Hey red...it doesn't affect your mileage, it affects someones perception of thinking their gas tank is full. And it's a major pain when trying to fill your car and the pump shuts off every 2seconds

I am going out to check my oil for the 4th or 5th time since I bought it last year, 15,000 miles ago. The dipstick is horrible, the rubber grommet on it is ripped so at least it fits in better now. I put in synthetic myself 1,200 ago. I would thingk there would be a lot more posts if there were oil loss problems and motors dying all over the state/world.

As with many things 1 out of 500 or 1000 are just unlucky plus those that drive in a non standard manner.

We will have to wait until more mileage to see how many engines Nissan replaces whether 1,000 or 5,000...............in another 5 years we can evaluate properly............after all just an entry level near lux segment car.

One knows way before 6 year or 70k whether to push for warranty replacement and all you have to do is vist dealer every 90 days for documented oil changes............to build your documented case!

OK, first timer here so.... be gentle....

I currently drive an 02 RSX-S. (I know I know) but I've had my eye on a G35 for a while now cause they're pure sex.

I just started lookin at this site and lurking to find out anything I can about the G35 cause I would like to own one in a couple of years. (still paying for the RSX)

I was a tad bit alarmed by this thread because the one thing I dislike about my RSX is the oil consumption. I consume almost 2.5qts in just over 3000 miles. Dealer did a leakdown and my numbers are 10%, 5%, 10% and 5%. They said that if those 10%'s were 11% they could fix it under warranty... but until then I have to just keep an eye on the consumption levels.

This really makes me angry. After doing some reading, I'm not the only RSX owner to experience this... I just wondered if this is common on the G35 because my prelude consumed oil, my RSX does, and I'll be damned if my next car does too...

So just so you know, if you do consume, your not the only frustrated one and you're not alone.

Thanks in advance!

If I read you correctly BIgWill...sorry if I confused you... if the pump is constantly shutting off when you fill your car..it IS your car not the gas pump.

I had the valve replaced in my car (Schrader valve) now it seems to be fine.

So you're saying that there is a Schrader valve in the fill tube to the gas tank? Having the pump shut off prematurely seems to be a hit and miss thing... but I don't think I have ever seen the gas gauge needle all the way at the full mark since I have owned the car. I was chalking that up to the possibility that the needle was hitting its limit point on the gauge, and not being aligned quite right, not to the possibility that the tank was not filling all the way.

What did it cost you to have it replaced, or was it a warranty item?

Thanks for the info, Sean!

Oh, and "I gotta have more cowbell!!" LOLFunnys stuff!!

Thanks again Sean. I added an extended bumper to bumper when I bought mine last year, so I guess I will make an appointment with the dealer.

Oh, and what did I tell you about saying 'Yuppers'?

(Not a fan of "The Office"? bummer for you!!)

Funny you should say that. I was just looking at how many side conversations have taken place in this thread! Didn't this start out as a discussion about oil consumption? lol

Just for what it's worth... I have had no oil consuption issues in the year that I have had my '04 coupe, (approx. 45k miles). I have never had to add a drop of oil between changes... and I don't exactly drive it easy.

That's the problem [or solution] more than 98% of the owners have no problem with oil consumption.

I know I am about to confuse everyone right now but I was having this problem when I was filling up the other day. I got mad when after about 5 min of trying to get my tank filled I left and went home. I went to a gas station a little closer to my home and it filled up the rest of the way with out a problem. Then when I had to fill up again I figured I would go the the (1st) gas station again but use a different pump. Again the same problem. I went straight to the other gas station and, no problem filled right up. I have been going to this gas station ever since and no problem.I think it is the gas pump. I see a difference in the nosel in both stations and the one that doesn't work has the cover on the nosel that only shows about 2 inches of the the tip. the one that does work shows about 3 or 4 inches. I think that this has something to do with the pump clicking off early.

Not so much Sean... I have noticed the same thing with the station at which I fill up. I fill at the same Chevron station almost exclusively. There are a two pumps that consistently do this when I fill up. I have occasionally gone back to those pumps, just as a test, and each time they end up stopping early. I don't think that it is a 'Schrader Valve' issue. I could be wrong, but the only 'valve' in the tank fill tube is the flap at the top, and that moves out of the way as soon as you put the nozzle in the opening.

Dennis or Drew, please correct me if that statement is wrong.

But its a big problem for the people that have a dud engine.

I just don't understand in my case....how I had the issue, they replaced the engine and I' having the same problem with the new engine. If it was a known issue then I would think they would make sure the new engine has the problem fixed.

Read at another forum that Nissan Tech is saying that "Oil loss due to customer downshifting to slow vehicle down- compression built up during this is pushing oil past rings which is then being burnt off".

Intresting information. Are the oil consumption issues primarily limited to the 6 speed manual drivetrains? Does Anyone know?

well, that's interesting. i frequently downshift to slow down my car...and it doesn't use any oil ('06 automatic coupe).

I never downshift to slow down and mine burns over a quart per 1k miles.

Update in my case. The infiniti tech just called me, told me they have a new designed engine. So' i'm getting a replacment which should fix the issue. My car has 9000 miles and this will be my 3rd engine. Never imagined I would get new engine with every oil change.

Word is they are building a group of replacement engines with different piston rings to better capture the oil [oil scraper ring] for use by certain MT owners.

The automatic due to TC slip cannot generate the same or as fast peaking engine vacuum as a manual on a down shift.
