Didn't get a chance to read all the craziness, but used 350z/G35 Coupe seems like a good option. Should be able to find one well under $10k now.

if a miata is too small, a lotus isn't any better. you'll be sitting lower in a lotus which would be scarier on highways. besides, everything i've read about lotuses says they aren't the most comfy rides in the world.

It is hard to take a thread that starts with "I want the fastest car for the cheapest money" and ends with "I think a new altima is a good choice" seriously... this is so a** backwards its ridiculous.

It is the internet. You may be a cute girl, but that will only save you from criticism for so long.
It sounds like you want a nice safe new car with decent performance that you can play with at the track... and that is pretty f**king far from cheapest performance, which is basically old, small dangerous. When you post up the opposite of what your looking for then have a problem with all the right suggestions for your question what do you expect?

It was a LR caliper but I let one of my friends do the pads one time for $ and exp, but he squeezed the hell out of it with a C-clamp and binded the threads internally. He loses and that peed me off. I agree that MD inspection is a scam. Isnt it only 1 inspection forever? They'll fail you for a slightly cracked belt...

If the minor criticism in this thread is "too much", then please, for the love of all that is holy and sacred, do NOT go to an HPDE event. Instructors aren't terribly concerned about your feelings or making you feel 'welcome'. They're there to make you a better driver, and make sure you don't kill yourself (or other drivers).

Stace, I know you're not thin-skinned, so take the good with the bad - RC and UGOT have given some of the best advice in the thread. Delivery notwithstanding, they're right.

I think you'll feel like a fish outta water with the C5. I would have, except it reminded me of my first car... Hope you find what makes you all tingly and happy. ;)

Yeaaap, something about an altima priced over 30k didn't really appeal to peoples.

Some of them go for ridiculous prices now, my friend got his with 25k miles for about 11k.

I didn't think of that. A Lotus is pretty tiny. Wish I could do a literal side by side comparison.

scared of the price parts are on used euro cars.... :(
I would love an M6 but cant afford it. and not really practical if i want to take it to the track.
I have a dilemma between used, can beat up at the track and have awesome performance
and
new, because it looks and feels good, but wouldnt want to tear it up at the track.
this is hard.

Stace, the Elise and Miata are more different than alike. I would recommend a Miata as a DD, but not an Elise/Exige. In terms of size the Elise is smaller than a Miata: 6" shorter, 4' lower, 400 lbs lighter, but the same width.

I know several Elise/Exige owners, and NONE of them use their Loti as DD's. If you plan more track days than street days, and want a great turnkey track car, and can fit in it, the Elise is an excellent choice. But if you plan mostly street miles and an occasional track event, the Miata is far more comfortable, more practical, more reliable, and considerably less expensive than an Elise.

I have 2 suggestions, you can take them or leave them , doesn't matter.

The bug eyed Impreza STi's can be had for fairly cheap, even the modded ones, because all the STi guys are trying to get into newer models or go to the next level. Their solid reliable cars and will be competitive even in stock form with some minor changes (tires and minor weight loss).

Porsche Boxsters are entry level Porsche's so they can be had for reasonable prices, their owners usually take good care of them because they are a Porsche, and they have been known to be exceptional in the Auto X and Gymkhana track days.

My only other suggestive would be an E36 or maybe even an E46 3 series BMW, there are a ton of them out there in the < 20-30 K range and they are stylish and with some minor bolt ons can be wicked quick.

There is a difference between a quick car and a fast car. Fast cars are for drag racing and time attacks, quick cars are for technical circuits and courses. You can have a car that will get crushed on the 1/4 mile but dominate on a Auto X or Gymkhanna circuit.

False. Look at the cars that make up F Stock, E Street Prepared and C Prepared.

Even just looking at the thread title, without reading the first post, a Crown Vic would be the last thing I suggest. They're not fast, they're heavy, and they're huge.

Yeah, can they? Bugeye STis? Fairly cheap? Yeah, can they?

You're describing a Miata. She rejected a Miata because she doesn't want to get squished. Interestingly enough, the Elise was ok. That math don't work!
