I was 15 once. Good times. lol

I would treat this car special and learn to drive it BEFORE you put any money into it. I went through 2 cars because I rushed into moding them without driver experience. My 3rd car was the one where i got my feet wet and now my 4th car is a s12 and I still don't think I'm ready for boost of anysort or engine building alone. However, in the two years I've been driving I've learned ALOT about mechanical work and driveing in many conditions. Take your time and do the same. It'll save you $$$ in the long run.

Also, I'd appologize to AZ before you lose your stay here. Regardless of what you think, you WILL need us.

To the OP: More reading, less posting.

Period.

You'll get your respect in due time. This is not the place for you to be making demands.

Right now, you're a kid who hasn't turned a wrench. Most of the posters in this thread have built at least one solid modified car, some of us many more. Posting up a fat list of "plans" when you don't have a license or a job is just plain silly.

I suggest reading most of http://www.240sxTech.com, all the stickies in the 240sx section, as well as those in the CA18 forum. There's some good info on suspension setups, and you definitely could use a trip to the Wheel/Tire forum if you think you're gonna do anything but hard parking or pick up groceries with SportMax's.

No more lipping off - If you're being mistreated, a moderator will handle it. That hasn't happened yet, so read, learn, and enjoy.

Thanks.
hey ehh AZ,sorry 'bout the responding post.got a little carried away and i'd like to apolagize for that.

SO.... I read through your thread, and your asking for advice. Sell your 240 because a bush guard should never even be thought of on a 240.

If you want a bush guard you should sell your 240 and buy one of these. BUSH GUARD INCLUDED.

Dude. you got a pretty nice car and all, but like everyone else said, when you ask for opinions, you don't have to be a d*ck about it when someone has an opinion you don't like. that is why you are getting flamed. i'm beinng serious here, just chill some and it'll be cool

180sx vsld sounds good. havnt heard or thought of that.

and just saying to those that are acting like they might have a few issues...the brush guard did not have any deep thought. it just came off the top of my head. just thinking of random unique stuff. i am sure some of you think of pointless crap like that every now and then.

Helical FTW. I may be going that route soon. Currently running a welded but want to taste the other end of the spectrum, so to speak. I miss canyon carving without worrying about my rear and front end being skittish.

You post on here just as much as anyone. Hell, I've got a wife and son along with a job where I am known to spend days, if not weeks or months away from home. What do you do? You're 15, think a brush guard would look cool on a 240, and go to high school. Hell, you haven't even got a job yet... Supposedly you have some job guaranteed cause you have a hook up, so why aren't you already working? Sounds like you're talking out your a** to me. Also, as far as your post about HELPING with engine work, my brother use to help my step-dad work on semis when he was 10, and he has also helped our step-brother pull multiple small block chevys. He really didn't learn anything about engine work, until he had to rebuild his ka himself though. It's different when you're doing it yourself or you're HELPING someone, so I have to agree with Greg when he said you'd barely worked on cars. Maybe you've HELPED a lot, but it doesn't mean s*** until you're working on one yourself.

if you do a motor swap in the future you are going to be lucky to have room for a bumper core support much less room on the outside for a brush guard, just scrap the idea entirely.

not to mention it would have to be something custom-fabbed up and you'd look worse than a Craftsman Tractor.

i still don't understand the whole not wanting the 300zx diff but ok...A differential meant to handle much more power stock-for-stock than any 180sx but ok...whatever your friends know best, right? not to mention the gearing could potentially be better for the application.

In regards to the Differential: Research the gear ratios and how they would apply to what you want to build your car for. Don't put s*** in because your friends say its cool; do it because it will have a positive affect on performance in the aspect for which you are building your car. (i.e. drag, time attack, auto cross, etc.)

well i mean not neccesarly. i mean if you have one and you drift and you are satisfied with yours and you have zero problems and have heard of zero problems then i may look into it.

so for the "gear ratios" , what would be the best for daily driving but with very affective drifting??

Hm, here is a good time to test your math skills.

Read up on what a differential's gear ratio will do to affect engine RPM as well as Speed (MPH) and determine what you think would be appropriate.

I.E. If you are in 5th gear and @ 3000 RPMs @ 70MPH on the High way you have an X.XX gear ratio, and you could either get a higher or lower ratio depending on how you want your acceleration curve.

http://www.240edge.com/perform....html

This would be the first step, then plan accordingly. You won't need to focus as strongly on the gear ratio for drifting, more-so for driving on the street and high way driving because that is going to affect your engine RPMs depending on your speed for daily driving.
