hey i usually dont post in the newb threads. but there is a lot of wrong direction here i think. ok so you traded your altima for this 240.. glad to see you joined the club. although your other car was probably worth more. oh well i have made mistakes similar to that. so if your not worried about the body and you want to make it run forever. do regular maintenance and in my opinion change the timing guide. when they break it slips time and puts the valves into the pistons. just save yourself and do that so you dont get completely F'd. ebay parts arent usually that bad. i have spent thousands on ebay. but there is a lot of "rice" on ebay. like the aftermarket headlights and taillights. most of them are garbage and you shouldnt waste your money on those. but your strut bars wouldnt be bad. i mean you dont NEED them and you should focus the money into other things like the struts, kyb gr2's are decent and cheap.. since you dont have a lot of money you say.. just my input and i hope you like the car cause in the end thats what matters. good luck and welcome

didn't i see this on the fail thread a long time ago, where it was flammed? hopefully its a clean body, and you can sell it to someone with a Probe or something. IDK man its hideous as it is now maybe you can turn it into a HP monster and fly down the strip a couple times and see how good that kit stays on.

I think we are going to have to pull from a hat. Unless you guys make up a duet like Sonny and Cher and then you could branch off and still fail miserably although one will be in Vegas so i guess rice can get you some where.

Yours wasnt half bad, if you drifted ur car or did 100mph plus runs regularly it is justified. The painted wheels just look like you went through a field of Zombie Strawberries.

The sacrilege this guy bought.....is beyond any ricey wing and stock wheels will ever go. Ever!

thanks. alright guys i GET it its ugly in ur regards and im kinda starting to lean that way. it is a bit too much. but right now i cant dish out hte money to fix it. so its gonna stay that way. until prolly august when i have time and some money saved up for major renovation.

so moving on, i have a few things that i know need to be fixed with this car and some things that is kinda off but i dont know what is causing it. hopefully someone will help me diagnose it.

1. to start it off, there's a hole in the coolant reservoir tank, i dont think its a big problem. do you guys think i should get a replacement or mayb an upgrade (aluminum overflow tank anyone?)

2. the coolant is like BROWN. wtf. havent seen that before, but of course there are many things that i havent seen. kinda opening my eyes a bit at a time. i gotta get that flushed. but im waiting to decide whether i should get a replacement overflow tank and then do it. or do it afterwards, which i think is stupid since i gotta somehow stop coolant from flowing.

3. the hood isnt staying up, no strut or the oem bar or what not, i will likely get a set of ebay struts. problem is... the hood feels kinda light. and it definitely does not feel like CF. Just looks like soeone gutted the support beams and the heat shield to put in the scoop. i hope its OEM cuz supposedly the ebay ones only support OEM hoods. ??

4. something is like shrieking when i start up the car. sounds like the accessories belt which i will have to replace. anything else i should replace with it?

5. intermitten windshield wiper not working. but fullspeed and the other continuous one (half speed) is. hopefully its a blown fuse somewhere. working on that now.

6. driver side automatic seatbelt motor is jockying around. gonna look at that next. my EE courses are coming in handy. zer...77789#

7. suspension is awfully springy. prolly busted shocks are someone suggested. read a bit more about godspeed and agx and gr2. seems like agx is a pretty good choice if im not using OEM springs. which i am not, they are sportline from eibach. as for godspeed, ppl seem to hate it or like it. whats the final verdict? and is coilover necessary if i only plan on driving on the street and hopefully sometime in the future on the track but mainly for DDing.

8. exhaust is disgustingly loud. from the inside at least. sounds like it gets louder when i let off the gas. maybe a leak?

I think tahts all i can recall in one sitting. please gimme some advice. THANKS!!

The hole in the coolant tank is proof that its an authentic S13.All of them have that whole and it develops in almost the exact same fashion on every single one. Buy an aluminium one if you have loose cash.Or Use some tape and seal that b**** up. Dont spend money on trivial things when you need to be saving up for a circular saw to cut the car free from the body kit.

The brown coolant is probably dirt that entered from the hole in the tank. When you seal the tank flush the system as well.

Then start project De-Rice, once the car is de-riced you can start the serious work.Good luck.

haha. i guess i will get the aluminum tank. they should hopefully last longer. i saw somewhere where someone went thru like 3 OEM ones. haha.

de-ricing will take time. i drive it everyday now. i rather keep it in one piece for another month. THEN the hacking will begin. i promise!

but for now, you gotta drive that thing into a wall (slowly, so you can still drive it around)

i fixed the wiper problem. anyone else that's also having intermittent wiper function not working for 1990 240sx check your wiper amplifier thingy. its the green box, on the driver side, under the hood, behind the wheel well. I found out that it wasnt connected properly. easy fix. Looked like even if i disconnected the thing, the full speed and half speed would work. BUT it would not park the wipers correctly and intermittent wipers wont work. next task. automatic seatbelt.

i also found a new thing about hte engine. sounds like i got a lifter tick. something is definitely ticking from idle onwards. also hear a "marble rolling in a can" i think someone on nico pointed out that it might b the timing guides. time to get that fixed along with a new chain.

I think that since you 'kind of' like the bodykit and despite what everyone says keeping it, you should buy a nice set of wheels with good offsets (17 inches at the min) and some coilovers.ANY bodykit except oem aero looks like crap with stock wheels

Also, if you want to save some money on the coolant overflow tank and have it still look good...you should get an s14 tank. It is super slim so its easy to hide near the fender.Cheap and clean

ahhhh. that advice would've came in handy last night around 11ish. before i put in the order for the aluminum. o well. thanks anyways.

as for the seatbelt, i think the previous owner hacked it. LOL. the wiring. i gotta figure that out myself and see what he hacked. the reason taht he hacked it is because it wasnt working in the first place or something. ill take a look and tackle it myself today. see how far i can get. but keep the suggestions coming. i got heaps more to do.

coilovers vs struts/spring combo. i got the springs already. do coilovers offer that much advantage. i mean i like the adjustments but will i really b needing them? and when i say coilover i mean something cheap like godspeed. no TEIN or JIC, ill thinking about megan, still kinda expensive.

i was thining mayb i can get away with kyb gr2s. but i heard those arent too good with lowering springs. then there's the agx which are better. but then i get in the price range for the godspeeds.

honestly just go buy a civic...Why don't you read and learn instead of askin stupid questions. I usually dont post negative comments but you are really asking for it. Are you going to color match your engine bay too? That would be uber kewl yo.

The Coolant over flow can pretty much be made with any plastic bottle and a 80cent nozzle.

Just dump out your rusted a** coolant and put new coolant in, If the brown color bothers you.

Just get a hood off another S13. Part outs are everywhere.
stealthy_240 wrote:4. something is like shrieking when i start up the car. sounds like the accessories belt which i will have to replace. anything else i should replace with it?
Replace them all, belts are easy and when you tighten them just make sure they have about 1/4 inch play when you push on them. If they don't have any play they are to tight, to loose the don't do their job.
stealthy_240 wrote:5. intermitten windshield wiper not working. but fullspeed and the other continuous one (half speed) is. hopefully its a blown fuse somewhere. working on that now.
Yeah wipers aren't hard to replace.
stealthy_240 wrote:6. driver side automatic seatbelt motor is jockying around. gonna look at that next. my EE courses are coming in handy.
I would suggest either taking your seatbelt to a dealer and have them fix it, make sure you have an owners manual when you do, Its normally a battle to get them to fix the seatbelt for free. Or switch to s14 or 200sx manual seatbelts.

Don't make your car unstreetable, it gets old fast. Stock replacement or new shocks and lowering springs. less than $500.

Could be, JB weld the bish if you don't want to replace it.

S13 are so easy to work on. Enjoy. And taking off that body work is gonna be a pain, you will know why people hate molded kits. Mold kits usually drop the worth of a car, because they can crack just from daily use and look s***ty.

I love teardrop wheels, mine are 215, which is a good stock width. Wanna send me your center caps?lol

ur trying to solve all my problems? haha. thanks for all the tips. i ordered the struts already. keeping the hood for now. ordered aluminum overflow tank already. so gonna put that in when i do a fluid flush. fixed intermitten wipers already, loose plug. gonna replace the accesories belt. exhaust seems to sound not as loud since i plugged hte hole leading into the AIV resonator (with a paper towel). as for suspension, coilovers make the car unstreetable?
