im not trying to convince you to get something you dont want but if you think the miata is unsafe look at this link
http://www.bethania-garage.com/testimonials.htm

ive been thru 5 miatas so far and im looking for #6 now. one of my friends was just t-boned in his miata the other day with no roll bar and was hit by a big SUV and all it did was some body damage. any car can be totaled in an accident and its usually the smallest of accidents that have the greatest impact on its occupants

and someone said something about seeing a lotus next to a miata.

good luck in finding what you do want..just buy something you want, not what others say you should want

thanks for the extra opinions.
still having some issues choosing.
I found the perfect SRT-4 and it slipped right under my nose, so I am kind of bummed about that.
i think i am scratching getting a new car and will concentrate on something used.

Used is better to me. I've bought 2 new cars and doubt I'll ever buy another. Just too much money to loose in depreciation so quickly and you can get a 'better' car for less money. I'd never afford a G new, but used was perfect.

Last I checked, ELoan (and possibly Capital One Auto Finance) will cut a check for anything, no age restrictions.

You can also take out a Prosper loan.

There isn't a lot of snow in MD, certainly not enough to base one's car buying decisions off winter driving. We get like 0-3 snow days a year on average. Just use vacation days and stay home :-P

bang for the buck it's pretty hard to be a '03-04 Mustang Mach 1 or a C5 Vette.

the Mach 1's can be found under 15

with will give you low 13 sec quarter times and handle in a competent manner.

I almost wanna give the Mach 1 an edge because damnit, in blue and yellow they're just good looking cars.

Sure, you can get cars like an SRT-4, Mach 1, etc.... for dirt cheap, but why would you want that domestic garbage if you're gonna keep the car? I wouldn't want to be anywhere NEAR those two after 100K miles. Sure, parts are dirt cheap, but when you're replacing damn near everything, what's the point????

As stated earlier, a daily driven track car is a dumb idea in the first place if you're tracking it often.

Meh, a modern day Nissan rots away like most domestics.

My friend's 2002 Altima was discarded for two grand after the engine took a s***, after just about damn near everything else went wrong.

the mod motor in the Mach 1 in detuned form has seen a lot of examples with well over 200k and 300k on the clock in Lincolns and other livery cars.

the 350Z's fit and finish as well as the interior in the Vette is still pretty damn crappy.

Oh, I have no doubt about the motor, that's definitely the most sound part about the car.

I'm talking about the suspension, body, interior. I've heard horror stories about 4th gen mustangs.

Agree, I don't think her intention is to find a track car as a DD, but rather a DD that's sportier than what she drives now that would be fun to use on an occasional track day.

An SRT-4 fits that requirement, and she knows someone that has owns and likes theirs. The issue she has to weigh is the expected lower reliability of an SRT-4 versus the performance increase she'd get over her current ride.

the new SN95 cars have come down considerably in price. It's a buyer's market right now really.

That's ALMOST as bad as the EP3...and that's pretty terrible.

oh HELL no.

when it was new, for the price, even with the weak K series the EP was the most well rounded car in the hot hatch circle.

a Cooper S, sure, it's quicker, but new it was about 5k more expensive.

The EP is a fantastic car all things considered. It never got the love over here because of the drivetrain (while still competent and very fun to drive, wasn't the Type R or RSX-S)

it proves the Brits can build excellent cars if someone's watching what they're up to.

Perhaps a preemptive printing for when he gets thrown behind bars for something creeper related. It will say "free nala" and have a pic of him behind bars?
