Hey guys I'm new to the site and a big fan of Nissan/Infiniti products after having traded my '04 Acura TL for an '07 G35x.

I don't know how many of you have fun occasionally trying to beat out cars at stop lights (its kind of hard not to with the G's throttle tip in) but I certainly do. The other day I was side by side with a Subaru WRX and I'm pretty sure it was an STI. This guy wanted it bad and when the light turned we took off about even but then I gained and when the lanes narrowed I took it. After having the car for a little over a year it's still astonishing how quick it is, especially considering I been in an STI while owning the TL and thinking it was the fastest car I experienced. Anyone else have similar stories at the lights?

The G35x is fast, however I work at Subaru and have test driven the STI. Anyone who is a good driver Should beat the G35x, the STI is a beast to drive. Are u shure it was A STI or a WRX Impreza.

I own a regular WRX. I can see a G35x beating a regular WRX, but not a STI. The STI is a track car; the G35x is for daily use.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find that your G is among the best cars available. You'll find several people where who enjoy racing their Gs at track events, quarter mile and road course. Most of us try to avoid the temptation to drive competitively on the street as it all too often ends tragically.

I don't know, it took off pretty quickly. The fact that the STI has pretty significant turbo lag is the only reason I think that that's what it could have been. In any event, the kid driving it was stunned to say the least.

The only thing I wish my G could have is a 6th gear for better fuel economy (mine is an auto, which I am happy about since I've heard complaints about the NVH with the manual). But I suppose you can't have everything.

Welcome to NICO!!! Only want to back up the wisdom of the few others who quickly did the for that bit of car racing. Having seen many a body in ER literally poured into the coffin following an accident from street racing, I always express shock at this behavior. Also, being an uncle to a very stupid, stupid, stupid nephew who 10 years ago killed a 3 year old on his tricycle while street racing, I can only CONDEMN the behavior.

Stay with us, laugh and join in on the wise cracks and very educational discussions.... but please don't speed race.

Soooo, WELCOME TO NICO once again!

Thank you. But believe me I don't street race; I've seen what it does too. It was just a little bit of acceleration from a light, probably only reaching speeds of 55 for a brief period.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you did not race a STI. My good friend has a STI and it is 100% quicker off the line vs the G35X.

STI does not have turbo lag.... it has insane torque..it keeps up with Gallardos...

G35x is quick...but not that quick lol.

all the mags have the sti running a 0-60 in 4.6-4.9 Sec. I've only heard the G35x running a 5.1-5.3. Its possible that they would over lap, but unlikely. my money is sadly, on the subie.

Ah but the 0-60 times obtained for the Subbie are made from high revs and clutch dumping, which the kid next to me did not due. With the G35x all they do is gas and go. Without dumping the clutch from high revs that would surely sacrifice some major time, especially on a turbo.

But once again, I don't know for sure.

ANyThing is better than street racing rite?---just b careful, some of those bmw drivers in the states have guns#%^#[no way!!!!] and pull it on u,,,, and we'll have a violent homicide shouting spree!!! then an innocent bystnder gets shot in the ***... and then ends up suing the city cuz of some sumatitan loophole, then this causes precedence and all of the USA loses the rite to bare arms,,shet!heaven forbid///&all this happened cuz someone spit at the other/// then of corse street racing can cause anything cuz u never know!!!anything can happen, and then one of the nico members post: this story; carnage/ homicide! innocent bystander gets Shot n the butt!!!! CUZ of street racing and forgets to mention that someone spit at the other and the guy was drunk, and drugs were involved, cuz the guy was a drug dealer, dammit america!!!!but we are the land of the free, and anything xan happen!!!!

I owned a 2006 STI and have driven a 2008 G35x and I know that what you raced was definitely not an STI. Even if the kid driving was in an STI and he gave you a 3 car length head start, he still would have caught and passed you. It had to be a WRX (stock), even a slightly modded WRX could easily beat a G35x. Sorry....

I am also new to this forum and live near Boston, too. Some thoughts on WRX vs G35. I had an 02 WRX modded to about 285 crank hp, but sold it to get my G.

Stock for stock a g35x should have the edge over a stock wrx off the line and will smoke it in the quarter mile, RWD g may take longer to catch up but will overtake both eventually. An STi will smoke any stock g35 off the line and quarter mile. However, given the fact that cheap horsepower mods are readily available to the WRX , I find it hard to believe that most have not been modded. Plus it is 400 lb lighter. I ususally do not mess with them because I know how fast my old WRX was.

That said, I could have saved money and bought an STi or Evo, or saved more and got a Mazdaspeed 3... etc, or better yet kept my WRX. But the G is a much nicer car and I have zero regrets.

I TRY to keep my racing at the track.

One thing to consider besides the whole street racing = bad line your going to get here is, street racing is not accurate. You may have beaten an STI that would have walked all over you at the track.

I've raced my G on the street only a few times. Beat a BMW 650CI and lost to a new Eclipse. I think I could have beaten the Eclipse at the track, but also suspect the Eclipse had a power adder of some kind because he could pull out and slowly pass me after the shift into 4th! I'll never know though because it was on the street. I also have no proof I can beat the 650CI, maybe I would have lost to him at the track?

When you race at the track you get a timeslip and if you bring a freind you get some video of the race! If a car beats you walk up to them in line for the next race. Odds are you can get a real good look at their mods and see why you lost.

I race at the track at least once a month, it keeps me close to the speed limit on the street. Its easier to let the car next to you at the light go when you've already beaten that make and model at the track.

This club is very hard on street racers but don't let it scare you away!

Jeff

yes, I think we have scared off a couple in the past, and that was not our intention. It was to hopefully enlighten them to the serious risks involved.

Jeff is right. The only place to truly know is at the track. On the street, the guy next to you might come to his senses and let up. Or, he may only be racing up to a certain speed.

I think the STi is one car that should never be bought used. I'm convinced that every owner has flogged the car mercilessly.

One of my best friend owns an STI. We play a lot. Switch cars pull etc. What we noticed is the STI faster almost every case not talking about driver error. Only time my X is faster when we start from icy road. I don't know why but the G grips better. Most likely because of the tires. To be honest he loves his car but when we go further then 30 minutes together he wants to ride the G. I don't blame him. The G is lot comfier then the STI. He is planning to sell his an buy an X.

As I always say. Speed is not everything. Sure it is good if you visit the track 2 times a month but for DD X would be a better option no matter what. But if I was 18 I would take the STI.

here is an article with some video how great the G is.

When my friends watched them he said the same.

They don't tape things like that too offen. That's why I was kind of surprised to see it. Especially from Edmunds.
