! Got the I/C piping back and installed, the wastegate is installed, downpipe installed, P/S lines ran, and res mounted. Still need to fab a throttle cable bracket.. but pretty much done engine wise!

Looks awesome!! The JDM lights really help the look of the car, amazing how that combined with fresh paint and other things how modern and classy the car still looks!

It would be ideal IMO to try and put those lenses on the stock USDM headlights, so the beam kick up is on the correct side.. I rode in a Q with JDM headlights and it just looks kinda weird, not undriveable but strange.. I bet you could use the adjustment to get it close to stock.

Well the scatter shield on the USDM headlights is built into the stock lens, and I removed the scater shields on the JDM ones, so aside from adjusting, the light output would be the same. Although the USDM's would look odd with these lenses because they are not 2 seperate pieces inside, It's one large one.

A projector retro might bein the future, depending on how the light output turns out.

this is shaping up to be my favorite q45. I love the 2jz. If this fits, I would think there is no question that an LS motor will go in. I kicked around the LS idea when one of my boy's dad Q died. We did some early measurements and thought it would go. Length wise the 2jz is longer than the LS, so the idea may be back on!

A LSX should fit easily. Do it!
