I'm sure it does, all it needs to do is heat the filament, probably starts sparking after a while I imagine though

Exactly, I used the word venacular because that WAS their standard 'daily used' language in the book :) I typically think of venacular in a more regional sense and dialect would have been correct as well, but I did not use it incorrectly. Perhaps I did use it in an unusual way though.

yeah, the base of the bulb sparks a little against the floor.

actually, you can put aluminum foil in the microwave as long as it doesnt touch the inside [floor ceiling sides] and there are no edges. rules out most use of aluminum foil, so its just not done.

also, the foil will absorb the electromagnetic waves, so even if you wrap something up good and dont have edges, and dont touch the sides, the food still wont heat up.

It's cool, I would probably have said the same thing if the tables were turned...little secret though, I looked up all the definitions of it before I used it in that post just so I knew I wouldn't be wrong, just weird ;)

Wow, we are grammar geeks...I hit up dictionary.com before I posted it so I could feel comfortable that I wasn't making any mistakes. This is what I went off of: "The standard native language of a country or locality." Which certainly applies to the characters in Pride and Predjudice. However, I do see how this: "as distinguished from the literary language" muddies the waters a bit. I used it because I feel that the dialogue in the book is similar enough to the educated people's language of the time that it was distinguishable from the literary language and fell into the everyday language category. Man, I am a geek...I'm going to go talk about cars now :D

ha. I guess you were one of those kids that paid attention in english class too huh?

I had never heard vernacular used to describe.. how to explain.. "their vernacular" I had only heard vernacular used in reference to the current day..

I have to concede that you used the word correctly, just in a way i've never seen.
