The information amazes me. I'm really glad I started researching this stuff.

The only real problem, and I wish I had seen this sooner because I've created a monster, is the "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" issue with them. Example:

I gave one of his books to my girlfriend, because she's been trying to eat better and "trim up" as the girls say. Good, right? The problem is, that now instead of just skipping the ice cream, she read that Bryers Natural is on the good side and doesn't think big picture.

I'm not one of those (no offense to the GF). I have really done some pantry control lately. No drinks with sugar, no white breads (not much to start with), no desserts unless a special occasion, less meat, more veggies and fresh fruit. I know they are baby steps, but I can already tell a difference in how I feel. Also walking a mile every day, soon to be bumped up to two.

No offense taken. White breads are the devil!

< I eat whatever. High metabolism FTW!

...but I do body weight exercises (chin-ups, crunches, push-ups, dips, handstand push-ups, ect.) and run a couple miles with my dog.

thats about it for my exercising. I dont wanna look like a meat head. I just like to add some muscle onto my naturally skinny body. lol

Had to cut my hamstring/lowback (still no calfs due to tendinitis in my Achilles) workout real short on sun. (stopped after 2 sets of leg curls and 1 set of deadlifts) after aggravating my knee on Sat. during my 3 mile run with hill sprints(on the road, so not so good on the knees). Today I was able to get in a 10 mile bike ride, 3 sets of squats, and 2 sets of leg press before my knee bothered me. Still cut the workout way short, but at least I was able to do something.

Maybe in a month I'll be able to get in my full weight lifting workout along with my full cardio workout. Still am unable to do either

I disagree, fried food is! Oh, and doughnuts...which are also fried, but not thought of as your typical salty fried food. I love them so much. White bread I don't even think about.

Along with white bread, are white tortilla's. When going out, ask for corn tortilla's.

When going out ask for no tortillas. Flour is bad and IMO corn isn't justifiably better.

It's a mexican place, so you know it's going to be unhealthy. Besides, eating a taco without a shell, isn't fun.

I just spent 3 days in Mexico(as I do at least once a month) and managed to eat "somewhat" healthy. I'm sure chorizo is terrible for you but I figured it can't be any worse then bacon. :gotme

Thought I'd bump this up in case anyone is still on the "path to wellness". Just got back from the doctor today. I have lost four pounds and my hormone level is dropping. We have been eating a lot better, as a whole, and walking on a relatively consistent basis. We've bumped up the route from 1 mile to almost 2 and I have decided to start swimming a few laps each day while the kids are in school. If I can get rid of 6 more pounds, I will be happier than you can possibly imagine. As an alternative, if I could rearrange it and just put it where I want it, I'd keep it all. :gapteeth:

10.31 mile bike ride today. Found a new skatepark, so thats tomorrow's activity.
Haven't weighed myself in a while but I'm still tone-ish. I don't do much weight lifting in summer because there are so many more activities to take advantage of while the weather is good.

However, I do get a massive quad workout having to dead lift and then hold up my sailboat while pushing it like a wheel barrow out of the water, uphill, to its parking spot in the path.
Translation- its a b****. Much like pushing that rack of pads at football practice, except add that I'm holding up ~75% of the weight of the boat at the same time. I'd guesstimate the weight that I'm supporting at a little shy of 200lbs. Granted, I only do it once, and I'm getting good at it; but its still a helluva workout.

Yup. Any salad slathered in a dressing probably made with partially hydrogenated oil, and topped with enriched bleached flour croutons (most likely also with partially hydrogenated oil), is going to be among the worst things on the menu.

Bumped for the holidays. Post Thanksgiving report:
<----- will be eating salads and going to the gym daily until Christmas dinner. Why the hell do I like food so much? Thank God for the little bit of metabolism I have left or I'd be as big as a house. :squint:

Still maintaining. Ski season is upon me and I'm headed to Colorado this weekend for the first trip of the season!!!
Cardio, quads, squats, toe pushes, lunges and carbo loading have been the past 2 weeks regiment. I don't normally work this much on my legs (aside from running, biking and skateboarding) but I don't give out or give up on the slopes.

On a seperate note- the worst time of the year is coming up. A super busy gym full of people who will break their resolutions to lose weight after a month of "its to harrrrrrd" crap. Whiney bishez. Suck it up, nothing worth having comes easy.

i'm just not willing to put myself at such high risk of major injury, i'm enjoying being fit too much right meow :mike

i do 'preciate the offer though homes, we should def have some winter shens of some sort!

Ill participate, Was doing MAX OT training for the last 2 years went really well and i gained a lot of strength and mass. Went for 175 to 205 in about a year. I got a lot stronger but didn't get as cut as i would like to be. So I moved from sets of 4-6 max failure at 6th rep, to sets of 10.

Had to go down in weight to get to 1- reps but i have been getting between 8 and 10 usually with my regular weight. Today was Chest and Abs

Flat dumbell press 90lbs dumbells: Did 3 sets of 8
Incline dumbell press 80lbs: got 3 sets of 7
Incline dumbell fly 45lbs:3 sets of 10
flat dumbell fly 45lbs: 3 sets of 8
Weighted dips 25lb dumbell around my ankels: 3 sets of 8

ABS
Cable crunch: 3 sets of 12
weighted decline sit up 35lbb dumbbell on chest: 3 sets of 10
weighted leg lifts 25lb dumbbell on ankles: 3 sets of 15

For those who want to know the MAX OT training routine is great for bulking and building mass in a short amount of time. It uses compound movements with heavy sets using 4-6 reps. Failure should happen on the 6th rep,if it doesn't tome to up the weight. Though you build good clean muscle you don't get really lean and cut. My solution to this is doing the same kinda workouts and upping the failure rep to 10 and try to get between 8-10 reps it has been working great so far.

I figured I would revive this thread because now that spring is afoot, people are trying to shed those extra pounds for summer/bathing suits/events, etc. I'm finding myself a little "fluffy", so I'm trying something new.

Don't judge me, but I embarked on something relatively "gimmicky" today.

I picked up two DVD's:

I'll be doing the 30 Day Shred first, then taking on the 6 Week Six-Pack.

About a week ago, my girlfriend wanted to try out the 30 Day Shred, so I went over her house and we did the first day together. I was sweaty and slightly out of breath when we were finished, but didn't think much of it. The next day (and for FIVE days after) my lower half was completely sore. My arms and chest were sore as well, but not as much (I suspect because I skipped the free weights part of this program) Holy crap. I had no idea it would affect my body so profoundly. I was walking down stairs like I was straddling a barrel kind of sore.

So I figured, why the heck not. I took down my measurements, by a suggestion, and completed my first circuit today. I will be doing this everyday (following all directions, including free weights, no shortcuts!), and adding in additional cardio (jogging) about 3-4 times a week. I am also reducing my calorie intake to 1280/day. I know there's a debate about counting calories, but (with the help of an app on my phone) it REALLY has made me super aware of the crap I mindlessly shove in my mouth throughout the day. I feel better, and it's only been a week of logging the food I eat everyday and making much better decisions. I HIGHLY recommend it, super user friendly: MyFitnessPal. You can find it in your App Market.

ANYWAY. Here are my measurements on Day One. After 30 days, I'll post them again.

Thickest part of the upper arm: 11''
Thickest part of the thigh: 21''
Upper Waist (smallest part): 27''
Lower Waist (belly button): 31''
Hips (widest part): 34''
Weight: 127
Height: 5'4''

I doubt my height will change :chuckle: and I don't expect to lose much weight either, as this program is supposed to build muscle, but we'll see!

Anyone else taking on any new programs/workouts?
